Fall Previews: "Bionic Woman" and "Chuck"

I've been slacking a little bit on my Fall previews, so I figure I owe you at least two.

"Bionic Woman"

Along with "Pushing Daisies," this is the show I heard the most hype about. With a show like this, I am not so much judging the actual pilot itself, but more on how good a job they do on setting up the future of the show. On this point, I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't want to give too much away, but there are several good plots set in motion by the pilot -- the best of which is a second bionic woman who is set up as an enemy for Jamie Sommers, the main character. Any time two women fight, I am on board.

Worth noting: Jason Smilovic is a writer/exec. producer on the show. He held the same post on the criminally-underrated show "Kidnapped," wrote the movie "Lucky Number Slevin" (which was surprisingly good) and was a writer on the short-lived ABC show "Karen Sisco." Long story short, I have faith in the guy and thus have faith in the show.

"Chuck"

Computer nerd accidentally gets all of the government's secrets uploaded into his brain. How can this not be good?

The pilot was quite entertaining and they set up just enough of a story for the show to have a legit future (don't miss the last few seconds), though I wonder if it will all into the pattern of "a secret a week" kind of a thing. At the least, the show will be enjoyable -- though I don't see a lot of "Oh my God did you see 'Chuck' last night?" in my future.

Worth nothing: Josh Schwartz is a writer/exec. producer on the show. Schwartz, of course, is best known for creating "The O.C." I imagine Schwartz will have learned his lessons from that one -- don't make an entire season one long downer! -- and that "Chuck" will keep things very light.

It's hard to believe the new shows are starting soon. Where has the summer gone?

Daniel, I've missed you updating your blog on Mondays. Glad to see you back today. I thought maybe you have been tied up with TMZ being on TV. Do you have any part in that? Oh btw, did you write the little article about Amy Winehouse the other day on TMZ, you mentioned on myspace you were obsessed with her....No No No. :)

I'm glad you liked Bionic Woman, I can't wait for the new fall season.

Speaking of TMZ on TV... Daniel are you going to be on TV? I saw the preview and I was looking for you.

Daniel

Appreciate the recaps on the new shows. I am a little leery of getting too involved in shows this year (I can only follow so many blogs). Seems like there is a lot of very sci-fi slanted shows this year, which doesn't sound good for those of us who appreciate sci-fi, as opposed to the huddled masses.

Could you throw in, if you have it, the timeslots for the shows, and maybe what it's up against? Gotta pick and choose -- when LOST, VM and Bones were all on at the same time two seasons ago, I almost blew up my VCR (no, no DVR yet) and thank God the local WB replayed VM later in the week.

I hope Katie Sackoff makes as good as a baddie as she does a hero, and it's nice seeing her branch out. Big Question, is Lindsey Waggoner doing any cameos and does a $6 Billion (damn inflation) man show up in her future.

6 Billion Dollar Man! That's funny!!!

I miss Veronica Mars, sigh.

Where has the summer gone? To your mom's house.

Believe it or not, I don't think I have enough TiVo memory to record everything I want to watch. I'm gonna have to look into getting another TiVo on my other tv.

I was already excited about Bionic Woman, but I wasn't really thinking about watching Chuck.. Now I just might check it out. It sounds pretty good.
