LDQA MIA

Here's the deal ...

I planned on working on it Sunday, but I called into work.

I planned on working on it Monday, but I got sucked into finishing season 3 of "BSG."

I planned on working on it Tuesday, but as I literally sat down to write it, I got called into work again.

I am cursed.

Barring an "American Idol" being rushed to the ER, I am plowing through it tonight. Honestly, it's my favorite thing to write and I hate letting questions sit there for a month. I plan on unleashing the biggest, baddest LDQA I have ever done.

In fact, I need your help with the first question ...

Daniel,

I am going to graduate from High School this May, and would like to have the quote under my senior picture be associated with LOST.  I'd love your advice as to what LOST quote I should use.  The quote doesn't have to have anything to do with high school - heck, it doesn't even have to have anything to do with me for that matter.  My goal with this is for someone years from now to see the quote in my yearbook and think, "This kid must have been a fan of LOST".

Here are the lines I'm considering now, but I am open to yours (and your reader's) suggestions.

My favorite quotes so far, in descending order:

10)  "Actually, we're not quite in Portland."
9) "Picture a box. You know something about boxes, don't you, John? What if I told you that somewhere on this island there is a very large box, and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it -- when you opened that box, there it would be. What would you say about that John?"
8) "There is no curse. You make your own luck."
7) "Welcome to the wonderful world of not knowing what the hell is going on."
6) "Guys, where are we?"
5)  "I've made the biggest mistake of my life. And the worst part is I am pretty sure I made it before."  (By the way, this is a line from Desmond in last year's "Flashes Before Your Eyes".  Kind of has a whole new meaning now, huh?)
4)  "He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us."
3)  "I want you to bring me the man from Tallahassee."
2)  "Same way I get anyone to do anything. I find out what he's emotionally invested it and then I exploit it."

And here's the quote I'm leaning towards using now.  I just think this would be so cool.......

1)  "If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant".

What do you think?  Are there any more you recommend?

Thanks,
Rich

That's a great question! I would vote for #9 - I think that has been my biggest WTF?!?!?! moment so far. But #5 does bring all new meaning.

Happy Graduating!

I'd definately go with
7) "Welcome to the wonderful world of not knowing what the hell is going on."
i mean graduating high school even ties into it! i'm 23 and i don't know what the hells going on in this world, and i'm not even on a crazy magical island

OK, I love the one that Rich is leaning toward (his #1). I also really like #9 and #2. Any of those would be great and I think that any Lost fan would recognize those lines for years to come.

I too think number 7 would be very appropriate for a yearbook quote but I think your number 1 would be great as well!

My favorites are #7 and #1, but I think I am leaning towards #1 more.

I would definitely go with number 7. If not that one, then number 6.

#7 if the best and most easily identifiable with the show.

It's got to have something with "brutha" in it!!!!!!!

Absolutely #7...although #1 is close runner-up.

Two players, Two Sides. One is light, one is dark.

From Locke to Walt when they're playing backgammon....I still think this is the overlying them in all of Lost.

Sorry, I meant THEME, no them :)

i know some of these are morbid but my favs are:

locke: "don't tell me what i can't do!"

hurly: "dude, you have some artz on you"

rousseau: "you've only got 3 choices: run, hide...or die"

desmond: "good luck brother..see you in another life, yeah?

eko: "do not mistake coincidence for fate"

sawyer: doctor playing golf? whoo boy howdie, now ive heard everything, whats next? cop eating a doughnut?

I also like #7 -"Welcome to the wonderful world of not knowing what the hell is going on."

It was said by Kate in Season 2's "Left Behind" ( http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Left_Behind ).
Daniel also included that quote in his recap last year ( http://thelostdiary.com/blog/2007/04/left_behind.html ).

Wow Tara, I really like that alot!

Hope I'm not interrupting. You 2 arguing over who's your favorite other?

Dr. Marvin Candle: On behalf of the DeGroots, Alvar Hanso, and all of us at the DHARMA Initiative, thank you... Namaste... and... good luck...

I really like number 1, with 7 as my second choice. Number 7, to me, will not register with some as being a LOST quote, but it is more appropriate for a senior quote, in my opinion. But number 1 definitely screams "I'm a LOST fan"

I vote for 7 first and then 1

"Good Luck Brutha see you in another life is a good one too."

My favorite quote this season is - "Dude we knew that like forever ago."

Whatever the quote you use, be sure to sign off with NAMASTE!

"if we can't live together, we're going to die alone."

I also like #4...but if you want people to just see it & know it's LOST then #1 is the best one. A lot has been said on this show but that phrase is memorable.

#1 is awesome, so is #9.

If you are really having a hard time deciding, you could just go with "WAAAAAAAALT" by Michael or "I am sucky and piss everyone off all the time" by Juliet. I cant be certain of the second one, I am merely paraphrasing.

I first thought it should be #6. That's something that immediately identifies with LOST. But it might also be generic enough that many will just dismiss it as quirky.

Gotta be #1

Or, you can quote Sawyer, "son of a bitch!"

my vote is def for #1 and #10. not only are they completely esoteric, but just plain badass.

Rich - I love your #1 pick, the others are good, but years later probably wouldn't be remembered as a Lost quote.

I also like the suggested -

If we can't live together, we're gonna die alone.

and

Dude, you got some Artz on you.

Definitely #1!

Have to go with #1 if the intention is that people know you are a lost fan... To be really out there, where Lost fans would know and other people would go WTF, you could try "Not Penny's Boat"

ooooohhh, "not penny's boat"....that's a good one.

"we gotta go back"

i say #5, no reason, just like it

You did the right thing wrapping up BSG. If you're watching the DVDs, did you see the alternate ending to season finale? Chilling stuff!

7) "Welcome to the wonderful world of not knowing what the hell is going on."

I vote for #6 (I know its a Charlie quote, but it's a good one!).

And may I recommend my personal favorite:

"SEE YA IN ANOTHER LIFE, BRUTHA"

...it's kinda fitting for graduation.

Congrats Rich!

How could no one mention my favorite Hurley-ism? It is so appropriate for a Senior quote - too bad it's too late to suggest it to my own Lost-loving Senior.

Let's look death in the face and say, "Whatever, man!" - from Tricia Tanaka is Dead

Kat: You hit it on the nail! Has to be: "If we can't live together, we are going to die alone"! Also fits in w/grad and the real world-I would follow it up w/ "Namaste"! Congrat's kid!!

Also what would be good (and would add a personal touch) You can go with #1 but instead of Desmond Hume you can use someone else. Someone who is special in your life now, a best buddy...or a favorite teacher even...really the word "constant" is what reminds you of LOST.

or you can simply have this:

4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42

but that phrase: 'is my constant' will ALWAYS remind me of LOST.

Your #1 is great, but I can't stop loving "Dude, you got some Artz on you." However, I'm not sure if in 20 years someone would recognize that as being from LOST.

Kat - if we can't live together we die alone is a really good one. Very fitting with the times we are in too.

Faraday to Desmond "You need to find your constant"

Can't get more LOST than "constant" and "Namaste".

"You're gonna die Charlie."

It has no relevance to High School, is morbid and totally Lost.

Great start to the LDQA. I love Buttecups suggestion:
"See you in another life Brutha"

Also like #4 and #1.

Good idea and Rich and Congrats!

I was going to agree with 7....7....7 (remember Monica on "FRIENDS" (heehee, funny). Then I read Kat's thoughts... Rich, you should let Kat write your senior paragragh, she is good!! Love those ideas. Pick a 'something' or a 'special person' and plop them in as your 'constant', the numbers... clever. I wish I could do my senior paragraph again, I'd do that, brutha!!! Namaste...

Congratulations Rich!!
#1 is pretty good, go with your gut!!

Man, #7 would be great, but I feel like it might get "lost" later on. You should include something that has 'brutha' and 'dude' in it. Best of luck to you in the real world!!

#7 - A high school friend of mine signed my yearbook with the quote from the Led Zeplin song "Many dreams come true, and some have silver linings, I live for my dream, and a pocket full of gold." We weren't even great friends, but I think of him everytime I hear that song now, twenty years later! Totally memorable yearbook quote.

K, so the question didn't state it had to be a quote from the show, just a yearbook quote right?

How about:
Why did we blow the hatch?
Dharma Peanut Butter, ftw!
I ate a numbered rabbit.
I survived 8-1-5.
I confess, I moved Jacob's house.

Of course, for real "quotes", I'd think:
"So I guess this means I'm out of the book club" (play on yearbook, get in? :) ) from Ben

"So, like the hatch... blew off your underwear?" - Hurley

"Just gimme whatever has the most caffeine in it brutha."
"I push this button every 108 minutes."
both from Desmond

If the goal is for someone years from now to see the quote and think, "This kid must have been a fan of LOST" you have to go with #1. Can't be mistaken for anything else, plus you get the fun of possibly setting off a mystery when whoever finds the book goes on a quest to find out who this Desmond Hume guy is, doesn't find him in your yearbook, then does a Google search as a last resort and you suddenly created a new Lost fan.

THE NUMBERS!!!! DEFINITELY and the Artz comment; classic LOST. Any of the quotes Mary P suggested. You couldn't go wrong with any of these.

Hey all,

This is off topic but ...

I have a question... I started watching Lost at the pilot but then faded out around when they built the raft and I missed the whole Ana Lucia story and Henry Gale. I got back into it in season 2 right around when Eko kicked the bucket. I'm on track with current episodes but would like to fill in the holes. I rather not start at the beginning, any ideas on where to start? Or just start at the beginning?

start at the beginning if you want to know at all what's going on. It's one of those shows that you can't just come in on. You'll appreciate it more if you start over....just my opinion. :)

Hey Rich! - when do you have to have your quote picked out?

Congrats on graduating dude!!

Dude, you have some Artz on you.

It's not easy being an Other.

If you're more of a romantic, you could always go with:
"you taste like fish biscuits."

Congrats! I love #1....but i think (like many of the others) (others on this post, not Others) See you in another life, Brutha is enitrely fitting as well.

My vote is for "See you in another life, brutha"! As I just had a high school reunion, I can tell that it totally feels like another life since my graduation, so it's absolutely appropriate for your yearbook quote, plus anything with "brutha" in it always makes me think of LOST and Desmond! Congrats BTW :)

If his goal is to definitely have this quote be "Lost" recognizable many years in the future, than #1 is my choice. I also love #7, #4, & #3.

Oh heck. Who am I kidding? I love all of them!

Michele

live together, die alone

can't go wrong!

Mr Eko: "Do not mistake coincidence for fate John."

Live together, die alone

GUpOqK Hi! Nice site! Where is a add to favorite button& ;)
http://www.mysite.com

I agree with Tara and Monkeyface, since Mr. Eko's thoughts have now become a personal mantra of mine...Do not mistake coincidence for fate. You have to hear it in the cool Mr. Eko accent though. What a great thinking point.

Its got to be "See you in another life, brutha." Congrats young blood. Can't wait til the 24th, tick-tock....

Hey, its 6:40 pm where I sit...clocks are still way off..fyi.

"We're not the only people on this island, and we all know it!"'

"Live together, die alone"

But I'd definitely go with #1 or "See you in another life, brotha!"

has to be...I am a dentist. I am not Rambo. Bernard to Rose at the end of last season.

has to be...I am a dentist. I am not Rambo. Bernard to Rose at the end of last season.

I like hurley...you totally just scooby doo'd me didn't you. not so lost recognizeable but the funniest of the show..
