L.D.Q.A. -- 6/4
Well it looks like a good number of people went back and re-watched the pilot with me last week, which is great. I'm glad we could keep the Diary going throughout the summer and winter -- February is a long way away.
On a related note, I am up to 425 friends on MySpace as I write this, which means I only need 56,957 to reach my goal of surpassing Brody Jenner. This could be tougher than I thought.
Let's make with the questions ...
Q: Daniel, which character from "Lost" should I dress up as for Halloween and why? P.S. I don't dress up for Halloween, just want you to post my question on the Q&A, LOL. How selfish am I brutha?! -- Yvette
A: Dress up as Rousseau. Wear a tank top and khakis and rub a bunch of dirt on yourself and blabber on in French.
Q: Did you get into the Lost Experience game last summer? -- Tracy
A: I didn't. Had it been this summer, I might have. But it's a TV show and I just have to draw the line somewhere sometimes.
Q: So what's up with the woman and little boy from the car crash? Could it possibly be Claire and Aaron? -- Diane
A: I don't buy it -- wouldn't Jack have recognized her? Some people think it could be Juliet's sister and her son, that I could buy. Odds are it's no one important.
Q: What do you think Jack meant when he met with Kate at the end of the episode outside the airport, "I'm tired of lying, not telling the truth"?
A: I am guessing you can't just show back up after surviving a plane crash and tell everyone what happened on the island. Odds are whoever did get off the island and returned to civilization had to tell some sort of tale. "Yeah, then there was this black smoke monster..." probably wouldn't fly.
Q: I would love to know more about how and why Ben got caught by the Losties in the first place. Considering how much of a control freak he is, and how the others listen to and follow his every command, it seems odd (in retrospect) that Ben 1) was out walking alone, 2) actually got caught in one of Rousseau's traps and 3) nobody knew he was gone or came to look for him. Unless, of course, Ben got caught on purpose to find out more about the Losties and determine what they knew about the island and/or Jacob. But that would be very risky, considering that Ana-Lucia almost killed him and Sayid opened a can of whoop-ass on him so bad that he almost died. -- Rich
A: I really want to go back and watch the Henry Gale in the hatch episodes now, but I guess I have to wait til I get to them. OK, as best I can piece it together, the Others knew about the Hatch because of the camera system in the The Pearl. But they couldn't get in, so once the Losties did, the Others wanted in too, to see what's what. So Henry Gale got captured on purpose to see what really went on there. That's my best guess.
Q: 1) Admit that you own a "Lost" poster or "Lost" character action figure.
1a) Admit that item is placed in your office and/or bedroom.
2) Admit that you've daydreamed about Danielle and Rose.
3) Admit that you have frequent sweaty dreams of Locke and Henry.
4) Admit that you've looked at the "Lost" convention schedule and have made plans to camp outside.
5) Admit that you shed a tear when Charlie finally drowned and then you danced the Running Man.
6) Admit that you are jealous of all the attention Lauren and Matt are getting riding on your coat tails. -- Janice
A: Sorry, the answer to all of those is No. Though I do still have a "Star Wars" pillow case from when I was a kid.
Q: What is your favorite color? -- Tiffany
A: Purple.
Q: What are your top 5 favorite bands? -- Heather
A: My music collection is broken down into two categories: Prince and everything else.
Q: What are you favorite TV shows? Top five shows that are no longer one and top five that you watch now? -- Laura
A: No longer on now: "The West Wing," "Alias" (but only the first two seasons), "Veronica Mars," "Arrested Development" and
Still on TV: "The Wire," "The Shield," "Lost," "Dexter" and "Scrubs." Not sure which category "Deadwood" falls into, since it's over but they say they're going to make two two-hour movies at some point. Consider it an alternate on both lists.

Oh crap! We can ask questions about Daniel??? Well, I guess this might turn out to be a dating service for Daniel after all! =)
I will say that it is nice to know we can ask ?'s about you that way we can get to know you better.......
Anyways, back to the topic-- Henry Gale......Hmm......See, if we really think about it, I bet in a WEIRD sort of way, he knew EXACTLY what he was doing in regards to getting caught in Rousseau's traps and remember, if Mikahli (however you spell his name!) can come back from the dead, why couldn't Henry? I think I'm just really interested in seeing how the show is going to go once in comes back, you know, in 8 F-ING MONTHS!!!!! ugh....way too long for this manatee!
Hope everything is well with everyone and can't wait to continue the discussion!
me! =)

Deadwood was great .... Big Love is good to it gives me the creep's It is like a train wreck.

Hey, it could have been Claire in that car crash. Rather than just guilt looming over him for causing the crash, maybe the reason he insisted on doing the surgery himself was because it was Claire.

Hello,
In comments last week, someone wanted to know where I got the info from the Michael Emerson ("Ben") interview. Well, here it is:

Hi Daniel,
Sounds like as good a theory as any. I wonder if we'll pick up any additional clues as we rewatch the episodes where we fist get introduced to Ben. Should be interesting.
PS - my main goal was to try and get you to refer to him as "Ben" just once, but you stayed strong and still called him Henry Gale. LOL. Don't worry.....I'll get you to crack!

Yeah, I agree too, Deadwood was awesome, as was Rome. Almost the same formula but in a different time.
Not to go too off topic, but how is HBO going to replace such awesome shows?! I hope they don't start losing their mojo.
Posted by: Janice | June 4, 2007 08:14 AM
Daniel, I may be in love, not only do you know more about LOST than anyone else I know, you are a Prince fan too. Did you find anyone to hook you up with the Minneapolis/Macy's show on 7/7/7?
Posted by: Janelle | June 4, 2007 08:24 AM
In the finale, wasn't the lady's last name from the accident Arlen or something like that? I also think if it was Claire, Jack would have had a different reaction. I like the idea of it being Juliet's sister tho.
Posted by: Tracy | June 4, 2007 08:51 AM
Have you ever talked about the similarities between Stephen King's The Stand and Lost? I've seen the discussion on other message boards. Bernard the dentist is in it and as soon as I saw the screenshot of Jacob, I thought he looked like Randall Flagg...
Posted by: Kaye | June 4, 2007 09:13 AM
Janice HBO has a new show starting next week that looks good .... we will see
Posted by: Laura | June 4, 2007 09:26 AM
According to the closed captioning, the woman who was in the accident is named Ms. Arlen or Arland...both Jack and the new COS mention it.
BTW - Great question Rich.
Purple is the best color ever!!!
Posted by: mr burns | June 4, 2007 09:50 AM
It could have been Claire in that crash...you know we never did see who was in that casket...it could've been Claire since Jack failed to save her. Hmm.
Posted by: Mandi | June 4, 2007 09:54 AM
You are the first person that has said they like Dexter! I love that show, been waiting patiently for the second season!
I cannot believe Rome is not coming back..I am through with HBO series now. Two seasons? Come on...it completely leaves us hanging...like with Carnivale (anyone watch that one?)--completely left you hanging.
I like the Tudors on Showtime, anyone catch that one? And The 4400, which starts back next month. I really like Heroes, but it started out fantastic and kind of got predictable by the end of the season. Nothing really quite compares to Lost, does it?
Posted by: ssmcbroom | June 4, 2007 10:23 AM
The Simpsons rock!
(I know it's old school - but I still love 'em)
Posted by: mr burns | June 4, 2007 11:15 AM
Anyone watch Jericho? I love that show. The 4400 was good but I lost it in the shuffle and gave up on it maybe I will look for it agian.
Posted by: Laura | June 4, 2007 11:50 AM
The best HBO series is Curb Your Enthusiasm, which starts its sixth season later this year on HBO.
Posted by: Rich DeBerg | June 4, 2007 11:52 AM
I enjoy your Blog. Thanks for filling time 'til next season. You wrote "So Henry Gale got captured on purpose to see what really went on there. That's my best guess"
Inferred from the conversation overheard by Paolo between Ben and Juliet in the Pearl (Expose), Ben's plan all along was to connect with the Losties with the purpose of getting his surgury. He knew from Michael's research that Jack was a surgeon. He did indeed get captured on purpose, but I don't think it had anything to do with seeing the inside of the Swan,it was rather to meet the Losties so he could begin his manipulation of Jack in particular.

Dude, does no one watch the Office? What is up with that?!? That's the only show besides LOST that I watch every week. Plus, sometimes they mention Lost on the show, which gives me a big, dorky thrill.
Posted by: Marie | June 4, 2007 12:14 PM
Oh, and the best shows off the air are:
1/ Firefly
2/ BtVS
3/ Angel
4/ Veronica Mars
Best shows ON the air (and about all I watch these days)
1/ LOST
2/ Supernatural
3/ Stargate
4/ Stargate Atlantis
5/ ER (really)
Posted by: janelle | June 4, 2007 12:28 PM
Hmmmm...what a bizarre coincidence. MY favorite color is purple too! Do you think that we "purple lovers" have something going on in our DNA that makes us love LOST? Or, could we all be succumbing to some subliminal messaging by the producers? Oooo, creepy. ;-)
(OK, so I am a little slap-happy today. It was a long weekend.)
Posted by: widsl | June 4, 2007 12:28 PM
Janelle-I LOVE the Stargate series'. I am so sad to see SG-1 go, but I am glad that they at least decided to wrap up the story lines and not just leave us all hanging out in space with the Ori poised to destroy the galaxy. I think Atlantis is continuing though.
Posted by: widsl | June 4, 2007 12:32 PM
Wow, Daniel. You've got lotttssss of girlies lusting after your Lost-Addicted Ass. (and the rest of you, too.)
Does that make you feel like cool beans? Or does it weird you out?
Love from RI

Marie, if you really want to laugh, go and rent/buy the original "The Office", which aired on the BBC in the UK. It was only 2 seasons, but all of the episodes were hilarious.
Posted by: Rich DeBerg | June 4, 2007 12:43 PM
Hello everyone! Hi Daniel!
I agree that "Ben" or "Benry" or "Henry Gale" got himself captured so he could spy on the Losties like he sent those 2 other "Others" at the beginning as well- can't remember there names just remember it was the dude who captured Claire and the dude sleeping with Juliette.
As for 5 favorites on air-
LOST!
Ugly Betty
Grey's Anatomy
The 4400
Soprano's (well it only has 1 episode left...)
Off Air
Supernatural (Actually not sure if it's still on or not since I don't get the channel)
Seinfeld
The Book of Daniel (It's just a coincidence)
Unsolved Mysteries
Buffy
Well- Have a great day!
Talk to ya Thursday.

ssmcbroom mentioned Carnivale, and yes, I was beyond pissed for ages. I've since been boycotting them...I know it's been two years, but COME ON!! I hate when networks just leave us hanging like that. At the very least, couldn't they just do a 1.5 hour movie thing and wrap up the loose ends?
grrr....
Posted by: Reese | June 4, 2007 02:56 PM
OMG Reese! Just using the word "Carnivale" in a sentence still pisses me off! So glad that I am not alone. In fact, I cancelled HBO when they pulled it, got it back for this final season of Sopranos and will cancel again as soon as the credits roll after the finale. And Daniel: I have 3 music categories myself-Don Henley, Prince, and everything else.
Posted by: Angel | June 4, 2007 03:08 PM
I watched the US version of the office and I was not that thrilled .... I probably would of liked it if I wasent a fan of the UK show first...... Another UK show that was great was Absolutely Fabulous or Ab Fab OMG that show was great I know it would be BAD as in not good in a U.S. version.
Posted by: Laura | June 4, 2007 03:27 PM
Oh ya .... And I love Prince and Purple I think it was my teen's in the 80's that did me in.
Posted by: Laura | June 4, 2007 03:28 PM
purple - prince? aha!
for you, daniel and your purple-lovin-self

oh, and i don't think Mikhail ever died... so, i definitely don't think he came back to life.. i think that fence did something nasty to him (or he did it himself to confuse the gang), but didn't kill him... maybe someone found him and did CPR? i dunno, they didn't stay for very long to verify that he was dead. i'm not convinced he died.
Posted by: tiffany l | June 4, 2007 04:29 PM
just rewatched Pilot 1 and 2.
Sawyer used to have a weird looking neck and shoulders.!?%#!
What was up with the full body shot of Kate in wet undies and bra standing on the rocks by the water??? i totally dug the seen... BUT Jin(or Sun, whichever one is the chick) comes over and yells at her like something important is taking place. BUT the next seen is Kate talking about something that totally didnt deserve a harsh interuption of a hot hot kate posing for us by Sun/Jin.
SEASON 4 should just be scnes of the good looking people on the island getting drunk and having sex all the time. IT WOULD BE JUST LIKE REAL WORLD LAS VEGAS(the first one, not this stupid reunion crap).

Seriously, it is the only adult TV show that I watch. I don't know what I will do with myself when the show is over - the one hour on Wednesday nights is just the beginning of the hours I spend on this show each week. However, I would so much rather have it end while it is still good, rather than hang on like X-Files.

About Mikhail, when he popped back up in the Others camp, I remember Ben saying "I thought you died," and Mikhail said something like unfortunately for you the fence was not set at the highest frequency or something like that..so I think the fence just stunned him...hurt him, but just stunned him, not killed him.
Posted by: ssmcbroom | June 5, 2007 07:30 AM
Yeah - Mikhail definitely said to Ben...lucky it wasn't set at lethal..and also when young Ben turns off the fence to leave, you can see the dial to change the settings.
And here are my top five shows (on air), just to add to the coversation -
1. LOST
2. The Simpsons
3. Family Guy
4. Criminal Minds

Tiffany - do you think Mikhail died from the grenade explosion underwater??
I'm uncertain...I want to lean on the side that he is dead now...he has to die eventually or it would become ridiculous. However, at the same time I wouldn't be suprised to see Mikhail again...since we didn't verify he's completely and fully dead.
Honestly to me, the scene when Desmond shoots Mikhail with the arrow thing reminded me of a horror flick (when the people shoot someone, they think that person is dead and move on, but wait that bad guy is still alive!!!) I had a sneaking suspicion that Mikhail wasn't dead from that arrow thru the heart...he's the island's Jason Vorhees (ha)
I learned, after watching one too many horror movies, that one needs to verify the bad guy is dead...even if it means shooting him again.
As with everything else, we'll have to wait and see.

Daniel & ssmcbroom-
You guys will go down in my book as the coolest ever for mentioning Dexter. That show was incredible (the book was just as great) and I completely agree with you about Carnivale! I was so hooked and then a complete letdown!!! I need to know what happened and now will be left to wonder forever. I am waiting patiently for Dex to come back on. I love that show! I also got heavily wrapped up in Rome and kind of felt like they robbed us of the big battle on the last episode. I loved it when Pulo (sp?) bit that guys tongue out...probably one of the best moments in HBO history.
Posted by: Tristan | June 5, 2007 10:45 AM
mr burns - i definitely think Mikhail's dead from that grenade... they can't keep dragging that out.. i mean, i totally get the Jason Vorhees thing and agree with you on some level, but they honestly can't keep dragging that out... we can't have another charlie-should-be-dead-thing hanging over ourheads, can we? that would just be sad.
Posted by: tiffany l | June 5, 2007 11:24 AM
TRISTAN: I hear you on ROME. One of the best shows ever! Atia was my favorite. (Thankfully she's gonna be on CANE this fall, and I have a feeling that her character is going to be evil!)
And my favorite scene was when Naiobi (sp?) jumped off the 2nd story balcony because she brought shame to her husband! I screamed!
Posted by: Janice | June 5, 2007 12:01 PM
Nan, you ROCK for having My So-Called Life on your list! does no one else care for this underrated show?
i agree, we will see Mikhail again.
Posted by: sarah | June 5, 2007 12:01 PM
TOP 5:
LOST
Smallville
24
Prison Break
Heroes
Off the Air:
Buffy
Invasion
Thats about it...
Mikhail has to be dead. I believe he held his purpose, which was to kill Charlie, and himself in the process.

JANICE: I love that you used the word shame in the sentence about her falling off the balconey. It made me think of Sun's dad! That was an emotional scene, I couldn't believe she killed herself and it was the begining of the end for Lucius Verenus (sp?). Atia was the cat's pjamama's and was so bad that is was good. Thanks for the heads up that she would be in another show.
SARAH: My so-called life was an excellent show and I agree with you that it is severely underrated. There aren't many great shows that you want to watch over and over again, but that show was one I would!
I really need to get back to work, but I am addicted to this blog...help!
Posted by: Tristan | June 6, 2007 06:39 AM
Scott - your comment is still up, so I don't understand your "censorship" claims - though since it is Daniel's blog, he can do pretty much what he wants to with it, including removing comments that he deems offensive or ignorant - and your comments were offensively ignorant. Seriously, you can't distinguish between Jin and Sun at this point? At least know who the characters are before writing about them.
Posted by: Nan | June 6, 2007 06:57 AM
Tristan, I absolutely hear you on Rome! I loved that show, could not believe they were not bringing it back. I'm not watching any more HBO shows, since they like to cancel them right when they're getting good! About Dexter :), I have been searching and searching for when season two is coming, and I found today that it's scheduled to premiere on September 30th. Oh, yeah!
Janice, Atia was my favorite, too...I sure am going to miss her character, but I may check out the CANE show you were mentioning, just to see if her character is evil :) She plays such a good evil person! lol

widsl,
please tell me SG-1 is not going off the air!! i love the sg shows as well but watch them on network tv so i missed that info. was the ori battle episode the last one?
Posted by: dalanadee | June 7, 2007 08:01 AM
Dalanadee - Well, the last I heard, SG-1 was indeed going off the air. The news broke sometime last September while I was on my honeymoon. (A very rude awakening to my husband and I when we returned.) Shortly after the 200th episode (entitled, "200")they stopped airing episodes - right in the middle of the Ori storyline. Their fate seemed to be hanging in the balance, but I could not find much information on the Sci-Fi Channel site or the official SG-1 site. From the info that I have gathered (and keep in mind, I have not spent a lot of time searching thanks to Daniel and this blog that eats up much of my day) ;-) - I think that SG-1 has indeed been cancelled, but they are finishing out Season 10 which is what is airing now on Sci-Fi. I think that Atlantis is continuing, however. I'm sorry, I don't have any more information than that. I hope I am wrong and they pick up SG-1 again for an 11th season. And while they're at it, if Richard Dean Anderson would rejoin the regular cast - I would be a happy little camper.
Posted by: widsl | June 7, 2007 08:52 AM
Hey widsl, I'm a big fan of Stargate too and as far as I know they are cancelling SG1, after the 10th season. And it just wasn't the same without Richard Dean Anderson was it? I like Atlantis too, but not as much as SG1.
Posted by: ♥ Susan ♥ | June 7, 2007 09:00 AM
:-( I am truly despondent!! That and Atlantis were definitely two of my favorites!! You are definitely right about Richard Dean Anderson, he was awesome, and sorely missed when he left. I guess I will have to content myself with buying the dvd's.
And widsl, you are right about this blog...if my boss had any idea how much time I spend reading posts from other Lost junkies, this site would definitely be blocked!! I even have my cubemates hooked on this now.
Susan, glad to see another SG fan out there will be missing SG-1 as much as I will.

Hi Susan and Dalanadee. I know, I was very sad when I heard the news. Richard Dean Anderson was so great in that show. I thought that he would be forever MacGuyver in my mind, but he really made the character O'Neill his own. So irreverent and funny. He has great comic timing. He had made some guest appearances lately on SG-1 and Atlantis and he's funny as ever. I will miss that show very much. Atlantis is good, but Dr. Weir annoys me. I don't know why. McKay is pretty funny though. Did you see last Friday's Atlantis? They killed off a MAJOR character (I don't want to spoil it here) and I cried like a little baby. Of course, my husband laughed at me.

Hey wisdl and Dalanadee! Wisdl! I know, they killed off my favorite Scots man!! If it wasn't for Rodney McKay I probably wouldn't watch Atlantis. Dr. Weir and Tela annoy me to no end. I cried too. *sniff*

Good Morning Widsl & Susan,
I watch so many tv programs that my TIVO is overloaded so I don't record anything on the Sci-Fi channel but you guys are making me rethink that. I am going to have to rearrange my recording schedule to tape these also!! Supernatural, Medium, Heroes, Smallville, SG-1, Atlantis...I'm a sci-fi junkie!! And then there's everything else I watch...lol...I really need to get a life!!
Posted by: dalanadee | June 8, 2007 06:59 AM
Good Morning!
SG-1 and Atlantis are the only shows I watch on Sci-Fi. I DVR them religiously. I also got into Medium and Jericho, but I have to admit (please don't hate me fellow LOST-bloggers), I never could get into Heroes. I watched a couple of episodes and it just didn't draw me in.
Susan - I wonder why that charachter left. Do you know?
Posted by: widsl | June 8, 2007 07:35 AM
From what I understand, Sci-Fi split the last season of SG1 into two seasons so the Ori battle was more of a mini-cliffhanger. But yes, this is the last season. also, Dr. Wier is leaving and Carter is switching over from SG1 to take her place on Atlantis

Wow! Carter? I didn't know that. That's great news because Dr. Weir makes my hair hurt. ;-) Thanks for the update, Janelle.
Posted by: widsl | June 8, 2007 08:35 AM
lol at widsl...your hair hurt...that's pretty painful!! Thanks for the info Janelle, I'm glad at least I'll still get to see Carter...but I'm going to miss Daniel Jackson...he's hot...all brainy and a cutie too!!
Posted by: dalanadee | June 8, 2007 08:40 AM
Oh my stars, Michael Shanks is HOT. It is partially that character too, because James Spader was yummers in the movie version.
Posted by: widsl | June 8, 2007 08:56 AM
yes he was. you are right. but speaking of james spader...i absolutely love him, and the infamous captain kirk, william shatner, in boston legal. they are hilarious!!
Posted by: dalanadee | June 8, 2007 09:10 AM
Boston Legal is one of my favorite shows. It is sooooo well-written and the characters are so off the wall, it cracks me up. Yes, James Spader is truly talented. I am glad he shed the bad-boy parts he portrayed in the 80's and can show off his comic side a bit. Love the modern-day Robin Hood of the judicial system. Shatner and his mad-cow. Hilarious. I am bummed because I missed the season finale and I can't find it anywhere. Not on ABC.com or that TV site that was shared here. Not even on iTunes. I guess I'll have to hope for a rerun.

Thanks Janelle. :-)

Thanks Janelle. Widsl, you are so right about Boston Legal...it is really funny!! I didn't like James Spader much in his bad boy persona but he nails it every week on Boston Legal. And William Shatner is outstanding as the lunatic you love to hate!! When he dropped his pants in that judge's ofice, I thought I would die...lol...lol!!!

hi widsl, dalanadee and janelle. wow! so glad to hear Carter is replacing weir. I agree widsl, I can't stand weir. Ha. I don't like either female leads, but I DO like Samantha Carter so that is cool. Widsl, I do not know why the scottish dr. character left. I like Michael Shanks too. He definitely is a cutie!

How can no one have "Rescue Me" in their top 5?

The researchers analyzed a woman, 48 years of age, who was suffering from akinetic mutism, which left her with an inability to speak or walk. It was found that 20 minutes after the patient was given zolpidem, an insomnia drug, she was able to talk, move and even eat on her own.
