Solitary

I'm starting this a little late tonight and I'm just thrilled to be writing about something other than Lindsay Lohan -- so let's just get right to it, shall we?
Lost
00:00 -- Nothing takes your mind of your long lost love like finding a power cable in the sand of the island you're stranded on.

00:01 -- As Sayid follows the cable into the forest, it occurs to me how long it took someone to follow that cable the other way.

00:03 -- One time, just one time, I'd like to slyly avoid trip wire. Looks fun.
00:04 -- What I don't want though is to hang upside down from a tree.

00:05 -- I just noticed "Guest Starring: William Mapother" in the credits. William Mapother is Tom Cruise's cousin. We know him as Ethan...

00:07 -- The torturer becomes the torturee ...

00:08 -- ... and then the torturer again.

00:09 -- Love at first torturer site. (Yes, I am enjoying the word torturer and all it's variations)

00:10 -- Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it's Ethan! Sorry, just my usual reaction.

00:11 -- "Whoa, dude." --- Hurley. We got both Hurley catchphrases at once. My head might explode.

00:12 -- "Sixteen years ... has it really been that long." -- Rousseau.

00:13 -- As Rousseau and Sayid get acquainted, one thought keeps going through my mind: What would the sex between these two be like? I am going to go with painful. Very, very painful.

00:14 -- Nadia is sexier in person than she is in her picture.

00:17 -- How did Rousseau not hear the plane crash? Seems like it would have been -- damn, what's the word I am looking for here? -- really, really LOUD.

00:18 -- Sayid tells Rousseau that Nadia is dead, but something tells me he'll see her again -- shit, Locke and Charlie did.

00:19 -- "Welcome to the first, and hopefully last, Island Open." -- Hurley.
Lost
00:21 -- If I had to pick someone to torture someone for me, I'd still go with Sayid.

00:23 -- "My name is Danielle." -- Rousseau.

00:25 -- "The Others ... I hear them out in the jungle. They whisper." -- Rousseau. Ah, them.

00:27 -- Sayid brings Nadia some food and it's kind of becoming unclear who is torturing who.

00:29 -- "There's no such thing as monsters." -- Rousseau. Um, on this island, yeah there is.

00:30 -- Nadia ain't looking too hot these days.

00:31 -- On his way out the door, Sayid grabs maps, a gun ... whatever he can find. He's always been the smartest of the bunch.

00:34 -- Sayid sure knows how to fake a prison break.

00:37 -- "You'll find me in the next life, if not in this one." -- Sayid. I could never pull that line off.

00:39 -- It's been three years and we still don't know if Rousseau's "sickness" is real or not.

00:40 -- Putting on weeds? You got to be kidding me.

00:41 -- Welcome to "Knife Throwing." I'm your host, John Locke. This week on the show, throwing knives against a tree for fun -- I'll show you how.

00:42 --
Male Voice- "Just let him get out of here"
Male Voice- "He's seen too much already"
Male Voice- "What if he tells?"
Female Voice - "Could just speak to him"
Male Voice- "No"

Lost
And so the mythology of the island begins.

That's really all there is to take away from this episode. Words and phrases that would come to mean so much, like "The Others."

I have to say, as I re-watch the first season, it's the mythology of it all that I miss the most (and of course, the man behind the bulk of it, Henry Gale). While these episodes are good, and there is plenty to watch, I miss what "Lost" eventually evolved into. Obviously you can't have season 2 without season 1 and so on, but this show builds and builds and builds so much that in a way every show is better than the one before it (except for the Nikki and Paulo one and the one with the van).

Anyway, I am rambling a bit so let me leave you with this quesion: which season of "Lost" do you think was best?

I liked the last season Daniel, and I can hardly wait til January or is it February. Loved your comments. Thanks.

Oh Daniel, you poor thing!!! It must be insane there! I wouldn't be shocked if all you dream and think about right now is LiLo's mugshot!!! I can only imagine how it'll be there if (ok, when!) Britney has her babies taken away and she's put on suicide watch! ={

So, yeah, what I kept thinking about while watching this episode is what would I have thought, wacthing it the first time around, without knowing what has happened in the past few seasons??? I mean, things just made SO much sense to me but how crazy would I have thought Rousseau was? Why on earth was there a cable wire not only on the beach BUT going INTO the water!? I mean, COME ON!!! But, it all makes sense now....

To tell you the truth, I'm kind of glad I'm watching season 1 with knowing the background of both seasons 2 & 3........But I also see that I'm missing out on what everyone else felt watching it when it first aired and not knowing SH*T!

I must say that I have enjoyed all the season (with all the highs & lows) But I must say that season 2 was my favorite! It's when I got into it and we REALLY found out a lot!

And OH! Thank you for posting what was whispered in the end!!! Even with my TV volume at 10 notches away from "loud as hell", I still couldn't hear it! Also, the comment:
"00:13 -- As Rousseau and Sayid get acquainted, one thought keeps going through my mind: What would the sex between these two be like? I am going to go with painful. Very, very painful."-- SO random yet SO good! =}

Well, best of luck "in the trenches" and hopefully this comment was ok for Rich (since my comments seem to be so dull and pointless in his opinion)

Take care and until next time,

me! =)

PS- Hey! Thanks for the info on "William Mapother".....I'll put that in the back of my mind and who knows? I may need it when I apply and hopefully go on next year's "World Series of Pop Culture"! (Seriously, I'm SO going to try out! I would ROCK!!) bye!

the van episode was great! all things come full circle my friend. how would it have been if a blue van came out of nowhere in the season finale? and it building up the character of Ben's father? the van episode was very essential.

I don't have a favorite season, but I do have a favorite episode. And that is....Through the Looking Glass. I was ecstatic when I saw that it was nominated for a few Emmys.

The obvious answer would be Season 1, since it was the first, set the groundwork for everything else, and won the Emmy. (See Lost Q&A for my opinion on the Emmys, tho).

Then there is the knee-jerk reaction to say season 3, since we got Jacob, Juliet, and hot Sawyer/Kate action.

Personally, I think season 2, because of the saga of the Tailies, Bernard and Rose, Michael's treachory, Desmond, and the introduction of both Eko and Benry. Season 2 is where we really got introduced to the mythology.

BTW, I want to see Sayid hook up again, but Danielle? Maybe next season there is an Other he can get a little friendly with.

Daniel,

What, no grade for this week's episode? Lindsay's got you that fried, huh?

Rich

I think Season 1 and the last 1/2 of Season 3 were the best. Season 1 for the character interaction and development and the last 1/2 of Season 3 for the action! And was Locke cool with that knife throwing or what? It's a show about Sayid, and yet John steals the show again. Sayid does run a very close 2nd in coolness, though. And it's the first time we hear the others. It's weird to watch it now knowing what will happen later on.

It's hard to say which season I like the best. It keeps building on itself so each season is better and better to me only because I know more about the island. I guess I would have to go with season 3 then.

This episode (Solitary) was fun to watch because Sayid finds the cable, which we now know so much more about. Also, hearing Rouseau's explanation about how she got there and "the others" was interesting from a new perspective.

Rich has got a point, Daniel! No grade?

Loved the blog today Daniel- I think Sayid and Danielle have the same dynamic as Benry and Locke have on screen together. First season is my favorite. I felt the first time I watched it that I was watching a smart kind of horror/mystery. Season 2 and 3 have kind of lost that edge a little with the more people they add to it and the more we find out about the people. Not that I don't want to know what all the mysteries of the island are....

MILD SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASON 4

I found this piece in an article about ABC programming- even though Daniel already posted about Harold coming back- I thought it was interesting about the upcoming season....

-Harold Perrineau will return to Lost. (Steve)McPherson (President of ABC Entertainment) said it was his error to present six episodes about the Others separately last fall. At midseason, the episodes will air in one group and focus on the show's core characters. In the final scene last season, Lost gave a glimpse of the characters' lives away from the island.

What does that mean for the show's future? "You will not be isolated to flash-forwards, but you will have flash-forwards," McPherson said. "We now know the end of the series isn't just a boat showing up and they get off the island."-

More flash forwards, huh? I almost don't want to know, ya' know?

I don't know how to put a link up so I hope this works...This might give you a chuckle or two...

What really happens in the Lost writers meetings...

Totally cute and funny Amber. Thanks!

Here is the first Comic-Con LOST reference I have seen so far today.

I agree cathead67- I DO NOT want to see flash forwards. I knew once they introduced the flash forward at the season finale that we would be seeing more of them, and now that article Janelle posted above about the Q and A at the Comic-Con just confirms it. AARRGGHH!!

Two blog summaries of what Cuse and Lindelof said at Comic-Con:

Don't look if you don't want to know what's in store for S4. But it's going to be hard to keep your head in the sand until February. Much to discuss, fellow Losties! I suggest we formulate some pointed questions for Daniel's next LDQ&A! ;-)

Hey Daniel and Lost gang,

You referenced that Locke and Charlie have interaction with Nadia. Now I remember the scene with Charlie when she is getting mugged, but I don't remember the scene with Locke and Nadia, please someone refresh my memory. I still love Season One, Season Two is good as well. Thanks and have a nice weekend!
