D.O.C.
Time for another edition of the "Lost" Diary.
While we were watching "Lost" last week, Ari joked that when Charlie "died," all the Diary readers were probably thinking of me. And, lo and behold, I got several comments last week like this one: "Man when I saw the arrow go in Charlie's neck I was saying to myself Daniel is going to so love this." Or this one: "The first thing I thought of when Charlie was shot in the neck was 'Daniel is going to be so happy.' "
You guys are the best, really. And the offer still stands: When Charlie really does die, party at my house.
For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes. I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. We got the OG crew back together this week: Ari, Lauren, April and Matt. Let's roll:

10:00 -- We're all curious about what's going to happen with Sun's pregnancy. Who is the dad? Will the Others want her or her child? Will she survive the pregnancy? Now Jack is curious too. A little too curious, maybe?

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes. I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. We got the OG crew back together this week: Ari, Lauren, April and Matt. Let's roll:

10:00 -- We're all curious about what's going to happen with Sun's pregnancy. Who is the dad? Will the Others want her or her child? Will she survive the pregnancy? Now Jack is curious too. A little too curious, maybe?
10:02 -- It's Sun flashback time and we've jumped back to when Jin and Sun first got married. I like that the flashbacks lately aren't completely linear.
10:03 -- Some of you may remember that I always make fun of Jin/Sun flashbacks because they use the words "honor" and "shame" in nearly every scene. The fact that Jin's mom is a prostitute will apparently bring shame to Mr. and Mrs. Kwon. From now on, whenever the words "honor" or "shame" are used, you have to drink.
10:04 -- I love Desmond as much as the next guy, but I think he's better in small doses. Am I wrong here?
10:05 -- "Oops." -- Hurley.
10:09 -- Nothing really interesting going on yet with Sun and Jin, except that after nearly three years of "Lost" I now am 100% certain which is Sun and which is Jin. I used to get it backwards every now and again, but I am good now.
10:10 -- Yup, Sun is suspicious of Jack. I don't know why it's weird when a doctor asks a pregnant woman how she's doing, but it just is.
10:11 -- Sun confronts Juliet about her "research" and Juliet acts like she didn't know Sun was pregnant. Riiiiiiiight.
10:12 -- "They die. They all die." -- Juliet. Glad you asked, Sun?
10:13 -- The crew of Desmond, Charlie, Jin and Hurley is really starting to bore me.
10:14 -- But then Mikhail comes running out of the woods. Which wouldn't be weird except for the fact THAT HE DIED!!!
10:17 -- Jin serves Mikhail up a nice helping of Korean whoop ass.
10:18 -- "As your friend pointed out, I already died once this week." -- Mikhail. Fair point.

10:19 -- Desmond takes Mikhail up on his offer to save the parachutist. Given the circumstances, I'd say it's the right call. Though I'd like to point out again, MIKHAIL DIED ALREADY!!!
10:20 -- Sun found Jin's dad and asks him why he wasn't at their wedding.
10:21 -- Drink.
10:22 -- What are the odds that the blackmailer is Jin's mom?
10:23 -- Drink.
10:24 -- Juliet wants to take Sun somewhere, just the two of them, to answer Sun's questions about the Others. Here's my question: has it been a week since Ben told Juliet he'd see her in a week? Cause if so, say 안녕 to Sun. (Yes, I looked up how to say "goodbye" in Korean.)
10:28 -- Sun is hesitant to tell Juliet when the last time she had sex with Jin was. The paternity of Sun's baby is "Lost's" version of the Anna Nicole Smith saga.
10:29 -- Sun is asking her dad for the money to pay off the blackmailer. This scene is almost over and no one said ...
10:30 -- Drink.
10:31 -- Interesting turn -- Jin began his career of "working" for Sun's dad because of this whole affair. There are always consequences.
10:32 -- After Mikhail saved her life, parachute girl muttered something in Portuguese. Mikhail says she said, "Thank you for saving my life," but I don't buy it for a second. Some Internet research will be required. (Apparently she said, "I am not alone.")
10:33 -- Juliet has taken Sun to the creepy hatch. This is definitely the last place a pregnant woman should be hanging out.
10:34 -- Juliet just gave Sun some bullshit speech about wanting to give good news again and Sun tells Juliet about her affair with Jae.
10:36 -- Man, that's a lot of security for a nursery.
10:41 -- "On this island, the wounds are a bit different." -- Mikhail. Understatement.
10:42 -- "Phone!" -- Jin. His english is really getting good.
10:43 -- There is no doubt that Desmond is making the wrong choice in letting Mikhail go, but at the same time I respect the fact that he did. He gave his word and, even on the island and even when the Others are involved, that has to mean something.
10:44 -- Juliet has great bedside manner, you know, for a lying bitch.

10:45 -- Ok, so I wonder: Assuming Ben and the Others are after Sun's baby, does finding out where she conceived change what they do? Do they want her either way or only if the result is one way? And if it's the latter, I think they want someone who conceived off the island -- isn't that what Juliet said a few weeks back?
10:46 -- "I don't want to be in your father's debt anymore than we already are." -- Jin. Brutha, you don't know the half.
10:48 -- Alright, daddy sweepstakes time is almost upon us. I am saying that Sun got pregnant off the island and thus, Jae is the father.
10:49 -- Sweet moment as Sun sees her baby for the first (and only?) time. Man, they are setting this up to end soooooo badly for her.
10:50 -- And Sun got pregnant on the island. So I lose, Jin wins and Sun dies. So if Sun is Anna, that makes Jin Larry Birkhead, Jae Howard K. Stern and Juliet as Judge Seidlin.
10:53 -- Sun goes to meet the blackmailer. I am loving my call that she's really Jin's mom. Not a tough call by any means, but I need to get one prediction right.
10:54 -- Sweet! I'll take any victory I can get. Lauren has proclaimed that Sun is her new Korean idol.
10:55 -- According to Juliet, Sun doesn't have much time and she has no chance of even giving birth. Damn. Is abortion not an option?
10:56 -- Juliet is going back inside the hatch for some reason. Hmm, that doesn't sound suspicious at all ...
10:57 -- Sun should lock Juliet in the hatch. That would be awesome.
10:58 -- Juliet is leaving Ben a message. Apparently her assignment was to find if the women on the island were pregnant -- or at the least the one's who aren't just milling around in the background.
10:59 -- "Flight 815, they found the plane. There were no survivors. They were all dead." -- parachute girl.
11:00 -- "What?" -- Hurley.

Sometimes I think I am too hard on an episode, other times I think I am too easy. This might be a week that I am too easy.
We got a few answers tonight (the paternity of Sun's baby, more info on Juliet's "mission") and got hit with a few more questions, too (Mikhail is alive? Everyone on Flight 815 died?). It was a good mix of give and take and the flashback had just enough information to keep me interested the whole way through. Add it all up, and the episode gets a B from me. Not bad considering it didn't have Locke or Henry Gale in it.
One of the first "Lost" theories about the show to become popular was that the Losties didn't survive the plane crash and they were all in purgatory -- producers quickly said this was not the case. The ending of tonight's episode sure lends credence to that old theory.
Assuming they aren't all in purgatory, and assuming this woman isn't lying (after all, she was looking for Desmond) here is a quick theory that will no doubt be proven wrong: Once the plane crashed on the island, Henry Gale called back to the Hanso/Dharma people to tell them what happened. The powers that be decided they couldn't have rescue teams come looking for the plane because they might find the island. So they somehow staged a fake crash site to keep people from looking. Could be, right?
So I am going to continue the theme of "community" that we have here at the "Lost" Diary with my question to you this week: Obviously we're all "Lost" fans here (except the guy who posts under the name No Longer A Lost Fan), but is "Lost" your favorite show? If not, what is? Catch you next week.
Comments
I think your grade is fair. But I was tainted and I knew what the big "WHAT?" moment was going to be, so it is hard for me to judge accurately. I am hereby pledging to go spoiler-free for the remaining eps as to make it more fun and to raise the anticipation level.
Lost has resumed its spot as my favorite show, but for a while there it lost it's place to Battlestar Galactica and/or Jericho. But if I was forced to choose only one of these to watch, right now it would be Lost.
Posted by: michy | April 26, 2007 03:42 PM
Lost is in my top three favorite show's. Heros and Jericho are the other two.
"Oops." -- Hurley. Had to be the best line of the night.
I never bought the purgatory theory until last nights show.

Love this blog! And I think in general you are too hard on the grading scale - but the reviews are great.
Thanks for the "I am not alone" insight, I knew Mikh was lying - just didn't know what the truth was (who would trust a dead guy).
Not every week, but it seems lately they have been showing last weeks ep before the new one at 10:00 - I hope they keep this up (it helps to see each ep twice, and if you miss one - score!).
Right now, Lost has to be No.1 on my list (24 is close, as were Prison Break and BSG before hiatus). Heroes should be heating up again.
What ever happened to starting the new seasons in September and running 24 - 26 consecutive weeks? I know its hard on the writers/cast/producers - but it is killing their audience.

You left out how Juliet said, "I hate you." to Henry Gale. That was a telling moment! Don't you think that Juliet is good, but working for the bad side--like Sayid was as a torchurer? Also, I notice that you don't comment on the teasers for the following week, but HOLY COW! Locke kidnaps Henry Gale and wants him dead?! I can't wait for that episode.
P.S. Lost is definitely my favorite show that isn't British.

Lost is one of my favorite shows on TV. I look forward to Wednesday nights. I also love Rescue Me, The Shield, and Nip/Tuck on FX. I have watched all of the original Star Trek series and each of its spin-offs (except the last, it was so not Star Trek), and all of the movies, so I guess you can say I am kind of a sci/fi fan.
This episode of Lost was pretty good, except I missed Sawyer. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Sun would go anywhere alone, with no one else knowing, wity Juliet. Bad move. And I don't care if they showed us at the end that Juliet is basically being forced to be bad, she is still bad. (We all know she is doing it for her sister, but the Losties all have families too.)

Lost is my favorite show although it did fall behind for a little while. I can never miss an episode. It is what gets me through the work week. Sad I know.
I still do not buy the purgatory story. That would ruin the entire show for me.
Posted by: Addicted | April 26, 2007 04:10 PM
Ahem. I don't think Henry Gale is the one that he wants Sawyer to kill. Hmmm. Who could it possibly be? ;)
Posted by: Addicted | April 26, 2007 04:13 PM
I love the theory about the plane crash and why the girl said they were all dead. I hope that is the case and not that they are really dead.
Also - I'm a little confused on the Mikhail thing. Did he fake his death or did the island bring him back to life? If it's the latter would it have also brought all the others back to life (like Boone) if they hadn't been in such a hurry to bury them?
Lost is definitely my favorite show and this is my favorite Lost Blog!

I agree with Miss M about Juliette turning off the recorder and saying "I Hate you" to Benry. That was very telling and a slight redemption on her evilness.
Wait, was that a recorder? Does he come back and listen to it?
Anyway, she was still working on Austin's (Kate's) "sample" What are the samples? Urine? Blood? I bet she's preggo next since she's been having all that sweaty island sex.
I think your theory of a staged accident is a possibility. Good one.
Seeing Mikhail jump out of the jungle was awesome. I like his character. He's smarmy and wily. Oooh and I wanna see whats under his patch.
Oh and I live and die for Lost it is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TV SHOW. Then comes Heroes, then Soprano's and then Survivor.
Posted by: The Aitch | April 26, 2007 04:26 PM
I'm going to have to go replay the episode spoiler for next week...was it Henry/Ben that Locke had locked up? Or Locke's dad? I kind of missed that part of it, but I didn't miss the part where he wanted Sawyer to kill him because he couldn't, so I figured it was Locke's dad because we've all basically figured out that the dad is the same man Sawyer has been looking for.
Anyway, Lost is my absolute favorite show, with Heroes and The 4400 after that.
I had quite a few WTF moments last night, so forgive me if this is long.
1: Parachute girl spoke Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Portugese and English? Jesus, does she speak every language known to man???
2: Mikhail...thank God everyone else remembered the episode that he was electrocuted and we saw him die, because when he popped out of the jungle like that, I thought I might have been losing my mind! Where has he been??? And what, he has superhuman fixer-up help from the island that he can't be killed? You could still see blood on his ears, for God's sake!
3: Normal sperm count is about 20 million, but five times that on the island???
4: Juliet "I hate you"...though, she had the recorder off. Looks like she's being forced to do Ben's work. What does he have over her? Because it can't possibly be that he's promised to get her off the island...I think she knows by now that he'll never let her leave.
5: Poor Sun. Is Juliet going to try those experimental things on her, too?
6: And the ultimate: "Flight 815 was found, no survivors." WTF??? I am going to be so, so pissed if this is like a Rosanne thing (anyone remember the series finale of Rosanne???). I am hoping and wishing, Daniel, that you are correct and that Ben called some people to take of it. But, if they found no survivors, wouldn't that have to mean they found dead bodies? And if they're in purgatory, is Ben the devil? Desmond, Rousseau and all the others dead too? I am going to be extremely upset if that's where this is headed.
Thanks for reading my long post, and hopefully we'll get some answers next week!!!

Not only do I look forward to Wednesdays at 10 starting from Wednesday at 11, now I look forward to Thursday. Your site is hilarious. It makes me laugh out loud. And now my husband and I catch ourselves saying things like, "Daniel is going to love seeing Charlie get smacked around," or something to that effect.
Anyway, did anyone catch Juliette saying that she was going to get a sample from "Austin" when she was recording her message to Ben? Does that mean Kate's pregnant and they were mating her and Sawyer?

Even though Lost frustrates me more often than not, it is still my favorite show. I also can't get enough of 24 and The Office, but Lost will always be #1.
I'm similarly tough on rating the episodes, especially this season, so I agree that last night's was a B, at most. The one thing I just loved was that Mikhail is still alive. The thing about the plane wasn't that interesting to me because I've never bought the purgatory idea...it has to be a Hanso set-up.
I also loved the Juliet's "I hate you" line, and although she's terribly evil and I still don't sympathize with her, the way she said it was kind of heartbreaking.
P.S. The Anna Nicole lines were brilliant...this blog might actually be my favorite thing about Lost.
Posted by: LostLover | April 26, 2007 04:51 PM
Could it be possible that The Others fed misinformation to the outside world regarding flight 815? Couldn't they have sent images of the plane crash and dead bodies to fool the world into thinking they are all dead so that they can do what they want with the survivors without having to worry about the losties being rescued? We've seen how powerful and clandestine they are from Juliet's backstories.
Posted by: Dana | April 26, 2007 05:02 PM
I was so excited to read that other viewers are thinking about the purgatory aspect of the show! I brought that up several episodes back, and got shot down, because the writers said "no" the first season. So, if that is not the answer to all of this and lets all hope that it does not end up being a stupid "dream thing" or Locke 'writing a novel", that would be such a let down! How about the Sci-fi aspect of a "parallel universe"? After all it is called LOST!!!! Luv the show-2nd fav-Boston Legal-Denny Crane is THE MAN....Thanks Daniel for a great blog!!

Lost is my favorite show, I am going to go through withdrawal when it's over. I also love Ugly Betty, Rome, The Tudors, Big Love, House and Thank God You're Here. I watch too much TV.
Anywho, Last night's episode was good, although I thought some parts were predictible. It was good to see a Sun/Jin flashback. Ole' Patchy creeped me out. Nice touch. We already know that people are healed when they come to the island, so it would make sense that the dead could somehow be reanimated.Although, if that's the case, where are Shannon, Boone, Ana Lucia, Libby, etc...
I'm really growing increasingly pissed and frustrated however, that we haven't seen Bernard & Rose for months. Rose was so intuitive when speaking to Locke about her cancer being gone...I just know there's a really good back story there. She's gotta be connected to this thing for a reason. Why else bother to tell their story in the first place? I think Rose may posess some powers like Desmond. Megan, good observation...mating Kate & Sawyer..that's genius. I still don't like Juliette, she creeps me out. I don't trust her. However, I believe she's going to do whatever she has to to help Sun deliver a healty baby and survive because she knows that it's the only way Ben is going to let her off the island.

Megan, What a nasty way to think of Kate and Sawyer's cage lovin' ..... I LOVE it!! The whole breeding in the zoo thing is so Henry Gale.

you are one funny dude daniel... i thorougly enjoy these every week and LOVE that you started a seperate website for it.
Posted by: Tina | April 26, 2007 05:53 PM
I'm pretty sure that in the preview for next week, thats not really Ben we see. I think thats Lockes father (who if you recall showed up mysteriously at the Others camp ie. Man from Tallahassee) and Lockes father I'm almost 100% certain is the REAL Sawyer with whom James wants to kill so badly.
Posted by: Amber | April 26, 2007 06:55 PM
Lost is my second favorite show. My favorite show is House, because at least I get some closure over there, so I can deal with all the "What the..." moments on Lost.
Life is all a delicate balancing act, isn't it?
Posted by: Heather | April 26, 2007 07:05 PM
You missed two HUGE details in your diary...the fact that Juliet said she would have Austen's sample soon and the fact that Juliet said "I hate you" after she got through recording...Soooooooo does that mean that Kate is pregnant too???And does the latter mean that Juliet really does hate Ben and that she is still being forced to be heinous??? Yes, Lost is still my favorite show and thanks for translating what the parachute lady from The Haunted Mansion said...quite enlightening.
Posted by: Laura | April 26, 2007 07:13 PM
ok, just a few comments here. First, love the anna nicholl thing. simply brilliant.
Next, Mikhail being alive...hmmm...maybe he's learned some nifty trick from peter of heroes who took on clare's healing gifts? (my other fav show, but getting too violent imho. Just wish they'd do something about sylar. creepy, creepy, creeyp. Makes henry gale look like a boy scout leader. Sorry, off subject).
Also, love the idea of the kate/sawyer/cage in zoo/mating thing. Very clever.
??--did the parachute-girl really say "i am not alone" in a foreign language? Has that been confirmed? another hmmmm...
And if they are in hell or someplace like that, it made me think of the dallas (i know, i'm going waaaayyy back now) where bobbie died and they based an entire season on it and then went on to bring him back the next year by making the whole thing a dream of pam's. Now that's rotten writing!).
And Daniel, this one made me literlly laugh out loud. The drink thing alone was way funny. Thanks for that!
Posted by: Beth | April 26, 2007 07:23 PM
Thank you Laura! Jeez, I KNEW I'd seen the parachute girl before, but could not figure out where I'd seen her!!! One mystery solved!!! :)
Posted by: smcbroom | April 26, 2007 07:24 PM
I think your theory about a staged crash site is probably true. I don't think the producers would debunk the purgatory myth only to turn around and reveal it as the answer to mystery zero. It would just be too obvious.
I don't watch much tv these days, but I definitely carve out time on Wednesdays for Lost, so I guess I would say Lost is my favorite show. So maybe it hasn't been as good lately, but it is still the only show I really "follow."

Lost is the only show that I stop the world for. I cant wait to get online thurs morning to see your siteIt is the highlite if my day. I too laugh out loud and have learned so much from you all. I am still facinated by Juliette. I know that she is an evil bitch. But what a great charactor!!I dont know what to think about patchy being alive. What a shocher. So would all those people have come back to life if they didnt bury them so quickly??I loved how tough Sun was with her father and Jin's mom. But I dont understand why Desmond let Patchy go. I know he gave his word, but Hello?? Thanks for the translation on the parachute girl. I couldnt even sleep last night thing about all of the hmms..Daniel you are hilarious. Keep up the good work. And Hurley, great lines last night. God, I love his charactor. But please, lost producers, show Rose and Bernard. I would rather see them that Kate and Sawyer going at it again.

Lost is not my favorite show but I am a big fan. I even stuck with it when my husband wanted to jump ship. He has since stated the show has gotten much better of late- ya know, besides for the terrible paolo and nicki thing.
You didn't say past or present so here are shows that are better than Lost: Buffy, West Wing, Battlestar, Firefly, Oz, and Heroes. And Desperate has been great this season.
Ok. :)

I was wondering if anyone knew the significance of the episode title "D.O.C."? I can't figure it out.
I thought the episode was not bad. It was really interesting that Sun ends up being the cause of Jin working for her father, which in turn, is what causes all the problems in their marriage. And she was just trying to protect him.
Great comments this week - I loved the whole Anna Nicole reference!

Ah, I'm so happy Mikhail is back. I love his Russian, eye-patched, still-alive-after-dying ass.
Anyway, Lost use to be my favorite show, but it has slipped. I'd probably say right now, Heroes is my favorite, along with Grey's Anatomy and Entourage (Oz too but that's been long over with)

Daniel--'Lost' is still my favorite show. I don't agonize over it like so many people which enables me to enjoy it for what it is. I really like your 'Lost' Diary and appreciate all your hard work(entertaining and drinking with your pals!)This epi I liked how Kate had filled everyone in(off camera, I guess)on Mikhail's "death" etc., so that for once some people seemed to know what was going on and were therefore suspicious of everything. Charlie seemed much less stupid, too. I may even miss him when he goes--I'm joking--I do hate that they keep killing people off. It's my only real problem with the show. Keep up the good work--can't wait for next week!

Thanks, Laura.

I'm so far down the list I hope someone reads this!!
So how pissed is Henry going to be to know that Mikhail was cured from death by the island and he still can't beat cancer... But this leaves me with a very troubling thought... Nikki and Paolo's return. Urggh.
Also, if the phone didn't work why was Mikael taking it? The Losties weren't going to make it work. Heck I'm still trying to figure out why they are not wanting to take hot showers.
Finally, I meant to say last week great catch Daniel with the picture in Desmonds flashback. My question is why the hell did it look like the worst photoshopped picture in history????

Decent episode, I would very much like to see the rest of the translations of what the parachute lady said though.
