White Rabbit
I am just warning you now: I am in a bad mood.
I came home from work on Wednesday with a new gadget for my TV (I'll spare you the details). A simple set-up, I thought, and then on to "Lost" and then to a bar in Hollywood to meet up with Ari and Lauren.
Four hours later, it still doesn't work, Ari and Lauren are probably inebriated, and here I am. Let's just say if you're reading this, and you work for D-Link, I hate you.
Anyway, I have absolutely no idea what episode I am about to watch, but it better be good -- I could use it.
00:00 -- Random Daniel factoid that occurs to me as I watch Lil Jack catch a whooping: I have never thrown a punch in my life and never had one thrown at me.
00:02 -- Other random Daniel factoid: I can't swim.
00:04 -- Jack's visions of his dad are so simple, yet soooo creepy.
00:06 -- As I watch Michael and Walt struggle, and Sun and Jin act distant, I am reminded again how good this crash actually was for so many people. Kate, for one, would have been in prison. Locke would be in a wheelchair. The list goes on.
00:07 -- I am imagining every woman will hate me for this, but here goes: Sawyer and Shannon kind of deserve each other. Kate, on the other hand, deserves me.
00:10 -- Would Charlie and Hurley be the worst "Survivor" contestants ever? They'd get voted off in a heartbeat.
00:12 -- If memory serves, all of Jack's flashbacks in this episode are designed to show how much his dad was an asshole.
00:13 -- As Boone rails on Jack, I half expect him to yell out "I drive a Dodge Stratus!"
00:14 -- I'd rather chase a ghost through the forrest than listen to Boone, too.
00:15 -- Jack's mom isn't much of a winner, either.
00:16 -- Claire apparently passed out from the heat and someone has stolen all the water. I have nothing to add here except I hope D-Link goes bankrupt.
00:18 -- Jack is chasing "his dad" through the forest. For some reason it doesn't occur to him how ludicrous this is.
00:21 -- Jack nearly tumbles off the edge of a cliff while trying to chase down "his dad." The lesson, as always: watch where you're going when you're chasing the ghost of your dead father through a haunted jungle on a mystical island.
00:22 -- But luckily for him, Locke is there to save the day.
00:23 -- Charlie and Claire are talking about Locke, I think. I couldn't tell for sure because I started bleeding out of my ears.
00:24 -- Watching people yell at each other, knowing the other person doesn't speak their language, always cracks me up.
00:25 -- If I hear the word "water" one more time ...
00:27 -- "How are they... the others?" -- Jack. Man, if he said that line one season later, it would have sounded a whole lot different.
00:28 -- I miss the days when the Locke and Jack scenes were the backbone of the show.
00:29 -- "What if everything that happened here happened for a reason?" -- Locke.
00:30 -- This whole scene between Locke and Jack is ironic since Locke actually caught his dad in season three.
00:31 -- R.I.P. Christian Shephard.
00:32 -- With all the people we've seen running around the island with torches, it's amazing they didn't burn the whole place down.
00:33 -- Ah, the caves. Good to see them again.
00:35 -- The scene of Jack at the airport will always be one of my all-time favorites -- Matthew Fox's finest work.
00:36 -- And there's no body in the coffin.
00:37 -- Boone, Boone, Boone <shaking head>
00:38 -- Speech time.
00:39 -- "If we can't live together, we're going to die alone." -- Jack. Right then, at that moment, he totally could have had Kate.
00:41 -- A nice subtle hint there at the end that Jin and Michael are starting to figure it all out.
Another solid episode that lays the groundwork for what's to come. It's so weird to watch season one again -- no hatch, no Others. It's just them and the island and somehow that's enough.
I'll give this episode a solid B+. A great scene between Locke and Jack (first of many) was really the anchor for me. It's cool to see how slowly the mystery of the island builds. A giant monster is easy to understand, straightforward even. But Locke regaining use of his legs and Jack seeing his dead father -- that's what "Lost" is all about.
Alright, here's my question this week, which really has nothing to do with this episode: You turn on the TV to watch the premiere of season four. You hear that sound you hear right before every flashback ... whose flashback do you want it to be?
Comments
Rousseau. Even since she asked Alex if she wanted to help her tie up her dad (ah, the bonding), I've been dying to see how Benry ends up raising Alex. Rousseau also told Sayid she had never seen the others in S1. I wonder if that is true or a writer's mistake. I believe her to very integral to the mystery/explanation of the island along with Walt, Locke and Hurley.

Ok, note to self, captain's log-- Never watch this episode in the dark around midnight AGAIN! Man.......Watching Jack's dad just turn just creeped me the F out! AND right after that, I dropped the remote on the wood floor and it made me jump from the sound! So yeah.....
Anyways, on to the show-
- Jack's folks BUH-LOW!
- What would they all do without Locke? Like, seriously.
- And seriously, why hasn't the jungle burn down yet?
- Is it just me but isn't it sometimes weird to go back (or in some cases, see for the first time) how it was to knowing what it's like now? For example, (**Some spoilers!**) to see how Sawyer was all about him and now has a semi-heart and thinks of others? From Jin acting like a total prick to being such a sweet guy and trying to help as much as he can? I mean, I know those are obivious examples (as I type this, it's almost 1 in the morning) but you know what I mean?
Well, I better get to bed.......Very busy week over at "Casa de Suarez"! With my mother retiring tomorrow, my cousin getting married and a very good friend graduating, this lil manatee needs her rest! OH! Before I forget, I posted this as a comment on the Myspace page for the Diary but I'll post it on here too! It's a clip someone made about the crash I saw on AOL Video Blog and it's on YouTube......Check it out! It's quite interesting!

Talk to you guys later!

Hey, first, thanks for adding me on myspace. I've been a major lurker up till now, reading your recaps every week. I've actually been reading your recaps since you were posting them up at TMZ. Anyways, haven't watched this episode yet, looking forward to watching it tonight. It's always been one of my favorites though, pretty much because of Jack's 'Live Together, Die Alone' speech and the Jack and Locke scenes.

What if the 'flashback' sound we hear isn't a flashback sound at all; what if it's a flashforward sound. If that were the case and it was a flashforward scene, I would like to see a scence of Kate. Since she was in the last flashforward scene, i think she could point out some more clues as to who is in the coffin that had Jack so upset. I really do hope the first scene of season 4 is either a flashforward or a flashback scene.
Posted by: ena | June 21, 2007 01:02 AM
Yeah, I was going to say that, at the risk of sounding unpopular, I would like to see a Kate flash-forward so we can begin to puzzle out what happened post-island. Though I wouldn't be disappointed to get Rousseau, Locke, or Henry Gale. Or Walt! Still want to know what happens to Walt.
Another really great way to kick off Season 4 & answer some questions would be an island-centric episode about the handful of people left behind (if there are any).

I would like to see a Rouseau flashback.
Posted by: kristina | June 21, 2007 04:25 AM
Rousseau!!!
Posted by: Alyssa | June 21, 2007 05:05 AM
I agree. Some background on Rousseau would be great. Maybe there are some ties there somehow to the other Losties even though she's been there for sixteen years. A comment to Me! posted earlier about Jin going from prick to helpful. I was thinking about that and remembered that before he actually married Sun and got involved with her Dad, he was a really nice guy. Sweet even. I think he just lost all the hardness from working with Sun's dominating Daddy. Just a thought.
Posted by: Robin | June 21, 2007 05:18 AM
yeah, i miss when Locke and Jack used to be the backbone of the show. now, neither one makes my Top 5 list of Losties. i concur with most so far that i would love to see a Rousseau flashback. or maybe even Adam and Eve from the caves.

That was me posting about Jin. Not sure why it came up as anonymous. I'm sure it's something I did.

I'd like to see more about Ben and his childhood friend...the name is slipping my mind at the moment.
Posted by: Maria | June 21, 2007 05:51 AM
Maria, it's Annie. There are so many flippin' characters, it is hard to keep them straight!
I would love to see a flash back from some of the other's. A Richard flashback would really do it for me, but I would take a Rousseau. I couldn't stop myself, last night my husband and I watched 3 or 4 more episodes and can I just say that I had forgotten (SPOILER!!!!) about the dream that Claire had the episode before Ethan took her. I was terrified and I concur with the comment placed by me!=) that Lost isn't something to be watched at 12 am. Very tricky to fall asleep after that one!
Have a great day!!

I agree on *wanting* to see a Rousseau flashback (perhaps something that opens with people speaking Croatian, through which the writers finally admit that maybe the character just MARRIED a French guy, and isn't ACTUALLY French, since it's so painfully obvious).
However I think we *will* see a Michael or Walt flashback... or forward... Or at least revisit their story during the first two episodes.
Another flashforward I wouldn't complain about would be Henry Gale, PI (Post-Island), thus picking up somewhat where the finale left off w/ Jack and Kate.
Posted by: ali | June 21, 2007 06:11 AM
I watched White Rabbit, too. Charlie doesn't scream "I can't swim," he screams "I DON'T swim." Quite different, if you ask me. We saw him in the Greatest Hits flashback - he has water phobia.
As for flashbacks, I think a Ben flashback would be good - see how everyone got off the island.
Posted by: sofi | June 21, 2007 06:13 AM
oh and also, ADAM AND EVE FLASHBACK OMFG!!!1!1!!! Nice suggestion, sarah.
Posted by: ali | June 21, 2007 06:14 AM
An Alex flashback would give us both a Ben and a Rousseau flashback at the same time, right, with some Carl background mixed in? That would be satisfying. Or, a flashback on the women in the underwater station, but probably not the first ep of the season. I want to know why no one else knew they were there.
And you are so right, Daniel, that if Charlie couldn't swim three months earlier, wouldn't have Jack remembered that when he volunteered to swim down to the underwater station? Or, was he too afraid to jump into the water to save drowning girl? Have we seen his transformation from coward to hero?
Posted by: Janelle | June 21, 2007 06:15 AM
I'd like to see more about our eyeliner-enriched friend Richard. That ought to be a pretty good story. And don't you dare say Sawyer and Shannon deserve each other! Sawyer is waaaaaaaaaaay too good for Shannon, ok? Can't she die already? The only point in the 3 years of the series that I didn't like Sayid was when he got with Shannon. Ick! And I totally agree about Boone. Not sorry that he and Shannon are both gone now. And I'll say it again: Locke friggin' ROCKS!
Posted by: cathead67 | June 21, 2007 06:19 AM
Sorry you are in a bad mood, Daniel...I hope your electronics work better today! Anyway, on to your question, I would love to see a flashback of the time after the "purge" - what happened to Annie? That flashback could also be a Rousseau flashback as it includes the same time period. If it's another flash forward, I would like to see a Kate flashforward.
Posted by: flacamama | June 21, 2007 06:21 AM
Okay, so I kinda cheated and watched the Season 2 Finale last night--but it brings me to what I would like to see in the beginning of Season 4's first episode...
I totally forgot about how Sayid, Jin and Sun took a boat out to the rest of the island and came upon that HUGE GIANT FOOT--what was left of a statue. And Sayid said "I don't know what's worse, that it is that big or that it only has 4 toes."
What the hell was that? It totally freaked me out all over again!
So, I want to see more about the history of the island--doesn't really have to be about its secrets, just more about how long people have actually lived there and what the hell has gone on there all this time.
Posted by: Whitney | June 21, 2007 06:53 AM
I agree with Sayid and Whitney that the statue is freaky! I'd like to know more about that too.
Posted by: cathead67 | June 21, 2007 07:00 AM
ROUSSEAU, totally! I wanna see her when she crashed on the island and how everyone got sick, and how she had Alex taken from her! I bet you she went from educated researcher and sweet new mom to BADASS RAMBO-ETTE!
Posted by: Janice (formerly Belle) | June 21, 2007 07:20 AM
Definitely Rousseau with tie-ins to the others. I want more flashbacks about the island. If it's a flashforward. I want locke. I want to know if he's on or off the island.
Posted by: Shannon | June 21, 2007 07:35 AM
I am going to agree with everyone. ROUSSEAU. Hands down. I want to see more about how she got there, when her people got "sick" and how ALex was taken from her.
Posted by: Hannah | June 21, 2007 07:38 AM
How about a Mikhail flashback? A look into the past of Mr. Ultra-Creepy, "Even-Your-Harpoon-Through-My-Heart-Can't-Kill-Me" might give us clues into the Island's gifts of healing and immortality. Why do some people die, and others (like Ugly Eye-Patch Man) seem invincible?
Also, I'd like more Sayid backstory. As someone pointed out in an earlier thread, rewatching S1 reminds us that Sayid's early, edgy centrality has devolved a bit. I think the poster called him an S3 "Swiss Army knife"--called on for save-the-day odds-n-ends. Some killer (literally?) flashback material could help propel Our Favorite Iraqi back up the Top 5 charts.
I know Sayid lost a lot of Island street cred (beach cred?) with Lost fans when he fell for everyone's least favorite beach be-yatch, Shannon. But, hey, someone had to succumb to the tropical heat, to feed the ratings beast, and the producers wisely kept Kate dangling between Sawyer and Jack as long as they could.
One more FB wish: WTF has been going on with Michael and Walt since we last saw them?!?
Posted by: Vermonter | June 21, 2007 07:40 AM
If its a FF, I wanna see what happens to Aaron!
Speaking of Aaron, since alot of the Losties have Daddy issues, I wanna know who Aaron's father is and how he possibly ties into this show.
Posted by: Janice (formerly Belle) | June 21, 2007 07:51 AM
Hey Daniel and Everyone!
Well- I don't know if they will even do this- but maybe they could flashback to the beginnings of the island- show us who has been on the island and maybe kinda give us a timeline- maybe like some Discovery channel special- well...maybe not- I don't know- I just want to figure out what is so special about this damn island. Is is cursed...blessed...what? Is is Jacob controlling it's "powers" like Smokie?
I hope you figure out the electronic problem Daniel. I find when I get frustrated with something electronic or something I have to put together myself and it's not working out- I simply walk away for a little while or start over in the morning. As much as I want it too- cussing and throwing things never make the problem fix itself.... :)
Have a great day!

Good question. I pick Russeau since we know nothing about her really, and it'd be nice to get some backstory on her.
P.S. I can't swim either. Power to the nonswimmers. What's your reason? I have two I think: 1) My dad dropped me in Lake Erie fora second when I was a baby and I think subconsciously it freaked me out, and 2) I had tubes in my ears when I was little and I didn't like putting my head under water.
Posted by: Jessie | June 21, 2007 07:57 AM
Flash back wants: Mikhail, Richard, Rousseau- the order of the three not important-
And since all of the characters are intertwined in each other's past-lives, I want to know how Jin and Sun are woven in... Someone else's flashback will reveal it-

I want to know more about Rousseau, but would love to know more about Richard too.
Loved this episode. Jack seeing his dad over and over was downright creepy. Yeah, what would everyone do without Locke. Just love him.
Daniel, the Sawyer clip before this post was hilarious. Thanks!

I'd like to see a Richard and Rousseau flashback, but I think as far as the FIRST one, I'd want it to be Locke. I want to explore this whole Jacob thing through him.
And if it's going to be Flashforwards from now on, I think Aaron or Desmond would be awesome openers.
Posted by: michy | June 21, 2007 08:31 AM
OMG - good catch on Charlie and the whole swimming thing. I didn't even think about it, but I remember thinking as I watched Jack swim out to save that girl "why isn't anyone else helping him"? Out of over 40 people no one else can swim?? That seems sketchy to me.
This island is so creepy. This episode has haunted me, mostly because I felt like Christian was trying to tell Jack he needs to really focus on leading the other people. I just really want to know if he is really dead or not. My gut tells me he isn't.
I want to see a Jacob flashback and learn more about who or what he is. Rousseau and Richard flashbacks would be good too.
Posted by: Teresa Lynn | June 21, 2007 08:58 AM
Good points in the comments so far about Charlie not swimming. I'm assuming he lied when he said "I don't swim." Definitely in character. His whole hangup seems to be his feeling of being unable to save anyone - he was probably convinced he would botch it if he tried to save the woman.
And later when Des told Charlie he *saw* that Claire was rescued because of his actions, he was confident and willing because he *knew* it would work out, he knew exactly the steps he had to take, that for once he'd be able to rescue someone...
Poor Charlie...sigh. I actually think, while a lot of people think he wasn't central to the plot, he may be most central to the *theme* of the show, if redeptiom is as pivotal a theme as it seems to be...
PS - Think I'd be most pysched about a Walt flashback. (Although Danielle is one of my fave characters period; more her is always good!)
Posted by: ineedapeergroup | June 21, 2007 08:59 AM
that is, if "redemption" is a pivotal theme...I'm not sure "redeptiom" is central to anything...
Posted by: ineedapeergroup | June 21, 2007 09:01 AM
Hey guys,
Robin- You know what else I was thinking about when it comes to Jin? (**SEMI-BIG SPOILER!!! CAREFUL**) HIS WIFE CHEATED ON HIM!!! So yeah, I think I would be semi-perturbed too! Oh and i'm semi-retarded for not thinking about that earlier so boo on me.......
Janice- Wasn't that video really cool and interesting!? I'm glad someone was bored enough to do that cuz it was really great to see how it all worked and fit together......
I also forgot to mention which FB or FF I would like to see--
FB- Definitely Rousseau, but like Janelle mentions, an Alex FB would solve everything and be amazing! Also, a Richard one would be great too!
FF- LOCKE, LOCKE and oh, LOCKE!
me =)
Posted by: me! | June 21, 2007 09:11 AM
My hope for a Locke FF is that he's still on the island like he wants to be. Anything else would suck.
Posted by: cathead67 | June 21, 2007 09:21 AM
I'm personally on the Rousseau flashback bandwagon. Why would anyone go on an expedition, get pregnant, feel it necessary to kill their only 'support system'(other members of the expedition), and then stay on the island without seeing any other people after hearing the whispers? We pretty much know why the rest of the losties got on the plane, but why did Rousseau go on her expedition? I bet there is much more to know that could tie in!!!
***(NEWBIE SPOILER ALERT)***
I don't know if this counts...I'd like a flashback of the Black Rock. Could be a really cool story. Slave ship...miles inland...who survived (methinks it could be Richard!!)...lots of story to tell about a ship full of mining supplies and slaves.
Posted by: Diana | June 21, 2007 09:50 AM
Do we know what happened to Charlie's dad? It seems like he died at some point -- maybe he drowned and Charlie couldn't save him? I know, total supposition, but I can't help but think a/ there has to be a reason Charlie couldn't swim before and b/ we don't know what his daddy issue is yet. Oh, Daniel, does that mean we have some Charlie flashbacks coming?
Posted by: Janelle | June 21, 2007 09:53 AM
I also thought it was interesting that everyone else just stood on the beach and watched Jack try to save the people in the water. I grew up swimming everyday in the summer, now I'm lucky to swim once each summer. I can swim, but I doubt I could swim out and save anyone - especially in the ocean, but I could probably manage what Charlie did when he swam down to the Looking Glass. So, I don't really think the writers messed up there.
I would like to see a Desmond flashback - only cause I think he's really hot. Otherwise, Rousseau or Richard would be interesting to see some background info on.
Hey cat - I totally agree with you - it would suck if Locke wasn't able to stay on the island.
Also, here's a link to a really funny finale recap. Some of it's a little harsh, but most is just funny. There are a lot of pix so it might be hard on dial-up.

i think people watching Lost kind of fail to see things from the Losties perspective. if you were stranded on a beach because your plane fell out of the sky, what are the chances that you would risk your life, again, to swim out into the ocean?

Hello to my PEEPS!! LIT!! Where have you been???
Fantastic that everyone is into seeing Crazy Jungle Woman’s back-story!! Whoo-hoo!! She drives me bananas, with her "I-know-stuff-but-than-again-I-don’t" routine. Richard I-Love-My-Eyeliner-Albert is a must. Next, would be (and most likely, I think) is a FB on Walt and Murderer...eerrr I mean Michael.
I just said what everyone else has already said, but thats ok.
Saddly, I too thought that Shannon was going to get some Sawyer lovin' when I first saw Lost. The up-chuck factor went way up when she got to Sayid instead! She messed with his mojo

so that's why you didn't make it last night! i was wondering wtf! Ari was like, oh he can't make it, and i said, "Why. cuz of his new gadget?!" i totally called it. either way, you were missed :(
ok, i forgot how much i love this episode. amazing story, acting, everything. the airport scene, the coffin, the speech....amazing. Season 1 really was a magnificent season. we'll never have anything like it again.
if they were to show a flashback in the premiere, i would want it to be Libby. but since that's not possible, then Richard. And i'm always happy with a Ben or Locke flashback. even Rousseau would be cool.
ok, i know this is sooooo Monday, but i thought i'd post my top 5's since i missed out on all the fun.

Lauren, I Love the blue van. It totally saved Sayid. Ever wonder how the blue van got to the island? Maybe through the black box? Certainly not on the sub...
Posted by: Teresa Lynn | June 21, 2007 11:16 AM
Hurley saved Sayid and the boys. not the van. sorry, but that blue van was the main character of my least favorite, most anger-inducing episode of all time, and i therefore despise it! good question though! how did it get there???
Posted by: Lauren, the LOST Nazi | June 21, 2007 11:23 AM
Dharma had a whole dealers lot full of Blue Vans.
Posted by: Janelle | June 21, 2007 11:26 AM
Hey Lauren! Did you get a chance to look at that 'vintage Sawyer' picture on Jay's site?? He's decked out in a purple suit!!!!! Leaning against a orange background, no less!!!!
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 21, 2007 11:29 AM
Excellent spawn for conversation Lauren. What is your least favorite, anger-inducing episode?
Though the van would rank in the top, my least favorite is the Nicki/Paulo episode. I would have rather watched 45 minutes of Jack just standing naked in the jungle. Now if we could have Sawyer standing naked in the jungle for 45 minutes...that could be my favorite episode if if ever did happen.
Posted by: Tristan | June 21, 2007 11:31 AM
Least favorite would also have to be Nicki/Paolo. Really, WTF?
Posted by: cathead67 | June 21, 2007 11:43 AM
i actually didnt mind the van episode. the fact that it was used in two later episodes makes it much less sucky as well. at least the van was useful. it must be on-the-bandwagon day because i too found that the Nikki/Paolo episode was the worst for me. unless they find a way to tie them into a future episode, with them getting dug up or something, that will go down as the worst and most useless episode in Lost history.

Season two (two?) or one where Charlie had the wierd Jesus dreams and took Aaron into the water. The whole thing was stupid and didn't move the plot along at all. I hated the Nikki/Paulo ep, and at the time I wasn't thrilled with the blue van ep (I mean the battery wasn't dead, the gas wasn't evaporated and the tires weren't flat. Really?) However, just like the blue van redeemed itself later, I hope Nikki/Paulo have some greater meaning/added layer later.

Hi everyone! Hi LIT, where ya been?
Season 4, for me definitely flashbacks of Danielle, then Richard, eyeliner guy. How does he get to go back and forth between the real word and the island so much (hence the clean cut hair, eyeliner, nice clothes and briefcases all the time) to deal with the "corporations"?
I don't think I would like it if it were all flash forwards from now on, sorry I expect to be booed here, but I don't like that structure of story telling half way through this thing.
Janice, we do meet Aaron's father in season 1. He's not that exciting, I think the point was that Aaron isn't supposed to have a fatherly influence, only Claire's.
Lauren, are you talking about the episode when Hurley gets bored and they find the van, drink flat Dharma beer and drive it around in circles or the one with Ben's dad as your least favorite?
Posted by: Carly | June 21, 2007 12:03 PM
How about a Michail flashback? Maybe we'd understand how he became invincible.
Posted by: andrew | June 21, 2007 12:19 PM
I really liked the episode where they found the blue van and went drunk driving on the island. It was totally different but fun. Hurleys like "lets party"!
I saw the youtube video on Is Jack Him. Him being Jacob. Very good. The brianwashing video was pretty good too. Here is that link if anyone is interested.

Hey all! I'm with Lauren, I'd like it to start with Libby. I'm dying to know about her connection to Hurley, and why she was on the flight. I'd also agree that Rousseau's story would be interesting to see. Henry knew exactly who she was, even though she claimed not to have seen the Others in S1. Love the Sawyer pix!! I'd bet money he'd love to see that purple suit burned now!

TRACY TRACY TRACY!!!!! I totally love you for putting that up!! My side hurts from laughing so hard!!! SavemeJeebus that was freakin G.R.E.A.T!!!!

Of course, I had to completely botch the above link...What a 'tard. Here's the right one:

Ana - I woke my husband up last night laughing at that. There is a link for other recaps on the site - the Season 3 recap is pretty good too.
Posted by: Tracy | June 21, 2007 01:15 PM
Tracy: The "Jin was peaking Jinglish" was great, and "udders" OMG!!! The whole thing was fab!! Thanks so much....Its' gonna stay with me for the rest of the day. I'm gonna watch the s3 recap too...
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 21, 2007 01:20 PM
OMG!!!LMAO!!! That is hysterical!!! What's so ironic is that I grew up in Plainsboro and both my kids were born at the Hospital that's mentioned!! (the one from "House"....As she writes the "Princeton-Plainsborough Hospital") That is the funniest recap I've ever read, but I'm still totally loyal to Daniel!! You could really picture them saying what she's written with each picture!
Posted by: Kelly (Formerly Freckles) | June 21, 2007 01:23 PM
THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!
My favorites were "Crazy Uncle Patchy" and the toothless women! LOL!
Posted by: Janice (formerly Belle) | June 21, 2007 01:25 PM
---Then Benry is all like, writing in his diary and he's like "Dear Diary, The other kids made fun of my glasses today. I killed a bunny. I miss Mom. Love, Benji."---
OMG THAT SHIT IS TOO FUNNY!!

Or when ROSE tells off Jack....HA HA HA HAA HAAAAA!!!
I could totally picture it!

Hi Ana, Carly, Kelly (Formerly Freckles), Tristan (etc)!!!
Ana: WHAT vintage picture? where? gimme gimmee! what's Jay's site? i'm so outta the loop.
Tristan: i too would rather watch Sawyer naked in the jungle over anything else in the world. well, that would be second to raping him in the jungle.
Carly: the blue van episode was my least favorite only because it was a filler episode right after a huge episode that opened a box of brand new questions (surprise, surprise!). it was infuriating. i would have tolerated it if it was in Season 1. kinda like the golf episode.
Kelly (Formerly Freckles): Libby was robbed! so mad she got killed off cuz the backstory with her in the mental hospital was one of the greatest moments! i want to find out more!
that journal thing is HILARIOUS!!

ANA: That was a funny link. But I feel like an old lady casue I totally didn't understand almost half of those abrvs.
But it was very funny.
LAUREN: it is a great site (Jays Blog) Here's the link. It is futher down the page and the entry it's titled "whip it good"

LAUREN: Doesn't he look just delicious in purple?!
Posted by: Janice (formerly Belle) | June 21, 2007 02:51 PM
HEY DANIEL: Is your D-Link catastrophe all better now? Or have you caused bodily harm to any of D-Links employees and are in need of hiding? May I recommend a tiny island in the South Pacific...
Posted by: Janice (formerly Belle) | June 21, 2007 02:56 PM
Ana-I loved Henry's Dear Diary Letter! ANd I have to agree, Rose telling Jack off was a riot. I also love the comments about the Sea lesbians. Reminded me of Sea Monkeys! Too Funny!!!
Lauren- Libby was SO ROBBED!! The moment in that episode that I realized it was her in the mental institute, I think was one of my favorite scenes. it killed me that we never found out what her deal was. was she an undercover other? Dharma employee? Weirdo who ends up following Hurley after she found he won the lottery with the numbers??!! I need to know!
Posted by: Kelly (Formerly Freckles) | June 21, 2007 02:56 PM
LAUREN: Sorry, I'm late. Had to be productive today. Thanks HANNAH for providing the link:)Wahtcha think?!?!? I'm dying to know....If your outa the loop and we're all loopy...there's just no hope for any of us...:)
HANNAH: The abrvs. were a little tricky, I'm not fluent in text-anese either---but it was still funnnnyyy.
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 21, 2007 03:02 PM
Kelly: The diary was the best! "I miss mom.." It still gets me!!
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 21, 2007 03:05 PM
I agree with the Danielle or Richard flashback....or even a Desmond flashback if it would bring Libby back into the story. ANYBODY BUT JACK!!! God, I can't stand him!! If I have to watch him whine and cry all through season 4 I may vomit. In fact, I almost did when we got to the "Live Together, Die Alone" speech. UGH!
Posted by: Angel | June 21, 2007 03:12 PM
Lol...text-anese....I'm fluent either! I guess that goes along with Jinglish! I too was trying to be productive today. I figured during the Lost season, I'm completely useless on Thursdays, so I'd better use the recap/off season to get crap done. Like cakes....again.....I hate cake, have I said that before?? HATE CAKE!! And Bridezillas!!
Posted by: Kelly (Formerly Freckles) | June 21, 2007 03:13 PM
maybe u can make a bridezilla cake...
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 21, 2007 03:20 PM
HaHa!! I have!! For a shower! I'm sure you've seen them, 1/2 a Barbie sticking out of the top and Then I add a cake skirt and icing dress. Kind of creppy.....Barbie without legs....I had images of them hacking this thing to bits. Satisfying though!!
Posted by: Kelly (Formerly Freckles) | June 21, 2007 03:27 PM
Can't remember names, but I want to see a flashback one of these two Others: the guy with the thick eye lashes (who doesn't seem to age) or eye patch guy (who never seems to die).
Posted by: Laura | June 21, 2007 04:39 PM
Thanks for all the links guyzz! The recap was hilarious and the synchronized crash video was great.
I noticed the swimming thing and Charlie too..don't know what that was all about. Also when Claire asks Charlie when they're going to be rescued, they zoom in on his tattoo, "Living Is Easy With Eyes Closed" as he answers, "sooon." Something there but I don't know what.
And all the Alice in Wonderland connections; don't get that either.
I loved Hurley's line, "Dogs can find pot and bombs, maybe they can find water." LOL but the sentence should've started with "Doood".
I agree with the gang, flashback has to be Rousseau. Being there 16 years, her flashback could give us some island background too.
But, more than flashbacks, I'm hoping S4 starts with more Jacob...who, why, how.
I'm posting late, so I'm hoping you've recovered from your electronic gadget meltdown, Daniel! :-) Those really suck.
Posted by: Nannie | June 21, 2007 06:34 PM
I do believe that recap was the funniest thing I have read in my life - great link...
Ok, on the swimming - I think I read somewhere that Charlie didn't want to get the heroin wet and that is why he said "I DON'T swim" not "I CAN'T" - but that might be wrong.
I agree on the Rousseau flashback...
Posted by: Emmaleigh | June 22, 2007 06:06 AM
So yeah - my computer is KILLING me this week, killing me....and yeah I'm really late to the convo, I've been trying to post, but the damn machine keeps f-ing up. I'm feeling like Daniel these past two days - technology sucks sometimes and is completely frustrating!!
Anyways..so I've been screaming for a Danielle FB and an Alex FB would be quite informative too....I'd also like to know about Richard.
I watched the epi last night and can confirm that Charlie definitely says (twice in a row) "I don't swim"..quite interesting knowing how S3 ended, but maybe he's just not keen on swimming out that far and isn't a strong enough swimmer to save someone..or it's a writers goof?? which seems unlikely...but I must say I consider myself a decent swimmer and I'd be a little freaked if I had to save someone in the ocean...you have the waves, rip tides, and SHARKS!!
Ana - glad to see you're link-able *smile* and that link is too funny, my coworkers are now convinced I've lost my mind completely, since I'm laughing like a mad woman in front of my monitor...oh too funny.
That's all I gots for now
Hi to all and chat later!!!

KERIN: Glad to make you laugh during such difficult times!! "That" topic is a constant source of laughs/ickyness for my sisters and I...I often say the 'diagnosis' right before he walks in and we'll all bust up laughing!!
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 22, 2007 08:23 AM
Are there any other episodes with "Alice in Wonderland" themed titles?
Posted by: Lynne | June 22, 2007 09:05 AM
Ana: What are you and Kerin talking about above? Fill me in!
Posted by: Colleen | June 22, 2007 10:08 AM
I'd like to see a Richard flashback or a Locke or Henry Gale flashforward to whatever future we saw Jack and Kate in during the finale. All for the obvious reasons. Thanks Daniel for continuing to give us something "Lost" to read about each week. Jones'n in LA!
Posted by: MyNugget | June 22, 2007 10:46 AM
To answer Lynne's question the only other Alice in Wonderland themed title that I know of is the season Three season ender "Through the Looking Glass"...this is the name of another book by Lewis Carroll, which came after Alice in Wonderland...of course, in the case of Lost the title probably refers to the Looking Glass dharma station.
Posted by: Darcie | June 22, 2007 12:58 PM
LYNNE: There are also a handful of references to The Wizard of Oz. The balloon that "Henry Gale" was in, and there was an episode called "Man Behind the Curtain".
Posted by: Janice (formerly Belle) | June 22, 2007 01:59 PM
Colleen: it has to do with a post on my blog...
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 22, 2007 04:58 PM
KELLY: now you know where you can "find" me...
:)
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 22, 2007 05:16 PM
Emmaleigh: "...I read somewhere that Charlie didn't want to get the heroin wet..." That makes so much sense - so Charlie went from someone who would rather let someone drown than get his stash wet, to someone who would drown to rescue others. That is a great theory - thanks for sharing it!
BTW - I don't know if it was caused by my flurry of posts the other day, but I can no longer blog from work. :-(. I will try to keep up during the evening!
And are ANY of you young whippersnappers going to translate that hilarious synopsis for us old fogeys? Thanks!
Posted by: Nan | June 22, 2007 05:31 PM
NAN: "whippersnappers" LOL!!! I understood most of it, but my nephew *you know which one!!* is translating from text-anese to English for me, just in case i missed anything!!
Posted by: Ana (the original) | June 22, 2007 06:21 PM
Lynn,
There's the title of this episode, White Rabbit, **some spoiler alerts** Benry's thing with white rabbits (as a child and as an adult, if I remember correctly), and then there's the Through the Looking Glass title. I don't know if there's a connection or not, it just made me think and now I can't stop trying to figure it out. I know very little about Alice in Wonderland so that makes it more confusing. I do know that she chases a rabbit (that isn't really there) drinks something, and then shrinks; thus changing. Jack chases his father (who may or may not really be there), finds the water; thus changes, becoming a hero which his dad said he couldn't be. There's more, like she goes through the looking glass and everything is nonsensical; time runs backwards, blah blah blah. Everything being nonsensical kinda fits in with Charlie deciding to die in order to save others; OR (Daniel close your eyes) if time IS running backwards, it's possible that Desmond's vision can be reversed and Charlie isn't really dead.
I may be totally reading more into it than there is, if so sorry to confuse you guys.
I've been a lifetime fan of the Wizard of Oz and now have 5 grandkids who are too, and I noticed the title connection but didn't see any content connection. It's funny how we each see the same program but hone in on different tidbits of info.
I love the "Charlie didn't want to get his heroin wet" explanation. That's one thing that makes sense because later **small spoiler alert**he lists the day his dad taught him to swim as one of his favorite days. The other explanation is the writers just blew it on that one.
I also LOVED the Sawyer video and if there's one out there with Hurley saying, "Dood" I would "almost" pay to see that one!!
Hi NAN, I'm Nannie - nice to meet you!! My grandkids call me Nannie, is it the same with you or is that your name?
Posted by: Nannie | June 22, 2007 06:57 PM
Hi Nannie! Neither - "Nan" is a shortened version of my real name, which is spelled unusually enough that my co-workers - who know how I am about Lost - might have suspected that I was spending more time blogging than working! I started using it on TMZ - which I know that some of them frequent - and it followed me over here, and then onto myspace. So I have become a split personality!
Posted by: Nan | June 23, 2007 09:00 AM
NAN,
ahhahhahah hiding out, huh? That's funny! I noticed on my last post that I said I have 5 grandchildren. I don't know if that was a typo or wishful thinking. I have 4 grandchildren. LOL I'm sooooo confused.
I just love this site. Of course I love talking about Lost, but I especially love how each of us seem to notice different things. It makes this "ongoing conversation" so fun!. Thank you so much for providing this, Daniel.

Terribly sorry to have gotten to this episode so late in the week. Wednesday night was spent at a neighborhood meeting about a rowdy medical cannabis club that was up for renewal by the city. This is a uniquely San Francisco dilemma. The club was the scene of armed robberies, "patients" selling "medicine" to high school kids just outside, smoke wafting onto the street, pit bulls, loitering, littering, a brawl or two, and much more. So, of course, the city granted them a permit to remain in operation.
And speaking of "White Rabbit" -- any program that has a literal cliffhanger scene is fine with me. I'm starting to get all the Sixties musical references - "White Rabbit" (Jefferson Airplane) and "Strawberry Fields Forever" (Beatles, "Living is easy with eyes closed"). Next week: Eric Burdon and the Animals.
For me, a high point was seeing Veronica Hamel. She's almost 64 now, but she burned up the screen back in the Eighties as Joyce Davenport on "Hill Street Blues."
Liked the empty casket, although I knew it was coming. Few images are creepier than the sight of dolls strewn about.
Like son, like father: I've never been in a fight either. But I did buy an Apple TV, rather than the D-Link DSM-510 (although I may be wrong on the model number).
Posted by: Allen | June 24, 2007 08:27 PM
Hi Everyone,
I would love to see a flashback on Rousseau and I'd also like to see a flashfoward on Walt.
Does anyone else remember when Charlie and Desmond were figuring out who would go down to the looking glass, that Charlie said something like "I used to be a swimming champ and can hold my breath for 2 minutes"?
Great posts everyone, I especially enjoy reading posts by me and ana the original.
Have a great day everyone, Adele
