L.D.Q.A. -- 8/16

Hey now ...

Q: When the show returns next year, who do you think will be the first to die and why?  My vote is on Juliet for turning against Ben and The Others. -- Michelle

A: No way Juliet dies, can’t see it happening. We know it can’t be Jack or Kate and they probably didn’t bring Michael back to kill him off right away. I’ve said for awhile now I think Sawyer is expendable, but I don’t think they’d do that in the premiere. Let’s see what storylines they set up in the premiere before we start killing people off.

Q: What do you think about Drew Carey being the new host of "The Price Is Right"?  -- Aly

A: Seems like a weird combination. I don't think of Drew as a "host" type, but he's so damn funny I think it could work.

Sort of funny story about "The Drew Carey Show." I had never seen an episode until about five years ago. Working in a Warner Brothers building, one of the channels on our TV was the Warner Brothers feed of its syndicated shows -- meaning every day at 10:00AM we got an hour of "Friends” and an hour of “Drew.” Let me tell you, that show is damn funny. In the pantheon of shows (I am talking individual episodes of TV here), you can’t beat the episode of Drew that lampooned the fact the show never got nominated for an Emmy.

While I am on THAT topic – the greatest episode of television I ever watched was the lucid dreaming episode of “Ed.” In the show, Ed learned about the concept of lucid dreaming – which, as I remember, was the ability to control what happened in your dreams. Anyway, about 10 minutes in, Ed goes to sleep and the rest of the episode is him, in his dream, working out his love life with the other characters on the show, Albert Einstein and … Taye Diggs. The real Taye Diggs, playing himself. I don’t think the show is out on DVD, but if you can find this episode, I highly recommend watching it.

Whew. Moving on …

Q: Obviously, they aren't going to explain every single mystery when they end the show.  Some things will just be left to the imagination. What is the ONE thing that you absolutely just HAVE to know before the finale or DURING the finale? Also, what is the ONE thing that you absolutely want to remain a mystery when the show ends??? That something that people will continue to talk about forever. -- Nannie

A: I am going to choose not to answer either of those questions, but instead make a parallel between this show and another of my favs that your question made me thing of:

I am as a big a fan of “Alias” as there was. The first two seasons of the show rank up there on my all-time list without hesitation. Now, if you were a fan of the show you know the big mystery that stretched out over five years was what the hell Rambaldi was up to. I’ve seen every episode of “Alias” and re-watched most of them – even I don’t know what the f**k that was all about; some kind of weapon or something. By the end of the show, it was all secondary.

Now, do I think “Lost” will ignore some of the main questions the show has raised? Eh, maybe. But I am worried that we’ll get left hanging on a few things that will slowly go by the wayside over the next three seasons.

Oh, I got it now – I never want to know about the four-toed statue. I hope that never comes up again.

(Another side note: watch the movie “Way of the Gun” and see how the characters all talk about “what happened in Baltimore.” You know it’s something bad, but they never tell you what it was. Point being, sometimes you don’t need to know what something is as much as you need to know what it represents. Like in “Lost” – if I don’t find out about the whispers on the island, for example, does it really matter? It’s just there to establish that strange things are happening there.)

Q: What do you think Henry's reaction to Michael's return will be? Will he try to cover up the fact he manipulated Michael into betraying and ultimately killing the Losties? And what kind of punishment will Michael get for killing Libby and Ana Lucia and leaving the island? A dose of good old fashioned Iranian torture? -- Jenn

A: Pretty sure you mean Iraqi, but whatever.

Um, here’s my first reaction – how do we know which side Michael will be on? Who knows where he went, who he was with or what happened to him. Like you said, the Losties probably won’t welcome him back with open arms, so maybe he drank the Others Kool-Aid and he’ll be on their side now.

Hey all

I don't want to know what the "whispering" is all about, but I do want to know WHO is doing the whispering, if that makes sense. I don't need to know where the heck the Black Rock came from, or what the "disease" was that made Rousseau decide to kill everyone off. I DO want some kind of explanation on the three toed statute, even if its not completely spelled out but more implied. Like we find out the island is home to ancient race of people -- or is the original Eden or Atlantis or home of the Amazons, which would KIND of explain the statue.

Michael will come back in an attempt to redeem himself/save his friends. He got his son off the island, to somewhere safe, and now he is coming back to kick some Other butt. If he shows the Losties that he is sincere, or comes back with word from the outside world, they will probably welcome him back as long as it means getting out of there.

Will Drew Carey seem as creepy as Bob Barker? And when the contestants kiss him on the cheek, will he kiss back?

I don't think the losties will welcome Michael back into the fold. At least not easily. That betrayal will likely not be forgotten, or forgiven. Besides... my bet (at this moment, try me again later and my opinion may change! ^..^ ) is on Michael being the one in the coffin during that famous flash foward. As you recall, Kate was shocked that Jack would even suggest she might attend that funeral. Because of Michael's betrayal - that reaction fits.

What mystery do I not "need" solved? Um... let me think... still thinking... Um NO! I want to know it all!! I detest having to wait until February for a new episode, so at this point - I want it all! Ha.

Ah.... Ed. I loved that show.

One fun thing about the Drew Carey/Price Is Right thing: The game show studio adjoins Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show set. These old Drew Carey show buddies are sure to get into some good-natured pranksmanship. Ferguson frequently poked fun at Bob Barker, and had the old guy on as a guest several times. I expect the Scotsman will take full advantage of his chubby Cleveland neighbor moving in next door.

Apropos of nothing: Ferguson's novel, "Between the Bridge and the River," is a rollicking good read. He's a smart and funny guy.

Also apropos of nothing: I've heard Carey is going to continue Barker's signature "Spay and neuter your pets" tagline. Good for him! Although I don't know how he's going to do it with a straight face, to be honest.

They're doing some Lost tour thing on ebay to raise money. Thought someone here might be interested.

Oh and I'm with Michele, I want to know everything...I hate having things open ended. TELL ME EVERYTHING!!!!

I've never seen the Drew Carey show, but I guess I'm gonna have to check it out.

I wanna know, who Adam and Eve are... And I don't want to know about the foot.

Lets see, I don't want to see anyone die just yet, but maybe 'shot at' would be really good!

"HI LIT!" Long-time-no-see!

Hmmm...I could let the foot thing go too, but I really want to know more about Libby. When is Hurley gonna realize where he knows her from?!?

About Walt...I think Michael took 'Walt' off the island but not the REAL Walt. It was some kind of body double a la "everyone has a twin out there somewhere". Watch the clip about the bunnies if you get where I'm going with this...

Hello long-LOST friends! Phew, I have been away a long time. I was taking a class all summer that was consuming all my quality blog-time. (Bastards!) I wasn't even able to keep up with the Season 1 review, but I popped online here occasionally to see what was going on. Admittedly, I feel a little LOST now. I forgot so much of what happened. Now that the class is over, I am hoping to do some serious Season 1 watching.

As for the Q & A comments this week: I loved Ed, that was such a great show. The Drew Carey Show I only watched now and then, but it had its moments. I am completely in love with Craig Ferguson, however! I loved the movie Saving Grace. Did anyone see it? Thanks, Vermonter, for the info on his book. I will have to check it out. And, I am with the rest of you that want to know EVERYTHING about the LOST mysteries! Wait, on second thought, I could live without knowing more about Jack's tattoo if it saves us from having to live through another Bai Ling debacle.

Great to be back!
Widsl

Hi everyone! LIT it's been a long long time! Well I hope that LOST does answer everything because I just don't think that I can live with more unanswered questions, like last night on John From Cincinnati. Anyone see that finale? I have more questions now then halfway through the season! Aagh. Anyway, I have two questions for you guys that I don't think have been talked about here: Has anyone seen the ads for a new HBO show that the woman who plays Penny is going to be in? (Forgive me I can't remember her real name!) Do you think that means anything as far as her character in Lost? Also, I saw a promo once, and have not seen again, that Terry O'Quinn is going to be on another ABC show in the fall??? What? Do you think that is just a side job? It would completely interfere with Lost though, don't you think?

OOhhh, Carly don't get me started on John from Cin (sin?). Last night, I must have gone back and replayed every thing he said. And I still don't get it. My husband told me that the rumors have already started on cancelling John because too many people are complaining about too many questions and not enough answers. Its too vague, he said. Sound familiar!?
I did hear John say at the very last moment something about Cass and Kai being Mothers. This episode being the first time he mentions anything about Mothers.

On a side note for those of us that are hardcore DEADWOOD fans, there was so much of Deadwood in this last episode that if I didn't know any better, it made me feel like the producers just made this show to get HBO back for cancelling Deadwood. I don't know just a hunch.

I loved Deadwood too and I hated how it ended so forced and I just felt cheated. In Cin, the dialogue is almost exactly the same and so it just takes away from Deadwood's originality. What I mean is, I don't know why he had to copy that style when Cin, on it's own was a perfectly unique idea and was written well. I understand the producer's concept of not having all the questions answered as part of one's role in the universe, etc., but I just don't know if that is enough of reason to end it like that. I didn't think they could make another season but I guess with the 9-11-14 thing and the Mother thing they wanted to try to get HBO to extend it???

First of all, I do NOT agree that Sawyer is expendible. And no, it's not just because he is hot, hot, hot! That man just has too many demons to battle..especially now that he has killed the "real" Sawyer. I don't really think he will be one of the people that are still standing at the end (I hope I'm wrong) but they can still get a lot of use out of that character. Plus, there is still the whole thing of the little girl off island. If and when they do kill him, they will have to build it up to where everybody loves him so that it would be heartbreaking to the other characters and not just the women watching....OR...they have to work it so that everybody HATES him again so that he can redeem himself right before he dies.

What mysteries do I not care about? I don't really care about the foot, the black rock...and I REALLY don't care what ends up happening to Jack (big surprise huh?). AND..if solving the mystery completely means that the smoke monster would cease to exist on the island then I don't want to know the whole answer. I would like the series to end knowing that old Smokey is still roaming around on the island and with the final scene being a shot of Locke's back as he walks back into the jungle to stay.

Whoa, what's with everyone writing a book for comments all of a sudden? lol

The foot can go, I want to know about the black smoke...if u watch the episode where Mr. Eko is confronted with it but it doesn't do anything to him, you will see FACES in the smoke. I had to play it back several times but i'm almost 100% sure it was faces. Prove me wrong people...prove me wrong. I bet the smoke are people's souls...once it gets u, u become the smoke.

Parallel people...Diane, I think you might be on to something.

on a side note, ever since I watched the Dharma clip...I've been seeing bunnies, I think I've now become afraid of them. Damn u Lost!

And then, I post a book comment too. haha

Maria, which episode is that with Mr. Eko and the smoke monster? I want to check that out!

Maria, which episode is that with Mr. Eko and the smoke monster? I want to check that out!

Never mind I just saw it on you tube. Pretty cool.

Carly, (or anyone!)
I don't get that 9-11-14, what the heck could it mean?!

I don't care about the statue either, but I want to know more about Smokey and Jacob. But I kinda want Smokey to keep on existing too, and hang out with John on the island forever (thanks for that, Angel)! Not all mysteries need to be solved. That's what's so cool about Lost -- there's so many mysteries they couldn't possibly have time to reveal them all.

Ok, i just found out that John from Cin was canceled (STUPID HBO) and I found out what 9-11-14 means. So that's the end of that...back to LOST!!

Now that I think about it... I want to know everything!! I'm on board with SUS and MICHELE. This whole thing about keeping things a mystery is over-rated. I wanted everything to end with the answers so that I'm not wondering "what-if" for the rest of my life!

Hey everyone. Well I don't want to invest 6 or 7 years of my life to one television show and not get ALL the answers. I want them ALL answered!!

I want to know about the whispers, the black smoke, the island's healing properties, Jacob, Adam and Eve, the 4 toed statue, the "pirate" ship, all the stations, all the experiments and why. Where is the island located, the found oceanic plane in the trench with supposedly all the passengers- HOW?

Richard and why he hasn't aged, why do all the Lostie people have some connections to each other- it ALL CANT be a coincidence. Henry's magic box, Danielle's people and sickness, why dead people do not stay dead- I mean why does the island choose some to live and not die while others appear to die.

Who is John Locke really, what happened to Annie, Who or what Walt really is, Who or what Aaron really is, Penny and Desmond- finish their story line, why women who get pregnant on the island die- why???

The numbers- why the numbers. And so forth and so one.

I WANT ALL THE ANSWERS! But I betcha I won't get them all.

Yes, I agree, what's with all the connections of the Losties before they arrived on the island? That can't be a coincidence...but HOW do that happen? Or WHO brought them together? MUST KNOW THIS! =)

How about this for a BASIC question we've got to have answered: Why do things crash or get shipwrecked on the Island? And a corollary: Why isn't the Island mapped in this Google Earth world, visible and knowable to the rest of the planet?

Also, the aging thing: I want Walt back, and I want our clever writers to script an explanation for why HE'S aged when others haven't.

Hurley, the numbers, and Hurley's buddies back in the loony bin (real--Libby, and imagined--the Evan Handler guy): Let's gets some answers here. Hurley is gripped by the sense that he's bad luck, that his winning the lottery has rained death and destruction on everyone around him. I would love to see HIM become the ultimate hero here, and get the Losties off the Island. Was Hurley's comic-but-effective VW van beach rescue a foreshadowing of bigger things to come?

Damnit yes I did mean Iraqi! Goes to show you one should not send in questions while participating in a heated discussion about the Middle East. *hangs head*

I don't know what they are going to do with Walt. He's aged a bit and since they haven't been on the island that long - they'll have to recast or figure out how to explain how he's aged a few years in what? a month?

I have to know about the black smoke.

They haven't announced that Malcom (Walt) is coming back, right, just Micheal? That is why I think Michael is coming back to rescue his friends -- we have a convienent excuse on why his son isn't with him.

Ya'all have me remembering stuff now that I forgot all about. Now I want more answers than I did originally! This whole waiting until 2008 thing sucks!

Howdy everyone!

I think I have to know who Libby was- Was she an other? Was she crazy, pychic, or maybe had multi-personalities? That drives me crazy to think she died before we could get those answers and it may be one of those mysteries that never gets solved.

A mystery I don't want solved...hmmm...I think I want them all explained at least a little but if I had to choose probably the healing properties of the island...I mean we know the island is special- why explain it?

Have a good day everyone!
Amber

I couldn't get into John from Cin- what was everyone so worked up about (the characters I mean)? Yelling, talking just to talk, long monologs, and for what? I know I am late to the discussion and am off topic but any hints on how to clean a CD? My Season 2 has some sort of spray on it that won't come off with water alone? Ideas? And I need everything answered, everything!

Jen

Check your local library. Since most libraries carry DVDs, many of them have a machine they can run it through to clean it.
