What Kate Does

Welcome back to another edition of The "Lost" Diary.

During football season, I often joke that there are only six days in the week -- since Sundays are essentially reserved entirely for football. "Lost" season is kind of the same way -- it's the only day I really care about and if anyone tries to make plans with me on the night "Lost" is on, I just sort of laugh. "Sorry. Can't. 'Lost' is on."

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. I caught whatever was going around the office, so I decided to quarantine myself tonight and watch alone. Sucks.

Let's roll ...

9:00 -- We're starting off this week in Other Other Land, with Lennon telling Mr. Miyagi that Sayid is still alive. I just Googled "Mr. Miyagi" to check the spelling -- did you know his first name was Kesuke? I bet you didn't.

9:01 -- Kate is stunned that Sayid was dead ... but now is fine. Why is she surprised? Has she not been watching the show the last six years?

9:02 -- Back in AlternateRealityVille, Kate is trying to flee LAX with Claire and the guy who played the Puppetmaster on "Heroes." Yes, I still watch "Heroes." No, I don't know why. Remember when people compared "Heroes" to "Lost"? How'd that turn out?

9:03 -- After the guy cabdriver runs out of the car, Kate kicks Claire to the curb -- but for some reason Claire doesn't want to leave her luggage behind.

9:04 -- The only thing in the history of "Lost" that has seemed more out of place than the part in Jack's hair was Nicki and Paulo. I can't take anything he says seriously.

9:05 -- Sawyer wants to leave Other Other Land, but Mr. Miyagi wants him to stay -- and apparently he wants him to stay so bad, he's willing to ask in English.

9:09 -- Whoa, it's Mac from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" again.

9:10 -- "I can be very convincing when I want to be." -- Kate. It's called "being hot."

9:11 -- Having a gun and being hot allows Kate to talk the mechanic into helping her out of her handcuffs.

9:12 -- Kate seems to have grabbed Claire's bag by mistake.

9:13 -- Mr. Miyagi has Sayid tied up and is blowing dirt on him. What are the odds he's performing some kind of "Do you have the soul of Jacob inside you?" test?

9:14 -- Sayid passed Mr. Miyagi's test. Is that a good thing?

9:15 -- Or not.

9:20 -- Kate goes to meet Claire and now they're about to embark on some sort of girl bonding road trip to Brentwood. Is riding the bus in Los Angeles so bad, Claire would rather hitch a ride from a fugitive who held her at gunpoint?

9:21 -- "I'm sorry, is this a press conference?" -- Mac

9:22 -- Kate just outsmarted Mac and his friend. I have a very low opinion of anyone who gets outsmarted by Kate.

9:23 -- Jack tells two guards to step aside. Add that to list of things I'd like to say one day and mean it.

9:24 -- Whenever Mr. Miyagi speaks English, it's like when SIlent Bob speaks in the Kevin Smith movies.

9:25 -- Mr. Miyagi is obviously Jewish -- he just laid the mother of all guilt trips on Jack. My grandmother would be proud. I expect Jack will give Sayid the pill ... and call Mr. Miyagi once a week, not just on holidays.

9:29 -- "No, I am not a zombie." -- Sayid

9:31 -- "Who do you care about, Kate?" -- Jin. Great question.

9:32 -- Thelma and Louise are on their way to Brentwood.

9:34 -- Of all the breakups in the world, being dumped by the people who were going to adopt your child has to be among the most painful and awkward.

9:35 -- Kate has tracked Sawyer back to his house in Dharmaville.

9:41 -- Kate rushes Claire to the hospital where her physician is ... Ethan. More alternate reality ramifications from the bomb, I presume?

9:42 -- Ethan is able to comfort Claire -- which is easy for the characters on the show, but everyone watching knows he is Mr. Creepy Von Freaksmeout, so that entire scene was waaaay scarier for the viewers.

9:43 -- Kate wants Sawyer to help her find Claire. This week is all about Kate and Claire and how they are bonded.

9:45 -- Shhhh, Sawyer is trying to cry.

9:46 -- Shhhh, now Kate is trying to cry.

9:47 -- Mr. Miyagi tells Jack his name is Dogen and he was brought to the island, just like everyone else.

9:48 -- "Poison." -- Dogen

9:53 -- Claire lies to the cops to help Kate. Girl power!

9:54 -- Now Claire is giving Kate her credit card. This is all just so weird.

9:55 -- Sawyer stares. Kate stares.

9:56 -- Dogen thinks Sayid is possessed.

9:57 -- "Because it happened to your sister." -- Dogen

9:58 -- Odds Jin finds Claire?

9:59 -- RIP Mac.

10:00 -- "Claire?" -- Jin. Oh man, she does not look good.

I have several different tests I use to judge an episode of "Lost." Let's use the "How would you recap the episode to someone who missed it?" test:

Claire's back and Sayid might be possessed.

That's it. Did I miss anything important?

I really don't have much to add here. Not much happened. Not much to analyze. Not much to break down. I give this episode a D -- and I think I am being kind there.

When you factor in how few episodes we have left, an episode like this makes for a huge disappointment.

-- Side note: I was going to an LDQA this week, but only got like 5 questions. So let's just scratch that for this season.

-- Hit me up on Twitter if you want: @nyquil32. Yes, I love cold medicine.

i see you still don't like Kate-centric episodes

LOVED this episode...HATED that stupid Kate was after Sawyer after the love of his life JUST died...

skank whore...

Thanks Daniel... I agree with your D grade. But one thing did catch my ear... Ethan introduced himself as Ethan GOODSPEED... we had previously known him as Ethan Rom... Maybe the purge never happened in alternate island world?

The episode was boring. I think I had more fun reading your review than watching it!
I agree with your grade!

yeah, i cant really believe we were given this crappy episode as a follow up to the amazing premiere. wtf lost writers? this episode doesnt belong in the final season.

we knew that ethan was horace and amy's son from season 5. loved blt as an other

yippee! I am here this week!!

btw:

9:35 ... I think you meant Kate, not Claire.

Agreed. D-

(and I meant HATED not LOVED)

I said it before and I'll say it again... an episode without Keamy in it is just not worth watching!
Mark my words, Keamy will play a VITAL role when the plot of LOST eventually unfolds.

what are the odds that miyagi is related to miles?

OK, while I agree that this episode pales in comparison from last week and if this weren't the last season, that would be fine since they are setting up the story... but come on! This is the last season. Interesting seeing Ethan off island.

Kate drives me as crazy as the next person so hopefully next week we can get back to Locke/Non-Locke and the other beach dwellers... And I need a Sun/Jin reunion!

and I meant HATED not LOVED.

"Mr Creepy Von Freaksmeout" is a perfect name for Ethan. Claire put on weight, very puffy...eating too much boar on the island????Is she the new Rousseau???? Where do you buy a diamond ring on the island????Dharma Diamond Shop?????

Agreed with your grade, Daniel. A solid D.

btw - don't know if you were being droll, but Kate KNEW it was Claire's bag because she had none of her own.
just sayin' :)

I was kinda hoping I missed something that would have redeemed this episode. Clearly not. So disappointing.

I agree with D-. I was bummed to think that Locke is really dead and now it doesn't sit well with me that Sayid is "infected".

@T - How did you not know that Locke is really dead already??

@anonymous - I know Ethan was Horace's son, but his name was never Goodspeed, always Rom. That has to mean something. We shall see.

Sorry, but I need to comment on " Side note: I was going to an LDQA this week, but only got like 5 questions. So let's just scratch that for this season. "

Are you F'IN KIDDING me? The guy who deserted all of us multiple times by promising a LDQA and then never delivering? The guy who left us after last season when people were BEGGING for you to comment, and you never did? And now you're going to blame US for not sending in questions because this time you just so happened to feel like doing one?!?!? What a JOKE.

Your Jewish grandmother would be proud, because you certainly are passing the buck and trying to make us feel guilty.

PS - I remember Seasons 1-3 when your recaps actually used to be FUNNY. Do you remember those times Daniel?

CAM - I don't know for sure, but just the thought of if he really is bugs me.

D-?

Heck no Sawyer's scenes alone elevated it above a C! I thought the katers (kate haters) would dig this episode she got kicked to the curb.

I think we learned that the losties are still trying to atone for their sins even if they didn't commit them in that lifetime - i.e. kate wanting claire to keep aaron she succeeded in reuniting them in another universe. So even with these parallel universes they retain the same subconscience? It could explain Deja Vu.

This is also starting to remind me of that 70’s horror flick Burnt Offerings. In that movie a house consumes people and their souls in order to stay alive. Maybe the island is doing the same thing to stay ‘alive?

Also, they need to explain Locke’s dad. How did he end up on the island, did he really die before coming to the island like he thought, but if he did how did Sawyer kill him later? Was he buried I can’t remember?

The only thing I am not digging is the asian temple guy i like the hippie dude.

@T - Why does it bug you? (I am asking in earnest)

RC do you know of anyplace else some of the regulars post? It might be good to know because the way Daniel is feeling about lost and us too apparently maybe we should be prepared.

@Glee - I hadn't thought about the fact that Kate accomplished off Island what she set out to do on Island, nice catch!

We know Clair is Jack's sister, but he did not find out until the memorial for his father. So he is clueless to what Dogan is talking about.

I disagree although there weren't any big reveals besides Claire I think the writers are moving the story along and showing the connections on and off the island. Or maybe I'm just grateful my favorite show on television is back on the air and I'll take it however I can get it

Ok, I'm pretty sure this has already been discussed. But was Sayid dead when they brought him to the temple? If he wasn't, why hasn't Sawyer suggested they bring Juliette there.

@Rachel: Isn't Ethan's real last name Goodspeed, though? He was the son of Horace Goodspeed and his wife (can't recall her name) that we saw born in 70s Otherville last season, so that fits.

I was disappointed in this episode, but I'd give it a C+, if only for the fact that in addition to Claire returning Rousseau like, more importantly, we got some serious Sawyer grieving for Julier scenes. I, for one, need some closure on this relationship before the producers make the inevitable jump back to Sawyer pining for Kate.

@Sandra - this scene was after the memorial, so Jack knows exactly what he is talking about.

@danette - that would be likely zero. Dogen is Japanese while Miles is not (Chang is chinese).

LSK - I want Keamy too... something to spark this season...

I don't get the whole Kate crying at the dock. Is she soooo insensitive that she's crying about not being able to 'bond' with Sawyer?

Get over it girl - he moved on 3yrs. and 3 decades ago...

I thought the same thing about the engagement ring - but of course they had the sub ferry... he could have asked to have someone bring one back - then again - is there money in Dharmaville?

Can you guys see my eyes rolling into the back of my head out here in AZ? A D is being generous. But in fairness, it did center around Kate...so...we knew that!

Ok what OB allows a woman in labor at 36 weeks to decide if she is going to stop the baby from coming? Only Dr. McFreakmeout! But it did run through my head that Aaron might "make" her deliver, when it looked like he was flatlining. And the cops were not thorough @ all when they were looking for Kate at the hospital.

No way Temple guy is related to Miles. They aren't even in the same Asian family. Miles isn't on his job when it comes to Sayid.

also ran through my head that Sawyer was digging under the house for a way to "reset" the island. But alas...a ring..

welcome back CAM!

I thought it was a poor non-revealing episode last night as well...AT FIRST. Then I read The Transmission blog (because I was impatiently awaiting Daniel's blog to be posted)...The episode did answer some questions. I think most people (myself included) are biased against episodes that do not have Locke or Ben in them.

www.hawaiiup.com/lost for those interested in their take.

This episode showed us that the "sickness" first introduced to us by Rousseau is tied to Smokie. Sayid has now been tortured by electrocution on the island not once, but twice. First by Rousseau, then by Dogen...testing for the sickness. Sayid passed it the first time, but not the last. This episode revealed to us pretty much that we needed to look back and see who would have been turned to the dark side over the last 6 seasons. Rousseau's team, Christian, Ben(?), Claire, and now Sayid.

@Rachel

Ethan would have been born off the island as Horace and Amy would have been together in the alternative world and not taken an island name / alias of 'Rom', he would have taken his Horace's real name, i.e. "Goodspeed"

@sandra, the memorial has already taken place. The Oceanic 6 have been off and are not back on the island.

Thanks lostinaz! Last week I had a late start in watching the epi so I didn't get caught up on here, glad to be back!!

Not me. I've never said that. Any episode of LOST is worth watching, even if they aren't as good as some others. And all I've said is that Keamy isn't done.

Okay, thanks.

Loved seeing Ethan come back, just a little moment of "whaa?" Guess he didn't have to use the fake (?) name of Rom.

I have to agree with the 'D' grade on this episode. I kept waiting for something more exciting to happen, but I felt only the last 5 minutes when Dogen revealed that he thought Sayid's body had been claimed was the most intriguing part of the episode. I also like how they tied it into Claire and why she seemed so different the last few times we saw her.
I agree that it was ridiculous for Kate to go follow Sawyer after Juliet just died, and then cry about it when she saw how much he cared for Juliet. I thought Sawyer's acting was good this episode and I felt so sad for him when he said that maybe some people are meant to be alone.

Also you didn't notice that in both universes Claire got stuck with needles when she was pregnant? I think by ethan both times too!

a lot is being revealed in how destiny may work some things are meant to happen and others are subject to free will.

but where are all the interesting people who want to discuss what is happening and what it means instead of complaining they didn't like the flavor of their tv dinner?

@Cam, you are right, I keep thinking about how they are clueless about each other when the land at LAX. Thanks.

I TOTALLY agree with your D... I was not expecting a good episode this week because of the mind blowing premiere, sucks cause it is the last season. And LOL - I was wondering the same thing about the ring James had for Juliet, :-)
"Dharma Jewelery Shop" -- too funny

soo much better than a D!!! this was an EASY B+ or A-!. We rmemeber when Kate got off the island and claire came to her in a dream and said, NEVER let Aaron go back to the ilsand". now we know that flight 815 never crashed. and ETHAN is there to take Aaron. remember Eathn adn the others (ben's group before the plane crash) couldn't have kids and they could get on and off the island by the sub. well don't ya think Ethan is ther to take the kid to the island? obviously soemting is going on between Aaron, jacob adn the dark shirt mean guy.
we also know Sayid came back to life, but its SOOOO not sayid. a terriorist, torturer killer wouldn't have been begging for his life to a hot iron prod and brain probe. the real sayid would take it like a man. that is WHY he failed the test. he's clearly an imposter, and not jacob. LOVES IT. and don't you think Clarie who killed sunny in philly/and blakc guy, dont' you think clair has been running around the jungle just like the french woman who found sayid? clairs been running all these years looking for her baby like the frensh lady was looking for Alex? you folks are horrible to call this a D graded show. i'll admit, the kate/sawyer seens did take it down a bit, but otherwise. loves it.

Betheaux thanks for the link

I know we love to bash Kate, but maybe she is crying because she feels responsible for Sawyer's loss as opposed to her own loss of Sawyer - or perhaps she realized Sawyer is right, she is always meant to be alone, like Sawyer. No high school bf (got him shot), no Jack, no Sawyer - just Kate alone...

@Suede66...Amy was with Paul first though, before Horace. Even though it's assumed Paul was an Other before Horace and Amy got together...how would you explain that? Maybe I'm not grasping something.

@FANOLOST thanks for that answer. good surname recognition!

@Ginaislost - Jacob told Hugo to get Sayid to the Temple. Prior to that, no one would have thought of that route (except maybe Juliet herself).

But she died. I don't think healing waters heal the dead (just the 'mostly dead').

Sayid was not dead when he went into the water. Neither was Ben (as far as we know).

@lostinaz - Yep. What dr. indeed! and I too thought Aaron was manipulating something. Perhaps he has. Now Claire has feelings for this 'named' unborn child - and thus WILL NOT give him up. Course correction. And maybe kate will become Auntie Kate - which I could stomach better than Momma Kate.

If the writers are trying to show us that it's all gonna work sorta as planned in the 'new' world - Jack will heal Locke so he can walk - etc. that's ok, but they are spending too much time on it. There's a lot of on island stuff that needs sorting out. And really - I want to know about Portland and MI. and the Lamppost. And Widmore, Eloise, and co.

We're down 3 episodes already and verra little is being resolved - and a lot more scratching of me head is going on...

Sawyer could have gotten the ring from someone else on the island, maybe someone who had lost thier husband or wife.

@Suede66...I agree with you. I think she's crying because she's finally starting to realize that she has been uber-selfish by chasing after every man looking for approval...and it has caused everyone nothing but pain..herself included.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe Claire really was telling Kate not to bring Aaron back because she was no longer herself, maybe a last ditch effort to save Aaron, since he needed a good person to raise him, according to the psychic.

@Suede66...I agree with you. I think she's crying because she's finally starting to realize that she has been uber-selfish by chasing after every man looking for approval...and it has caused everyone nothing but pain..herself included.

so in one timeline kate fucks over claire but then goes back to assist her
in the other she helps her all along.

course correction? WHH destiny?

ok so dust test? pour the ash on sayid and hook his nipples up to electrodes. seems like the writers were throwing in a little kink but whatever it works. you say torture - we say test - it's just like George W all over again in Lostie world.

the attitude dogen takes sounds like the training i took for managing multiple settings = don't get friendly with the underlings. they just cloud your judgement and make it messier than it has to be. it's just business.

Sayid to Hurley - No I am not a zombie. fucking rad line there. hmm so jack gets to redeem himself for all those that died to get him to the island...by killing sayid? seems a little contradictory. so what that a test in itself? let's see where trust gets us. takes the pill - which is poisoning forcing dogen to get it out of jack. so he really doesn't want jack dead

next weeks episode better answer a crapload of questions!

Hated Jacks hair, and he was back to being a dick. And Sawyer has porked up a bit :-(

sayid has been claimed and will continue to grow the darkness until the sayid we know is gone. hmm that sounds pretty awful...ok it happens to my sister. claire.
so ethan about delivers the baby so in that line ethan was born to horace and amy off the island somewhere? horace never joined DI and didn't recruit Roger/Ben

the ultrasound had a light shining off it - meant to be aaron? lightshine?
sawyer to kate = some of us are meant to be alone.

surprised she did pull the clementine card there with sawyer to motivate him to buck up and help her find claire

In next scenes

Richard=
"he wants every one of them dead. everyone you care about = dead, all of them

notlocke = such a shame to turn back now.
i promise i'll tell you everything...
hmm not believing you so much there freakshow

Wasn't it Kate who tracked Sawyer to Dharmaville or did I miss something concerning the hotness Claire?

@Suede66...I agree with you. I think she's crying because she's finally starting to realize that she has been uber-selfish by chasing after every man looking for approval...and it has caused everyone nothing but pain..herself included.

Ugh...it keeps reposting my comment to Suede, I don't know why...but sorry all the same!

@espenn - Yes, they're writing in a cycle - new faces, but repetition. I've been on this kick for years. Different souls, different bodies, but the same scenario.

This was hinted at during the discussion between MIB and Jacob - it's the same thing... they come, they are bad, they kill... MIB. It's all progress until... Jacob

So we're seeing our Losties becoming the next generation of islanders.

The Others who are barefoot within the Temple walls - would likely be against the 'shoe' folk - those who follow Christian and/or Locke/Flocke. Cuz these guys have shoes.

Ajira becomes a version of losties, while the losties become a version of islanders.

Dogen is the equivalent of Richard.

Or so it seems now.

@victoria...I know you're trying to convey the right emotions...but language really isn't necessary on this board.

I googled ROM to see if it had any hidden meanings and on an abbreviation site, it had 35 meanings, the last being "REALLY ODD MAN" it so fits Ethan.

So no one thinks that Sayid is being "redeemed" or changed to his "real self" like Ben? Ben was "forever changed", but as far as we know, not "possessed". I think he "sucked it up" before b/c as a torturer, he was taught that. So now he is back to being the real person he was before he became mr bad guy in the middle east. I think the writers did a good job of painting Sayid as a tortured torturer (lol). So i am sticking with the thought that he won't be tortured anymore. But that may make him useless, as his previous "self" often good everyone out of trouble.

yes, kate should feel responsible, But you know if Sawyer had slipped her some tongue, she would have been all over it. I know there has to be a point to her idiocy, so we just have to bide our time. She does occasionally move the story along.

Hey Daniel,
I too was very disappointed with this episode, but there were still some interesting stuff you forgot to mention. Like the stuffed orca that Kate found in Claire's bag was the same stuffed animal Aaron had when he was living with Jack and Kate off the Island. It also appears that some of the important things we saw happen in season one will happen in the flash-sideways universe of Los Angeles. Like Claire's baby not going to the adoptive parents, Kate connected to the birth of Claire's baby and Ethan. And why did Claire's ultrasound say 10-22-04? The plane crashed on 9-22-04.

meant to say Sayid GOT everyone out of crazy situations

For the Kate defenders - the woman says 'she knows how to get...'

She doesn't go from 'let me escape by saying I can track Ford...' to miss lovey.

Kate is out for Kate. The more her other self becomes what she should have been (help Claire, not take the kid, etc...) the more on island kate is gonna want freedom - and do what it is Kate needs to do. She's almost stalking poor Sawyer...

She cried BECAUSE HE DISSED her. She's pissed cuz he walked right past her...

Kate is alone - and cannot manipulate him. Now it will be back to the Temple, and, um, Jack.

Or maybe Claire dies and Kate can assume Rousseau/Claire role - now that would be good writing.

Did anybody else notice that the hippie guy called Sawyer by his real surname Ford, last night? Even if they have the list of the passengers from Oceanic, he wouldn't have been on there as Ford.

@Sandra...I agree, ha!

@fanolost...I am getting on board with that theory as well...I think we're being slowly set up for big old cycle reveal. Then again, the writer's like to throw wrenches in our bicycles wheels all the time so I'm not getting too comfortable.

I do think that Claire is the new Rousseau...although Rousseau did not seem to be affected with the sickness and Claire is. The torture scene with Sayid did give me chills because of the dejavu with Rousseau having done the same thing to him for the same reason seasons ago.

This episode made me think about the Stephen King book "Pet Sematary". But in that book, you buried your dead pet and it came back not quite right. Claire at the end of the episode looked just like I would expect her to look if she had been through a Pet Sematary experience.

That being said, I don't think that Sayid was ever really dead because Miles had such a strange look on his face when he was sitting next to "dead" Sayid and I think it is because he wasn't getting any dead vibes from him. So maybe Sayid really is infected with something. Dogen's test may have been to see if he felt the pain of torture. If he feels nothing, then he's truly a dead body inhabited by a soul; feeling pain means you're still human but have some real problems.

Haven't we seen the ring that Sawyer was going to give Juliet somewhere in another episode? It must be important.

I didn't read all the other posts so someone else may have mentioned it but wasn't the mechanic that cut off Kate's handcuffs the same guy who was originally in the hatch with Desmond? The one who tried to steal his boat Also he was in a scene with Sayid in Iraq?

@fanolost - good call on the shoes! while i notcied our barefoot friends at the temple (they made sure to show that) - it was Jack who was told he had to put a pair of christian's SHOES on dead 'real' locke. humm. maybe christian's shoes are for the dark shirt mean guy. BUT wasn't Locke (dead locke) laying dead on the beach outside the couffin shoe less and mean guy non-locke picked up richard and walked by? like - where are christain's shoes!?

@Marcy - nice catch, it is dated 10/22/04....hmmmm

@Jennifer King...That was a completely different actor.

I also think Claire is a new, sick version of Rousseau now. That was the first thing I thought when she showed up last night... She looks like Rousseau! Of course, three years wandering around in the jungle probably would do that to you...

"We'll be in the food court." best line of the night. I like the theory that in parallel times Kate helped Claire keep Aaron. It seems like the losties destinys' are playing out in non crash time plan

@Jennifer King: the mechanic part was played by Jeff Kober and the guy in the hatch with Des was Kelvin, played by Clancy Brown who was in Shawshank Redemption...they do look alike with the beard.

What frustrates me is Lindelof and Cuse have both stated that alot of questions will not be answered...only the most glaring ones. So, it's mind-numbing trying to figure out what will be answered and what will be left to speculation.

I think Kate's crying for things to come. They did that in Twin Peaks. Three major players started to cry for no good reason--until it was revealed episodes later. A premonition.
Thanks to you posters. I missed a lot of references.

@Betheaux ---the #1 question I want answered: the Smoke Monster(who, what , when , where ,why) It must be part of the island so it has been there since the beginning.

After the premiere, I was convinced that Jacob had "claimed" Sayid's body. Now, I think the MiB has claimed his body. Dogen and crew are team-jacob so if Sayid is now Jacob, they wouldn't want to kill him. Seems like they were checking if he is MiB.. and seems like they were right. I wonder why the pill would only work if he took it willingly though? Am I missing something here? A reason we excluded this theory last week?

I didn't think this episode was this great either... not so much because of Kate but because of Claire. I didn't miss her character at all. Can't wait for next week to hopefully redeem itself.

I wanna know where BEN is in the sideways flash. Why can't they start answering those kinda questions?

I totally agree with your D grade for this episode. I was giving it an F in the first 10 minutes, then thought it might get better, not so much. Very frustrating!

what are the odds that miyagi is related to miles?

Posted by: danette | February 10, 2010 07:55 AM

Not again! Miles isn't Japanese.
LOL
Really, I promise, all Asians are NOT all the same... Sheesh :-)

@Jennifer King - Mechanic is Jeff Kober - who played Dodger on China Beach and can also be seen in the last season of SofAnarchy - the brother of the old mayor...

Kelvin is none other than Clancy Brown - Kurgan in Highlander (and yeah, he's been in lots since, but he'll always be Kurgan to moi)...

I'm beginning to think:

This INFECTION. It's an infection to Temple folk because it changes people - likely to the opposite of what they were - and likely what they were would have been sympathetic to Templers...

Who says infection means 'death' as in dead?

In other words: cycle. Sayid will not be a pro-Temple person but that doesn't mean death.

Ben was prolly supposed to be one of them but changed.

Just thinking...

If Sayid really is MIB, I don't think he would have taken the pill either way. MIB would have to know that temple dudes are on team Jacob. He wouldn't trust them even if Jack were the one to give it to him.

@Bree...haha, we're going to be answering that question all day. I was cracking up last week when people were saying Dogen was speaking in Latin. LOL!

@fanolost - do you think the "Infection" is the same thing as the "sickness" that took over the French team?

Forgive me if I forgot something major, but when did MIB die or did he? We keep talking about people replacing people. ie Locke or Sayid replacing jacob or MIB. But how could Locke or Sayid replace MIB if he didnt die

Mirror mirror on the wall... The LAX version of events are beginning to look a lot like the original island events.

Last week we had Jack save Charlie on the flight. That was very similar to Jack saving Charlie in the jungle after Ethan hung him.

This week we have Ethan playing Dr to Claire, similar to Season 1 or 2 when the Others had her in the Medical hatch.

And add in Kate helping Claire to the hospital almost parallels their journey to find the medical hatch. Heck, I was waiting for Kate to start delivering the baby last night.

Is the LAX version of events starting to course correct? All major island events may start happening in LAX off island. It will be interesting to see this play out in the upcoming weeks.

Which really makes me wonder, maybe flight 815 was NOT the critical event in their lives. Maybe preventing the flight from crashing is meaningless as it was never the turning point in their destiny. Maybe Jack & Co were wrong all along.

Maybe.... it was flight 316 that was the critical event to their destiny and now events are correcting themselves to direct them back to that flight. Hmmmmm.

this episode TOTALLY SUCKED! It was so LAME...The best part? The END! Hope next week is better and gives us more info because at this rate by May there is no way they're going to be able to explain all that has happened in the 5 previous seasons in this last season because there is A LOT to explain people! C'mon writers get your heads out of your anus' for pete sake!

@Cam - Hi. Hhhmmm, I guess I could think of it that way... I hadn't, so thanks.

But really. It's all about manipulation. If the infection is gonna kill Sayid, why ask Jack to do it prematurely?

Again, it's not about good/bad - it's our perception - the losties don't know who to trust - they go back 30 yrs. - they get caught by folks - mothers kill sons - yikes!

Viewers are manipulated by our own biases towards characters, and when our characters change/die - we're left to move on or be mad cuz someone did xyz - it's like course correcting the audience.

If this is true - that's brilliant writing... though not so much last night... ahem

I am also beginning to believe Jacob is dead, he will not be entering any new bodies or appearing to anyone but Hurley anytime soon.

Sayid is simply Sayid, just like Ben was Ben after leaving the temple.

If Dogen was afraid of Sayid becoming infected, why put him in the water in the first place when he knew it was not clear?

@Mr. F - very good points. Maybe crashing on the Island was not their destiny but meeting each other and affecting each others lives was their destiny....

@Mr F- sounds about right... was waiting for Kate to help Claire with labor too. I guess Whatever Happened Happened is the theory no matter what universe/timeline they're in.

So does this mean Rose will have the cancer go away and Kate will get off on the charges against her?

Might not have been the best episode, but I'll still go back and watch it again tonight. It ended way to quickly for me last night!

@Fanolost, forgot about Kurgan, how could I ? "There can be only one...."

Have not even read Daniel's review yet but this was one of the worst episodes EVER. Claire cannot act, the new people at the Temple are a joke and any episode without Desmond, Locke, Richard or Ben is bound to be mediocre. Terrible.

Oh, just read somewhere that the nurse who admitted Claire to the hospital was Aaron's nanny in Eggtown. She takes care of Aaron in both timelines?

Have not even read Daniel's review yet but this was one of the worst episodes EVER. Claire cannot act, the new people at the Temple are a joke and any episode without Desmond, Locke, Richard or Ben is bound to be mediocre. Terrible.

Whether or not the plane crashes does not affect the conception of the Dharma Initiative. So, Ethan is probably still from the island... Doesn't Kate physically deliver Aaron on the island?

@Cam...See my post above about the sickness...I think that is EXACTLY what the 'infection' is.

Off topic -- I'm no prude but what's with the filthy language?

Furthermore, would you (Claire) really get back into a car with someone who just held you at gunpoint and then give her your credit card at the end. Terrible writing. What a mess of an episode

Yeah, I have a fondness for Kate-centric eps about as much as Daniel. Kate = ick! But I loved Hurley asking if Sayid is a zombie. And did you notice the weird looks Miles was giving Sayid? Maybe Miles can shed light on what he heard when Sayid was, um, dead. Liked Ethan as Claire's doctor, but didn't like Claire's wig.

Love the reference to Silent Bob and his wisdom. Yes, that thought did creep into my mind too.

You guys can tear apart this episode all you want...but remember, these episodes are like puzzles. They have been puzzles since the beginning. Just about every episode has a connection to a previous episode...we have no reason to believe that this season will have filler episodes. Everything means SOMETHING....there is a connection. It is up to us as fans to do the research if we want to discover the answers that are already there...hidden maybe...but they are there.

@jaytch...You're not a prude...I commented on this as well. Foul language is a distraction and has no place here.

@Lostme - but in the timeline when the plane lands, you see the island completely immersed in the water. I highly doubt anyone is living there.

@Cam-Stranger things have happened...

I wonder what the significance was regarding the band-aid on Claire's forehead in the cabin (if there was one!) Now that we know she is infected and all....

I think Kate was crying because she realized that she was one of the people meant to be alone.
LOL ring...My hub thought it looked cheap! I told him its not like there's a Tiffany's on the island! Maybe he bought it from Amy.
Not the greatest episode but any episode is a good one!

hello my name is CAM and I have been known to be stickler for the facts, while I admit that strange things happen on Lost, they must be based in the facts set before us.

Just thought I would introduce myself since it has been a while.

I am not trying to be a know it all or smart a**, just trying to keep our theories in facts :)

@Betheaux -- I have a feeling that there is a poster using other people's names (is he related to MiB?!) I don't remember @Victoria's posts in the past being so vitriolic.

Since there will be no more flashbacks...I'm assuming we won't see what happened when Christian took Claire and how she was 'infected'.

@LostMI, I think the bandaid was put on her forehead by Hurley after the house was blown up. Just Hurley taking care of her or something... It's in a deleted scene on the Season 4 dvd set, and she asks him "why is my father here?"

question - is Dogen also the head of the Dharma Initiative? I keep going back and forth but he certainly looks like him a bit (as much as you can tell with all that wisdom hair). Sorry if someone has already discussed this, or if i'm totally off base.

L & C have stated that there is no longer a point to keeping track of what happened in flashbacks - it is all about comparing the two alternate universes - where 815 crashed and where it didn't.

I liked the ep fine, because I just plain love Lost, but I knew lots of bloggers would hate it!

@Cam-Hi CAM, nice to meet you. Here are a couple facts:

1) The DI camp was on the island underwater. So, it did indeed exist before the island was covered with water. (You may want to review footage from the premier).

2) Time travel. Who says Ethan came from/goes back to the island as it appears in 2004? Hasn't time travel been established?

What?! I own all the seasons and I must have missed that! Thanks for clearing the bandaid thing up for me!

@Lostme - I believe I read your previous comment wrong, I thought you were saying that Ethan was still on the island... my bad!

On that note - we have very little facts about the sideways flashes and what the reality of that timeline is, so we have no idea whether or not anyone is timetraveling.

I almost forgot it was diary day, because still reporting on the earthquake this morning in Illinois. One of my Facebook friends theorized that this random earthquake is being caused by the inter-dimensional rift caused by the LOST timeline.

But, yeah, gotta agree that this ep was a bit of a snoozer. Nice to see Claire around, tho, and want to see where in the heck Sun is at, soon!

The comment about the date on the sonargram picture being 10/22 vs. 9/22 - normally they input the due date when they do a scan, and since Claire is 36 weeks, 10/22 would be her due date.

Actually, thanks to some warning from the time travelling Losties, many in the Dharma Int left via the subs. Mainly the women and kids... So that could be how Ethan left the island and is now in LA.

@Janelle - Sun is on the beach with Lupidus and the rest of the 316ers...

Does anyone remember what Claire says when shes in the cabin again? I remember it being really creepy but I don't remember what it was?

Also, I thought the part with Jack being quilt tripped by Dogen was lame, Jack is way to smart to be played by this guy!

"Infected" can mean a lot of things, but does anyone speak Chinese who can give us a better translation of what Dogen actually says? Does it mean that the smoke monster or Jacob is inside them, or just opens them up to one of the two's influence? Was this infection the reason that the others/Dharma people/Desmond took those injections, so that smokie couldn't 'infect' people?

What I found interesting about Dogen that he seems to be the leader of the others...hmmm I thought Ben was the leader.
Also it was funny to see BLT (don't know his real name) as an other. I always wondered what happened to him after he graduated from Degrassi High. Too bad that Claire shot him at the end of the episode.

Just for clarification what year is it on the island right now....er i mean in last nights epi?

There is something really bugging me about the temple, temple Others and Smokie.

How was Smokie able to move around so freely inside the temple fence all this time? We saw him back with the French team, when the guy lost his arm. We saw Smokie/Flocke inside there when Ben fell in the hole and got scanned by Smokie. Yet no sign of the temple Others until now... And I can only assume the death of Jacob removes some sort of protection, as the temple Others went into panic mode upon finding out he died. Was this some other "rule" of the "game" with Smokie/Jacob?

Also, how come the temple others appear to be in contact with Jacob and Ben was not? They asked Hurley, will Jacob be coming to the temple? Like this a common occurence. Yet Ben claimed to never have heard a peep from Jacob prior to killing him. Ben was the supposed leader of the Others, he sent folks to the temple as the last safe haven. Something doesnt fit here.

@Loniloveslost, should be 2007 on the island.

@Loniloveslost, I think it is 2007, but they haven't confirmed that. I say that based on how Othertown looks, like it was after the attack by the freighter people, which would have been in 2004, and after Rousseau was killed. Since the black dude said Rousseau has been dead for "years" it has to be at least three years later. Right?

@ Mr F. Did the temple people say they were trying to keep the black smoke out? They said they were trying to keep "him" out

@ Berky I liked it too, for the same reason. But I knew thatmost others would not

Thanks Mr F. that's what i thought but then I started getting confused, so technically the flash sideways are really 3 years prior to what is happening on the island presently?

@Gregg, you are correct in saying "him out". But a couple of things lead me to believe they are indeed referring to ol' Smokie..

1. As Flocke told Ben, I'm not a what Ben, I'm a whom. Meaning Flocke/MiB/Smokie refers to himself as a person.

2. The 2 Temple Others with Kate and Jin, claimed to be protecting them from the black cloud of smoke that makes whirling noises.

3. The ash circle around the temple. Same one Brahm used to stop Smokie for a minute before he sent falling rocks on his head.

IMHO, it is smokie they want to keep out of the temple.

@Loniloveslost, yes the LA X timelime is taking place back in 2004. At least that is what I believe.

Yeah, I think it is 2007, but until Sun and Jin reunite, I think I'll just go with being unsure.

One thing I'm still wondering about... is Richard okay?!

And @LostMI, yeah, I was bored one night and watched the deleted scenes and found that one. Wonder if they deleted it because it might have given an answer away a little bit...

I think both worlds are in 2004 because the worlds are sideways to each other, not back and sideways. Also, the Losties at the Temple are in the same time as Flocke and Ben and Richard on the beach, because Richard saw the flare set off by those at the Temple.

Where do you guys think MIB's home is?
...cause he says he want the one thing locke didn't which is to go home.

@Loniloveslost

Just a guess - Egypt - the Great Pyramid.

@Betheaux, nice catch on Sayid being tested twice. Appears Rousseau was a lot smarter than I gave her credit for. Wonder how she discovered the testing method.

Side note, another nice shout out to Empire Strikes Back. Sayid saying they tortured him but never asked any questions. Similar to Han Solo being tortured by Vader and crew in Cloud City, they never even asked me any questions.

@ Mr. F good points.
Question then.. if the Black smoke was/is a security of sorts for the temple, than why did it let Ben kill jacob. one would think that jacob was protector of the island. To have him die so easily seems odd

@Mr. F - Smokie was under the temple, no? Just like getting 'into' the temple is by going through a hole...

Like there's a breach in parts.

Just a thought.

Is it also possible whatever has happened has changed everything? Like flipped?

So yeah, Smokie had been a part of whomever lived in the temple - but now, these folks don't live in the temple...

Like we're on an alternate 2004 Lost? I don't like this idea (it isn't puzzle-piece fitting) but if everything else is being swapped out (Claire, MIB/Jacob) why not Temple inhabitants?

I think when epis are not satisfying, I begin to spin fantastical tales...

They are for sure in 2007 on the island because when they got to the temple Cindy said they were on the first plane, meaning Ajira 316 has crashed already... being the second plane.

@Gregg, I dont know. As I alluded to above, something doesnt add up with the temple, temple Others and Smokie.

If MiB=Flocke=Smokie, then it was Smokie's plan to find a loophole and kill Jacob. Almost like Jacob had some kind of control over Smokie, but Smokie didnt like it and the only way to be free from Jacob was to have Jacob killed. Not sure what to think...

@fanolost, yes Smokie was under the temple walls for sure. In the enhanced version prior to this episode, they pointed out that the hole Jack & Co had to walk around in the tunnels was the same one Ben fell thru. So Smokie was down in there in 2007, not too long ago. What are we 3-5 days or so from 316 crashing?

And I agree with CAM, they are in 2007 on the island.

I agree and why was Ben able to call on Smokie just like that when he needed him to take care of Whidmore's people? Maybe Ben has more to do with smokie then we thought because he was cured from the temple water.

I am re-posting, but Does anyone know if and when MIB died. a lot of people are theorizing the MIB now being replaced, but he cant if he's still a live.

I'm more lost than ever and loving every minute of it!
I'm with Mr F and Cam 2004 LA; 2007 Island. Maybe 1 more turn of the FDW will be in order.

The MiB became the smoke monster and we're going to see how that came about.

@Gregg, I dont think anyone knows when MiB died, but I am fairly confident he did.

I believe Glee and Twistie/Tootsie (?) posted about this last week. That the MiB on the beach with Jacob was always Smokie, just taking that form to sit with Jacob. I agree, I think it was part of keeping the big reveal secret that MiB is Smokie is Flocke.

I believe Smokie's natural appearance is the black smoke. He just takes the form of humans and/or animals from time to time.

So, the island is 2007 and the plane was 2004...then what about the island being under water in 2004? Is the island on another reality as well?

so I don't really have anything much to add but I did find another Deadwood cross over last night. It bugged me last week when I could remember where I had seen Dogen's translator before, but wasn't he Bullocks friend and was with Trixie...who was also on LOST, Sun killed her

@lostme

The island underwater is part of the 2004 alternate reality - I think it is underwater because the hydrogen bomb went off. In the other reality - I'll agree, in 2007 - the bomb did not go off so the island is not underwater.

Does anyone else think that Jacob sent Sayid to the temple knowing he is infecting, in order to kill the temple people for not protecting him. Why else would Jacob send Sayid there.

@ Gregg - IDK, Jacob strikes me as a pacifist. But that may be what they want us to think.

I forget who asked, but here is part of the transcript from Cabin Fever with Clair, Locke and Christian

LOCKE: Claire?

CLAIRE: Hi, John.

LOCKE: What're you doing here?

CLAIRE: Don't worry. I'm fine. I'm with him.

LOCKE: Wh--where's the baby?

CHRISTIAN: The baby's where he's supposed to be, and that's not here. It's probably best that you don't tell anyone that you saw her.

LOCKE: Why? Why is she--

CHRISTIAN: We don't have time for this. The people from the boat are already on their way back, and once they get here, all of these questions won't matter one bit. So why don't you ask the one question that does matter?

LOCKE: How do I save the island?

Also, I don't know if anyone said this above, I must confess I have been skimming because of my work load, but re: Eathan's last name....Did we ever find out definitively that Eathan was Horace's. I remember we tossed around the idea that he was Paul's. That might explain the last name Rom. I'm sure someone remembers this answer.

@ Jenn3 thats kinda my point. Why would Jacob die so easily. Throughout the show he's been this omnipotent figure. Then he dies so easily. You would think Jacob would have know Ben was going to stab him and stop it from happening. So now, I think Jacob may feel betrayed or vengeful

Okay, Gregg, now I get what you are saying. Here's my thoughts, for whatever they are or aren't worth:

What if Jacob died on purpose, kinda like Jesus (I'm sure I will get this kinda wrong because I am not totally up on my Bible facts, so hopefully flashest and ssarahbadera or anyone else can straighten me out) But wasn't Jesus essentially a martyr and died so that his followers/Christians' sins would be forgiven and they could start fresh. Okay I know that is a very basic analysis, but perhaps someone can help me draw it out or correct me. I'm okay with either.

I guess my incoherent point is what if Jacob isn't vengeful because Ben killed him, what if he let Ben kill him for a greater purpose, so that in the end all that matters is there was progess.......

@Jenn3... [nods head in approval] That is kind of what I am thinking, a greater purpose. Maybe Jacob had to die in order for things to turn out differently. Maybe MiB's loophole will end up being what finally does changes the course of mankind.

@Jenn3 and Mr. F
*continues nodding head* Yep! Those are my thoughts exactly. Seems to easy that Jacob didn't fight back when Ben killed him.

Boring old Kate. I think they don't kill her off because no one would be bothered about it.

@ Mr. F....oh good, I guess I did explain myself good enough. I'm kinda thinking that had it gone down either way...Ben chose not to kill Jacob - maybe game over, the ultimate progess or Ben kills Jacob which washes away the sins of mankind = slower progress, but still progress. I mean none of these characters are inherently bad. Case in point Kate went back to help Claire even though she risked getting caught, but she did it because....(fanolost don't hate me) it was the right thing to do (once in a while she isn't a totally selfish person)[cringes, waiting for fanolost's reply]

Possibly the worst episode ever. I may be forgetting a few from Season Two, but really? Where did that go? What did we learn? I hated it. I hate Kate, too. I wish they would have killed her in the season premiere.

Oh and no one still thought it was interesting or curious when the other said to Kate [paraphrasing] You don't remember me do you. I was the guard that you hit in the face with the gun (or something like that) referring to one of her escapes pre-island.....WTF was that about?

The date on Claire's ultrasound is one month after the original crash date. Hmmm...

@Jenn3 - I totally thought he meant when she escaped on Hydra Island. Maybe I was just hallucinating?

@ berky - it is more than likely it was me who was hallucinating. Unfortunately that part of the transcript isn't up yet. Thanks berky, it really threw me last night, but apparently that is because I heard something other than what he really said. I can't remember why but that never crossed my mind last night.

Pretty sure he was referencing when she escaped Hydra because that actor was in that episode.

http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Aldo

Thanks berky & CAM. I need to get more rest before Tuesdays:)

I think we all could use a second viewing though, I had to double check Lostpedia to make sure! :)

@Mr. F, Jenn3 Cam - yes. That's what I'm saying - when MIB and Jacob are on the beach - Jacob is the one who is looking at progress - the progress of all the same ole same ole - but not exactly the same until all the progress becomes the change.

But in between, it's cyclical.

FYI - I meant 2007 (island year) - and with that, we don't know what has been happening in the in between years (of 2004-2007) on island.

So what seems to be lost in my previous post is Smokie being under the temple doesn't mean it had 'access' to the temple/people. Ben got to it through another 'hole' from his Dharmaville home - and underground.

Dogen - a Zen philosopher - wrote about time. Y'all might want to ponder what the island Dogen might be: http://www.thezensite.com/ZenTeachings/Dogen_Teachings/Uji.htm

Or... the Others at the Temple now were not at the temple in 2004 - those were Ben's Others - and so Smokie could be there...

Yes/no?

fanolost- Something is certainly weird about it, but I don't think there are 2 sets of others. I too am unable to wrap my head around why there was a security fence to keep smokie out, but access to smokie under Ben's house and the CV tunnels under the temple, island and swan (remember the map on the Swan door).

@fanolost - I don't think the Others at the temple are different than the Others who followed Ben. I think maybe Ben, Richard and now Dogen are different types of leaders of the Others... like different levels of management in a company. I don't know about you, but I have 2 bosses and I myself am a boss..

ALSO - I don't think Ben is on either Jacob or MIB's "side"... I think MIB/Flocke was just using Ben, that doesn't mean Ben is on his side. Even if he did manipulate the smoke monster at one point.

OK, this next point is quite possible rediculous and completely off base... but what if there are 2 smokies? The one the Others can control and the one Flocke became last week?

CAM - its not totally ridiculous, perhaps thats why sometimes it scans and sometimes it kills. or maybe thats just part of the judgment thing?

Was it just me or did the woman in Brentwood sound exactly like Juliet?

@Cam...Although that is an interesting theory, I think there is just one Smokie. Remember, Flocke said he had been through a great deal to get to this point. Perhaps he was doing the "bidding" of the Others in order to get where he wanted eventually. Being immortal, you have eternity to put your plan into action. It may have seemed like Smokie/MiB was under the Other's control at times, but I think it was all part of the plan.

@Betheaux - good point! Using Ben may have been payback for all the times he had been used by Ben.

Like I said, I am not totally committed to that theory, it just came out in my crazy thought process.

@Cam...Totally reasonable to bring that theory to the table. The more I've immersed myself in the crazy and crazier theories, the more I realize I might be thinking too hard. LOL

@Cam - no theory is crazy ... and I'm surprised after three epis that we're still off on such tangents - rather than feeling a bit satiated by having something revealed or settled.

But I trust the writers...

And things are switching, so why not the apparent 'switch of sides' or whatever... we don't know what happened for three years on island - there could have been a coup of sorts, no? Richard, Ben, Locke, Dogen... something could have happened when Locke left the island - and thus the balance was upset..

@fanolost...I trust the writers as well...though I believe they are 'testing' us with these first few episodes. It's hard not to feel a bit out of the loop and 'a head scratchin' when every week the preview for the following week has "The time for questions is over" running through it. Although I do admit, there aren't really alot of new questions...just half-answers that make us even more confused (if that makes sense). Since there aren't supposed to be any more flash-forwards or backwards anymore, it will be interesting to see how things are explained using the present and sideways tense.

Perhaps the writer's are testing how Thomas-like the fans are? I always go back to that episode last season where Ben shared that bible account with Jack. Thomas had to see in order to believe, he did not have faith until after he was convinced after touching Jesus' wounds. The same seems to ring true with us...will we have faith in the writer's ability to wrap this up right?

@Betheaux - if it's all biblical, I'll be disappointed and join the Judean People's Front, or Maybe the People's Judean Front (shout out to MPython) in protest!

I'm worrit the writers have crammed too much into too little time - and may have to resort to quippish tie-ups to some necessary loose ends.

Hope springs eternal...

@Fanolost...It's hard to say really...there is mythology and bible themes throughout so it's difficult to put your thumb on it. It's so hard to be patient too and just wait it out. I think part of it is that we're building up expectation for something mind-blowing when we honestly wouldn't know what that mind-blowing thing would be exactly. We've gone over just about every tangible theory in the book, so would we really be surprised at all?

Perhaps this is a case of it being about the journey, and not the destination?

I would have given it an F except for seeing Ethan. Come on!! I expect way more then this boring episode. IT IS the final season!!! I'm really tired and frustrated with having more questions and still NONE answered. Lets start closing up some loose ends!!! So frustrated!!!!

I have had so many theories, but here is another one, somewhat incomplete but it is in process:

The series will end with the beginning of another cycle. As we have seen with the time traveling last year there is a cycle on the isalnd. This season they may set us up to see the end of the cycle, only to be thrown into another cycle, hmmm??

Am I making sense?

@CAM...I get ya'. I can see it ending that way, giving us an "Aha!" moment, followed shortly by an "Awwwggghghhhhh" moment, followed by a "Duh, we figured that out long ago!" moment.

Damon and Carlton have said the ending would be shocking. Let's hope it shocks at least 30% of us. LOL

One thing I noticed... another weird thing (I have too much time on my hands right now, Maryland's getting blizzard number 3, I've been inside all week), Kate pulls an orca whale out of Claire's bag. When Jack was yelling at Kate "you're not even related to him!" and Aaron came down, he was holding an orca. Another throw in from the writers?

Here's one out of left field...wasn't Juliet branded? I know Sayid wasn't branded, just poked with a hot...well, poker.

Do you think it'll end like "I see dead people" movie... where you have to go back and watch ALL the episodes so that it starts to make sense....

@Betheaux- yeah, Juliet was branded for her assisting Kate, Sawyer, and Jack back in Season 3.

Thanks @lovesteamykeamy...don't you just love red herrings?

Always a fun thing to have... used 'em all the time on my teachers. ;)

@liljill!

yes! I saw that on Lostpedia - the date on Claire's sonogram is 10-22-2004.

@Cam - I've been doing the cycle theory all along - and I'm hoping at the end they figure out how to break the cycle.

If not, then why not continue????

We're like to lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground, what have we found, the same old fears... wish you were here.

I mean, is the whole thing based on Pink Floyd?

sorry, that's TWO lost souls

And I'm pretty certain the cycle is dead on because of MIB and Jacob ...

So in one sense, I should feel quite satiated... ack.

Branding... Jack's tattoo... branding of sorts... and they made it part of an epi? correlation?

@fanolost...I'm sure once the series ends...someone will post an eerie Lost montage to "Dark Side of the Moon" on Youtube a la Wizard of Oz.

I'm sure I missed this, but could someone tell me what MIB stands for? Thanks!

@loriirol...Man In Black aka Smokie aka Unlocke aka Flocke aka Esau, etc...

@Betheaux- Thanks!

Clearly, Daniel's illness helped him to give this episode a D- (feel better!)

Initially, I did not think there was a lot of content in this week's show....

however, in thinking about the entire show, there was a lot happening as many have pointed out.

CLARE back (and bad!)

SAYID (infected)

KATE (running in 2 dimensions)

MILES (showing weird expressions all the time; he knows who is and who is not dead)

THE TEMPLE awesome

SAWYER (going to be mean & sarcastic again!)

AARON going to be born again

ETHAN still creepy just to look at in ANY setting

JIN (in a bear trap for heaven's sake!)

Think about it, people (and Daniel) there was a lot of content --- be patient, these writers know what they are doing (except for the Bai Ling episode!)

ALSO, on this blog it is fashionable to HATE KATE. so do we have to write that in every account we all make?? Just let is go!

OK, quick comment. I am pretty sure that MIB is the smoke monster and that MIB is not dead, exactly. I think he is in an alternate reality and cannot appear in his true form but rather appears in the form of Flocke and Smokey. I also think that Christian and Claire are infected by his (MIB's) sickness. I say this because both Christian and Claire were in "Jacob's" cabin. But what if that cabin wasn't Jacob's at all but MIB's? Remember (not sure what season it was) when we heard who we thought was Jacob say "help me" at the cabin? Maybe it was MIB? Maybe he has been banished from the inner part of the Temple and therefore cannot reside there. Now that Jacob is dead maybe he can reclaim what he thinks to be his rightful place there...

Ugh, I am so confused!

Wasn't sure if anyone had commented on this yet...but I felt like it was a big old Lost reunion during the commercial breaks. Seems ABC is recycling Lost characters into their new shows...here's a tally so far:

Charlie - Flash Forward
Penny - Flash Forward
Alex - The Forgotten
Bernard - The Forgotten or Flash Forward, can't remember(though uncredited on IMDB)
Juliet - V

Am I missing anyone?

Recycled characters, definitely. It's kind of weird to see them on other ABC shows.

I wonder if Claire set the bear trap and the other trap that Kate nearly stepped on, ala Rousseau?

@Jessica - I think you are on the right track. We had a similar discussion last week in the LA X comments. It would be acceptable to conclude that the cabin was compromised by MiB (Smokey), which was confirmed in the enhanced episode of LA X pt. 2 last night. This confirmation leads us to conclude that MiB orchestrated what occurred during both of Locke's visits to the cabin, including the plea for help, and the later appearance of Christian and Claire. When Illana the Ajira people discovered the cabin and burned it, it was because the ash or seal had been broken like a bad jar of pickles.

@bb - Fashionable to hate Kate, good point! LOL You're on the ball...others will follow. To be honest, I trust other blogger's opinions better than Daniel's, but prefer this blog's commenters to banter with.

@lovesteamykeamy - I would say that's a good assumption. When Justin stopped Kate or Jin from tripping the wire, they mentioned that SHE had put it there. With it being 3 years since Rousseau's death, it's equally likely they were talking about Claire.

anyone think the temple others could have been pouring the ashe to keep smokie INSIDE the temple walls vs. keeping him out?

@Josh - Smokie was still at the statue at that point, that is, if he does singularly manifest himself. Sayid was "dead" when they poured the ash after Hurley broke the news that Jacob was dead. So they would have had no way of knowing there was any risk already inside the temple that had to be kept in. Just a thought.

That was the worst episode I've seen in a long time. So many cheesy things happpened.

Claire acted like an imbecile by going with Kate and then helping her out. It was ridiculous when Claire went into labor on the porch, and even more so that Ethan gave her an option as to whether she wanted to have the baby today or not. The temple people are not compelling in any way.

Hurley and Miles still get the best lines. What's with Jack's hair part?

Horrible episode.

nodding head #4. Do you think that Jacob in a sense goaded Ben into stabbing him to further the progress of his plan, rather than MIB's.

I think Ethan was Horace's because it had been 3 years since Paul died. Saywer was security now and Horace had gotten drunk bc he found the ankh necklace in her sock drawer. lol (My husband could never wear my socks!)

Jenn3 - I wondered about that. Was that when they rescued Alex's boyfriend?

I'm with the cycling theory. Ever since I heard the first episode was scheduled for ground hog's day, all I could think was that the story would somehow begin to repeat. It would be familiar but be able to change based on actions and circumstances.

I've read everyone's post and a lot of people are talking about deja vu...no one seems to have noticed when Kate saw Jack from the cab and they had like a triple(maybe just a double) take of each other. This episode was a bit of a let down, but it was all about re-introducing Claire(meh) to the story.

Ann - not ridiculous that Claire be given a choice. The same thing happened to me. We could have let things go naturally as I was 35 weeks (assuming some risks) or I could go on meds and try to go to term. Funny, though, I ended up a week late. I say accept it as not totally out of the realm of possible.

WHY was claire's sonogram dated OCTOBER 22, 2004 and not SEPTEMBER?

@Scott - I recall reading a couple posts about that earlier in the thread. I think the two theories were A) Real bonafide deja vu with a hidden meaning...or B) Kate remembering him from the plane (she slipped the pen off him).

@jb...Not sure about that. As someone mentioned before...perhaps it's the due date as she was only 36 weeks and term is at 40 weeks. Only logical explanation other than an error...or part of the whole anomaly.

what if flight 815 actually occurred a month later in the alternate reality?

They usually don't put due dates on sonograms, do they?

@bb re: kate...LOL we...can't...help..it!

@CAM and others. Totally think there is either more than 1 smokie, or that smokie can be harnessed. Also like the idea of Jacob taking one for the team to break the cycle. That would go along with the discussion from re:Jacob being christ like.

I know I am WAY behind on this, but so much else to follow...but why does everyone say that the island is underwater in 2004? Did they show that somewhere else other than in the opening sequence? I haven't gone back to watch it again.

Has anyone seen the Australian movie The Locals? Too simple but about 2 guys who interact with/get tortured by folks only to figure out they are dead.

@jb...That is possible...but I have no idea how to 'splain! LOL

Brain....tired...taking...break...now!

@lostinaz - I think the only time you saw the Island underwater was when flight 815 (part deux) flew over it in last weeks episode... which would put the island under water in 2004 (part deux)

Too much complaining and bashing. Lost is not perfect but this is the last season and then it's gone. And with it, I assume, Daniel's Lost Diary and all you people whose postings I do enjoy reading even when the complaining and bashing gets a little much. I think I am starting a sort of greiving process for the terminal Lost and all the characters in the show (and some of you characters too!) I will miss the show and I know there will be a lot of loose ends still hanging out there when it is done.

being hot is no reason to keep such an annoying character alive.. especially with a show as smart as lost... Glad to know I wasn't the only one who hated this episode..

Kate can go f herself....I hate this bitch. LEAVE HIM ALOOOONE. What part of that is she not getting? No speaky da english Kate? BACK OFF. I hate hate hate that this triangle between her J&Sawyer is back on. Ruined the whole episode. I need more Jin and More sun and less reality world....next weeks ep looks way better.

I think that MIB wants to go "home" and that "home" is the temple. I'm guessing that he can travel under the temple, via the tunnels, but all entrances to the temple are either protected by ash or water.I also don't believe that Ben actually controlled Smokie,he just pulled the plug on the water that was blocking Smokie from entering Dharmaville....... Hmmmm

Oops that was me at 3:11

"Infected" can mean a lot of things, but does anyone speak Chinese who can give us a better translation of what Dogen actually says? Does it mean that the smoke monster or Jacob is inside them, or just opens them up to one of the two's influence? Was this infection the reason that the others/Dharma people/Desmond took those injections, so that smokie couldn't 'infect' people?

Okay, okay, I'm pretty sure he's speaking in Japanese. * sigh * :-)

Why are the Temple Others so lame? Weren't the Others super-smart & crafty? Maybe that was only when Ben was the leader because that man got things DONE. All last season we saw how not-so-smart the Others were and now that we are back in the "present" we see that we got the band of the Others who can't fight, shoot, keep a dumb-Kate & after-only-3yr-of-English-tutelage fluent Jin in control as prisoners, listen to geeky-parted-hair Jack when he bosses them around...etc.

I have lost respect for the band of Others.

when sawyer and kate are sitting on the dock - before the throw's the ring into the water, kate asks him, (she points) and said, "was that your house with juliet?" adnhe says, "yes". she darn well knew where they lived, right? when her and jack came back with hureley, they lived in darmah. why would she ask him that?

hi

I may be wrong but isn't that ring that Sawyer had for Juliet his dead mother's ring.
He had the box hidden and I think it is stuff he got as a kid when his parents were killed.
Just saying

i apologize for my profanity earlier. i was attempting to copy and paste from the lost diary facebook page where i am looser with my language. i was attempting to edit and in between a 2 year old that presses buttons independent of me and having my computer freeze didn't get it edited properly.

actually dogen is speaking japanese and i have thought of asking my friend to translate some things that they didn't tell us

I just hope the season doesn't end with them all waking up in a spaceship after the long sleep like they did on the series finale of "Life on Mars" that was LAME and this show deserves so much better.

I think it's 2007 on the island and 2004 in the flash 'sideways' because Jacob tells Hurley that he died an hour ago (a strange detail to include if it's not meaningful), meaning that they are in 2007 along with Richard, Ben, Sun and remaining Ajira flight passengers. Right?

How did Kate drive around LA in a stolen cab, not just that but carjacked?! Hell, How did she make it out of the airport for that matter? Are the LA cops that bad? They must have been trained by the stormtroopers from Star Wars episode IV. They couldnt hit s#%t!! (or find s#%t!!)

I don't know if this was covered but if we believe the flash sideways Ethan was on the Island when the bomb went off and the island sunk (1977) so wouldn't he be at the bottom of the ocean?

I can't stop giggling at "Mr. Creepy Von Freaksmeout". Genius.

btw Daniel Itotally agree with your grade we sisn't learn anythng although the characters were played very nicely but this is FINAL SEASON we know these are great characters already and Kate totally annoyed me when she told Jack she would take care of James like she is the new Juliet

So is the black powder that they always showed circling Jacob's cabin meant to keep the cabin protected from Smokie getting in or from something getting out of the cabin. They made it a point to show us, over and over, the hole in the powder indicating a breach, but what does that mean exactly.

And I'll say this again. I think Sayid did not die. Miles was trying to "read" him while he was "dead" but wasn't getting anything from him and that is why he looked so puzzled.

***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT*** ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT*** ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***

Once again I quote from TV Guide Magazine's William Keck. This is going to be REALLY long so here goes:)

Feb. 23rd Jack-centric episode focusing on the never-before-seen Lighthouse Dharma station.

Mar. 09th Ben-centric where Michael Emerson says, "You'll see a man who is only faintly recognizable as the Ben we've known. What if Ben had been born and lived in unextraordinary circumstances? What might he have been like?"

Mar. 16th Sawyer-centric where Josh Holloway tells us it will show the grifter is "the same guy, but on the other side of the law."

Mar. 23rd Richard-centric will reveal "a great deal about the mythology behind the island and a critical conflict in play."

Mar. 30th Sun/Jin-centric will reveal "a totally different relationship" for the couple, explains Kim, where "They are no longer living in Seoul and Sun didn't have to leave Jin at the airport." And Hurley won't be cursed by the numbers anymore. "He went from being the unluckiest guy in the world to the luckiest," says Jorge Garcia. "He's rich in good fortune."

Q: What's going on with the "Flash-sideways"?
A: Say goodbye to flashbacks and flash-forwards, and hello to this season's "different kind of storytelling device" that the producers cryptically teased for months. "The flash-sideways enable us to return to Season 1 character-centric episodes," explains executive producer Damon Lindelof. "They'll show what [the characters'] lives would have been like if Oceanic 815 had landed and how their lives are different from the lives that we knew before." In one reality, the bomb sent the time-traveling islanders back to 2007 when Desmond blew up the Swan hatch. In the coinciding parallel reality, "We'll all crisscross in very different ways," says Yunjin Kim (Sun). "Certain characters will recognize each other and certain won't."

Q: So should we discard all we learned in the previous seasons' flashbacks?
A: Pretty much, says executive producer Carlton Cuse. "All that matters now are the flash-sideways stories," he says. "These stories contain differences that you don't need to try to reconcile, but loyal fans will find interesting." For instance, Evangeline Lilly says Kate's flash-sideways reveals that "instead of being a really tormented fugitive on the run, she's now a fugitive on the run who gets a kick out of it."

Q: Why is the island now submerged under water?
A: "It was a result of the explosion" explains Lindelof, adding that with the island sunk in 1977, perhaps Jacob never touched the passengers' lives off island. And what happened to the Others living on the island at the time? Says Nestor Carbonell (Richard), "Who knows if I was on the island when that happened?"

Q: In the flash-sideways, the plane's passenger list is different. Why?
A: Desmond was on the plane; Shannon wasn't. People like Maggie Grace's Shannon weren't missing simply because they couldn't work out her schedule. "We're up to something," teases Lindelof. "There's a method to our madness, but you're going to have to watch the entire season to understand it." And while Jack thought he recognized Desmond, it doesn't mean he was having a flash to island life. Remember, they met in Los Angeles at a running track during a Season 2 flashback; Jack may have recognized Desmond's accent, brotha. As for talk that all the characters will be back for the finale, "We don't want to comment on that," says Cuse. "But we do want the finale to have a real sense of emotional completion. So you'll see a lot of faces you like?

Q: Is the gang at the Temple Other Others?
A: No, they are the same Others, including former Oceanic flight attendant Cindy. Ben has referred to the Temple as "the last safe place on the island" and instructed Richard to take the Others there in Season 3.

Q: How did Sayid come back to life? Is the spirit of Jacob now in his body?
A: It's too early to tell, but Sayid was healed after taking a dip in the Temple's spring, which could have also healed young Ben after he was shot in Season 5. At the time, Richard warned the castaways that while Ben's life could be saved, he would never be the same. So Sayid may not be the same guy we've always known.

Q: John Locke is the Smoke Monster/Man in Black?
A: "John Locke is dead, and that guy who is in his body is the Smoke Monster," confirms Cuse. Adds Lindelof: "People have thought of the Smoke Monster as an 'It' instead of a 'He.'" The Monster may have also appeared as many dead characters in the past to influence the survivors' journeys: Jack's deceased father, Mr. Eko's brother and, most recently, Ben's daughter, Alex, who instructed Ben to do whatever John Locke says. (Little did Ben know that the John Locke he would be following was in fact the Man in Black.) "The idea that the Smoke Monster was once a man who has feelings and emotions is a little bit of a game-changer," says Lindelof. "Season 6 is a big exploration of who he is, what he wants and how he ended up the way he is."

Q: What was fake Locke/Man in Black referring to when he told Richard, "I haven't seen you since you were in chains"?
A: Richard might have been a slave on the Black Rock, where Sawyer discovered skeletons chained to the hull of the ship in Season 3.

WHEW...so that explains everything...right????

@jaytch - Dang...that was great! All I have to say, other than I don't think it was toooo Spoiler-ish...I think Carlton and Damon decided to ease our suffering a bit by confirming and/or denying the little things that had been eating at our brains.

@jaytch- wow, that's a heck of a lot to post! But it definitely answers a lot of questions I have, or at least gives me some clues for a few questions and answers a couple others. ;)

Lost is a puzzle and just like any puzzle a most pieces are full of color, but a few are just the pale blue sky that you muddle through. I trust the writers and I prefer they keep me questioning rather then give up all the answers. If we were grading on a Bell Curve, I’m sure it would still be a B. Thank you for those who are keeping the good thoughts flowing.

@Betheaux, @fanolost, @Mr F., @Cam Jenn3,
Wonderful read, thank you for letting me peek in your ideas. Only one question, how is it that Flockie could be in the “upper section” of the temple when with Ben. I get smokie down below when they fell through the hole. How much access do you think he has and in which forms? Great point on the torture by Roussio (sp) thing that was you Betheaux.

@Victoria
I so get the 2 year old thing, you were defended above. FYI.

well i am with the camp that think that any episode of lost is a good episode. I love watching it, but i was disappointed somewhat.

Ok, so after reading most of the posts I want to clear some things up in my mind.

1st: the island timeline is definitely 2007, it has to be. ajira is there, sunny in philly guy was shutting up other guy about it, plus when Hurley said that Jacob was dead all the others on the beach WITH SUN saw the flare that Dogen lit. So yes, Jin and Sun are definitely in the same time, on the island.

2nd: this sickness. here is my guess: Rousseau's team was never infected, it was Rousseau that was infected. The writers alluded several times about her craziness, the scene we saw when she killed her crew could be because she was crazy, we all thought that was possible. Also, perhaps he couldn't 'get her to willingly take the pill' and they(her team)were all on a mission to kill her. I don't think the sickness means death, but perhaps it means awareness, like eating the forbidden fruit or something.

I still think this is a good vs. evil/bad conflict but i am no longer sure who are the 'good guys' (jacob or mib). i mean really in a war don't both sides think they are good and the other is bad?

Not to mention all the other answers I gained from reading the posts no offence
@jaytch! you posted right before me and haven't gotten a chance to read. WOW and by looks of it I can wait to! Happy Happy Happy

@betheaux & lovesteamykeamy -- Re: spoiler warning...just wanted to make sure that those who don't want to know ANYTHING (including producer remarks) were fairly warned:)

@twistie -- no offense taken. I'm going to go stick my fingers in some ice...they're smokin' after that post!!! Read you all tomorrow.

Not the most spectacular episode, but interesting...
So in temple-time Rousseau has been dead for 3 years.
Yep, Sayid has the sickness. So does Claire.
Could it be the ring Sawyer wanted to give Juliette at one time belong to his mother?
Aldo is an ass, I don't blame Kate I would have taken him out in a prison break, too.
What did Jacob's dying do to the presumed healing pool? Whatif someone randomly fell in? Would they then have the sickness too?
Meanwhile in LA Xworld, Claire is going to have theopportunity to raise Aaron? Wonder if she will ultimately take it?
Sidebar: When will we see Ana-Lucia again?

Aren't we supposed to find out about the whispers? When the losties entered the temple, Kate heard the whispers & seemed to disappear, then Jack...

Also, 'the list" has been a big deal from the beginning. IMO that's why Jacob told Hurley to take Sayid to the Temple.

@jaytch- Congrats on finding so many answers. One juicy one was the rememberance that Ben instructed Richard to take the gang to the Temple because its the last safe place on the island. Cindy being in the Temple was a big fat clue that it was the same Others. Also the dude talking to Kate about her escape from the Hydra. Same Others. As far as them being barefoot, if you have ever been in a Temple its a custom to generally remove your shoes. (And no, Fanolost, I'm not going Life of Brian on you and inferringf this is a whole religion based on wearing one sandal or no sandals. Just a way of honoring the sanctity of the temple, keeping the dirt from the outside world from being tracked in.) :)

@KT Dr. Chang (aka Halliwax, aka Candle) had all nonessential personnel evacuated from the island on the submarine prior to the bomb going off. So this could explain how Ethan is off island in the flash sideways

@Jenn 3- Here is my unofficial accounting of the Deadwood actors, there roles on Deadwood and their roles on LOST.

Kim Dickens - Joanie Stubbs (Cassidy- Sawyer’s baby Momma)

Paula Malcolmson - Trixie (Colleen- shot by Sun on Des’ boat)

Robin Weigert - Calamity Jane (Juliet’s sister Rachel)

William Sanderson - E.B. Farnum (Oldham the DI Hippie Torturer)

Titus Welliver - Silas Adams (infamous Man in Black)

John Hawkes - Sol Star (Lennon- no relation to John?)

@CAM- "Hello, my name is CAM and I'm a Factoholic."
Damn, I wish I was there when you posted, this morning, so darn cool.

Oh, no wait, just thought of a better line for you to use next time (borrowing from the Princess Bride).

Hello, my name is CAM Montoya, you killed the facts, prepare to die! :)

Great name for Flocke/MiB/Smokie (found @ Lostpedia): "The Locke Dressed Monster"

Dogen stated that he "was brought to the island like everyone else" to Jack ...Was he in a plane that crashed on the island ? Did he catch a submarine ride from Ann Arbour ? Was he on deck of the freighter ?

My random Lost thought for the night: does anyone else think we are going to find out that we already know who the adoptive dad in Brentwood (who took off) is?

It would have to be someone we know from flashbacks, or someone who would have been on the island if the timeline wasn't changed.

This season sucks so far. This is not the Lost I know and love. Please let it get better...

******************************************************************************************
Okay guys, how many more people are going to waste a post with negativity towards Kate, or D- Grades for the episode!? Enough already!
******************************************************************************************

So as for everyone else, I've really enjoyed your posts this year so far. I love how carefully the characters seem to be chosing their words this season, it's like someone mentioned before, that EVERY little scene has some meaning to what's really going on on this Island. I kind of hope we do have to watch every episode over again with new eyes... I've watched LOST since the beginning, and other than the odd episode here and there, or specific scenes for clues, I've never watched any of the seasons over again. I'll be looking forward to watching all 6 seasons regardless, mind you! It would take this whole cyclical theme to the next level if we all needed to for complete understanding!

@sk - I think Dogen just meant that he was brought there, not native to the island. How they got there doesn't necessarily matter (My money's on the submarine.)

@flashest monk -- Personally the episodes I'm chomping at the bit to see are next week's Lighthouse Dharma Station and Richard's epi on March 23rd. It will be interesting to see if they give us really meaty answers:)

does anyone wonder where are michael and walt? in season one, walt was like a visonary to see the "polar bears" etc. but they didn't make this plane ride. (the newest ride = oceanic 815). so if they aren't on there, but walt had the polar vision. wehre does that leave ms. read head who is now dead, yet a little girl who daniel knew. we forget the polar existance.? does it have to do with MIB/smokie?

@jaytch, twistie, jenn3 - how appropriate it is it that a Ben-centric epi is on my birthday.... woo hoo!!

And the flipping theory - because they're cycling (theory) and it's just one side vs. another and some times on group is top dawg, and then it's the others' turn... makes me think the SICKNESS is not a life/death thing (and yes I've written it before) but more of a - this pawn needs to flip to the other side - so one person's sickness is another group's gain?

And I do think Dogen is trying to teach his flock (pun intended) to relinquish the humanness and live 'outside/above' the human mind - more buddhist - thus their secretiveness... still mulling this new idea over, but it seems viable.

@espenn - Walt is in NY and Michael is dead (course we know that means nothing), but I'm not concerned about them. I do want to know where Rose, Bernard and Vincent are...

I also think the writers are turning away from a lot of unanswered plotlines, to concentrate on what they believe should be finalized by series end. Heck, they've said it. We know Dharma was experimenting - we know Chang had a time portal - so the polar bear, for me, is wrapped up enough...

Google Dogen Zenji and see how he is connected to "Dharma". He was a Zen Master bron in 1200 and died in 1253. Wrote "Treasury of the eye of the true Dharma."

@jaytch - I love it, they confirmed a lot of what I had been thinking, but they say it so much better than I can! I find it interesting that the reason the characters are so different in the sideways world is becuase Jacob didn't interfere... that makes so much sense!

@flashest monk - ooooh! I love the Princess Bride quote, nicely played!

@ LOST eyeland --- thanks for agreeing on all the Kate-Hate and Daniel's D- grade

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

When I looked at the "coming attractions" following the episode this week, I think the NARRATOR said "Coming up in LOST's final season" --- so I do not hink we will see all they showed next Tuesday.

(Just don't want people to be upset about that!)

so will Jin ask Claire for help in finding Sun? I would think he would want to interrogate Justin considering he made comments about the Ajira plane to Aldo. plus justin seems to trust jin and commenting that he is one of them...maybe contenders for Jacob's role? that is what Bram was referring to when he mentioned "a candidate" when talking about Frank?

I wasn’t able to watch this week’s episode until last night but I have to say, I think it was better than a D.

I know we’re all anxious for answers but obviously, there is still some story to be built and I believe there were clues or information in this episode that will be key later.
Looks like they are still pulling in characters and story lines that will complete the story.

I think the next couple of weeks will continue on this line and then the last 4 – 5 weeks will be the true closing, answering all the questions (I hope) and tying everything up for us.

while i have thoroughly enjoyed hurley's lines - the best this episode was his reference to Jack's private talk with Sayid.

"yeah private talks kinda freak me out because they usually leave me having to do something i don't quite understand...jack respons I'm right there with ya."

But Miles's lines are even better. first he is asking sayid questions about what he saw while dead. "so nothing? white light? angels? dead relatives?" then "we'll be in the food court if you need us". he is such the cryptic character i love his facial expressions through the whole sayid experience. can't wait to hear his take. hope we get more hurley/miles one on one time. it is my fav and still think a spin off show where they just talk about time travel issues explaining various points of view would be highly entertaining

so when jack was saying be careful to kate after dividing up tasks ( you take care of sayid and i will take care of james..)
did he lean in for a kiss? it was subtle but it seemed like he was starting to when kate walked away

also i wonder what dogen was writing in his journal when lennon asked him if he just lied to sayid

When Desmond was sitting beside Jack on the plane, there was some kind of recognition on Jack's face. When Kate was hijacking the cab at the airport and catches a glance of Jack, there is also that same look, one of familiarity.

Do you think that the other Losties will experience or sense the same feeling when they encounter each other in the sideways timeline ?

@sk -

Here is an exerpt frmo what jaytch posted yesterday:

Whoever had the theory about Jacob being the evil one may be on to something. The writers definitely have something up their sleeve. It is just too simple to be black and white, and I am waiting for the unexpected reversal, the big switcheroo.

@Ashley "The Locke Dressed Monster" AWESOME

@Dave G - good find thanks

@fanolost: Nice, another thing to toast to on a lost night Happy B-Day to come. I hope it is an extra special eps for you.

OUPS!

@twistie, thanks! It's a ben night - it's all good!! Plus I told family celebrate weekend before/after but not day of - cuz it's Lost night... heheheh

@CAM, two smoke monsters... very interesting. I have been wondering about this as well, mainly due to Smokie being in/near the temple on multiple occassions.

Not sure I fully buy into it, but worth considering. I recall someone, maybe Locke, claiming it was beautiful and white light. Others like Eko seemed terrified by it in his encounter. One light, one dark? Hmmmm.

Then I read Jaytch's (great) post on some answers from CC/DL. The last one about Richard in chains was intriguing to me. Sawyer found skeletons in chains inside the Black Rock, alluding to the idea that maybe Richard was on the ship. What if Richard was on the ship and died on it, leaving his body available to a shape shifting cloud of smoke? It would definitely explain his lack of aging that has been confusing us. What if Richard is a smoke monster too?

Mostly just thinking out loud above, still not sure I am ready to buy stock in the idea, but it has grabbed my attention. A good "what if..." :)

@Mr. F - that's plausible, but then wouldn't more of the Black Rock crew be like him? Why him?

Because I feel Jacob/MIB are far older - like ancient Egypt (and could then build a Mayan-type temple during off-island excursions, or someone bringing that to them) - Richard could have been chained in an Egyptian vessel - they were oared by slaves.

@Mr. F - Dark/Light smokies? Interesting.... Thinking further on this concept, I am not completely sold on two smokies, but maybe smokie in his stages of life. I think that when Flocke said he wanted to go home that he was referring to the temple. Maybe he was allowed to reside there while being controlled by Ben/Others, but once he found Locke and therefore a way out he was banished from the Temple.... now he wants back and he wants it the way it used to be.... back when he knew Richard in chains, perhaps???

Again... just throwing out some thoughts.

@fanolost, I havent thought it out very much yet, I was just piecing together what CAM said about 2 smokies. Not sure how it all ties into what the heck is going on in the show.

I dont think Richard became Smokie #2, I am proposing Smokie #2 became Richard. He simply picked a body off a slave ship (be it Egyptian or Black Rock) and it just happened to be Richard's dead body.

My initial thoughts are maybe Jacob is simply Jacob. And then there is two smokies, one who serves him and the other who resents him. Let's say one smokie is like the good son, doing whatever Jacob tells him to do, like an advisor role to the island folk. Maybe to appear special he simply stays in Richard form when he appears to them. The guy who appears to never age is special to them and should not be harmed.

Then we have the original smoke monster, who doesnt mind taking multiple forms to accomplish his goal of being free from Jacob. Finding a loophole to kill him and be free to return home.

Like I said, just thinking out loud based on some previous posts and seeing if it can work into some sort of theory.

Who/What built the statue???

I agree - Jacob is Jacob. The more I think about it, however I am not sure that this is really a battle of good v. evil. I think that maybe Jacob is the lesser of two evils, but I do not believe he is "good." It could be that both Jacob and MIB believe they are the one looking out for the best interests of the Island but clearly their ideas differ...

@ CAM - I dont think this ever was good vs evil. Like you said, it was a matter of trying to "protect" the island and that in itself is a matter of personal beliefs.

Maybe the spring is dirty because Vincent got in there when nobody was watching and it clogged the filter.

@Jim LOL! Nice...

But I am fairly certain it was the death of Jacob that made the spring water change from clear to dirty.

@CAM, I agree as well, not good vs evil. I thought it was at first but that is just to simple and lord knows their is nothing simple about this island and this show.

I believe it has to do with destiny and changing the course of man. Will we as mankind figure out how to live peacefully before we end up destroying ourselves and eliminating our entire species. Or something along those lines.

@bb- I'm pretty sure the aliens had something to do with that statue... ;)

Okay, not really sure, just a wild guess.

Speaking of Vincent... Who was his original owner? Was it Michael & Walt or did they inherit him?

@Jaytch, it was Brian who owned Vincent, the guy who Mike's girlfriend ran off with.

@LSK... dont go dismissing aliens yet. You may be on the right track as crazy as that sounds. :)

@Mr F. I'd love it if that happened, just so I could say I threw that theory out to one of my friends...

I just said it because I've got my own form of cabin fever... all this snow and being stuck inside for a week. ;)

@Mr. F. -- thanks.

@lovesteamykeamy -- Hang in there. This too shall pass...some day:) Just think, the time change is only 5 Sundays away so more Sun to melt all that white stuff.

@jaytch- that just brightened it all! 5 Sundays! :)

I'm thinking about maybe a trip to the Island for a quick thaw... which way to the Lamp Post? ;)

@lovesteamykeamy -- Can you pick me up on the way? I can be ready by 6PM:)

WE INTERRUPT YOUR REGULAR PROGRAMMING FOR A SPECIAL NOTE...

I hate to be the b$#%h but I am a little happy that the east coast is getting a taste of the 4 blizzards in the row we had around here in December... hasn't snowed in a month and I still have drifts taller than me waiting to thaw... sorry guys, but it was bound to happen eventually...

NOW BACK TO LOST...

Claire got out of the car, but Kate still had her baggage. Get it? Haha at least I crack myself up :)

something i posted after the season premier since it ties in to what some of you are talking about:

oh yeah and i watched the pop up version of the incident finally and when translating the rug that jacob was weaving they said the last line said something like, only the dead see the end of war, is that maybe why jacob didnt fight back when ben killed him, he realized that he had to die in order to win/live?
Posted by: buttercup | February 3, 2010 09:50 AM

one of the other others mentioned that danielle had been dead for years...and unless im mistaken, the ajira flight crashed a few years into the future (for the original losties, current time for us). so i think the flashbacks are truly flashbacks (back to 2004) and the original losties will find another way back onto the island before this season is up.

should have read thru comments prior to posting. i see my theory is already accepted by many others. :)

@billy- I don't doubt that the Losties are destined to save the island in the LAX time continuum. The problem I am having with that scenario is that the reveal from Jack's window seat on 815 was that the island complete with four-toed foot and New Otherton swingset was under water. So how? Do they somehow skip the space-time continuum where the island isn't under water. I know the writers can get us there, I'm just not sure how?

So, if Eloise is familiar with all or some of the phenomenon on the island, why wouldnt she warn Jack about Esau impersonating dead folks ala Locke, Christian, etc. Esp since he was toting a dead body back to the island. Did the shoes have anthing to do with that? I just think there's more to all that than just recreating 815.

deelzbub- I agree, and since Eloise once was a direct report to Jacob, and could be argued that she was following his bidding, maybe Jacob planned his own demise for some reason not yet clear.

Was it my imagination, or was Jacob standing there at the airport waiting on a cab when Kate hijacked Claire's? Gotta watch that seq. again.

caught the Star Wars ref.

didn't hate this episode, but after last week's, it was pretty weak.

thought it was cool that Sawyer had the foresight to hide some shit under the floorboards.

the old purgatory/hell theory popped back into my head while the torturer was being tortured.

Claire at the bus stop

Thought it was too easy for Kate to find Claire. "But hey, It's TV" Thats what my dad used to say.

has anyone said that maybe in the flash-sideways they can't find Christian's coffin/body because maybe he didn't really die? I know it seems like a stretch, but if things seem to be the opposite for everyone (Hurley being the luckiest guy, Jack being the nervous one, Rose being calm, Shannon staying in Aussie, etc) then perhaps Christian didn't die, but because Jack and everyone are in this crazy new world or whatever, they don't realize what's really going on. That and Christian is connected to the island somehow (I'm still convinced they're related to Jacob, lol).

Way too far behind to catch up!! Work has me all tied up!!

Just wanted to say in-case any one is posting as me, as I've heard on Facebook, that it is not me!!

I have not read anything & have not commented as I have no free time right now....but I will catch up hopefully this weekend!

I can only hope that Jenn3 & Fanolost & all the other Benwagoneers are keeping Ben alive w/o me!!! I do have faith in you gals!!

One quick shout out to Flashest: I so wish you would do your "own" Fringe re-cap, I did think of you last week! But then I wouldn't of had time to read it right now anyway-LOL!!

Anway, back to work...yes I have take work home for a-while! Miss all you guys!!

PS: to Mr. Factual....I soooo want to debate WHH!!! Another time:)

Has anyone watched "What Kate Did", from season 2 recently ? Is it deja vu similar, but not, to "What Kate Does"...I need to rewatch.

ok, for the record, it took me a whole season to accept time-jumping. i will be thoroughly pissed if it ends with anything to do with aliens.

interesting that someone posted that what the writers want us to focus on is the characters... i have been so busy trying to figure out the mystery behind the seemingly controlling parties that i seem to have forgotten to enjoy and pay attention to each individual character.

i have said it once and i will say it again, i don't think rousseau's team was 'infected' i think rousseau was and this is going to be very important in the whole jacob vs. MIB thing. and another one for the record - i refuse to call him esau...i don't think it is jacob and esau. hope i don't eat my words, but i just don't see this as a mirrored story about conflict of birthright

@Flashest monk... Did you catch the line by Arzt when he walks in front of Kate's cab..." I'm walkin' here "... Shades of Ratso Rizzo !!!

Kudos to Josh Holloway for upping his game this season. His scene on the dock was so heart breaking and powerful. Throwing Juliet`s ring in the ocean...just gut-wrenching. Just like Desmond, when he tossed Penny`s ring in the river.

I hope Sawyer finds his mojo soon. He has gone through so much. Big changes. After all, if Desmond was able to find Penny, maybe Sawyer will reconnect with Juliet, the love of his life. :)

If there is a Locke on the beach, with Richard, and a Locke stiff lying on the beach, and a Locke in a wheelchair talking to Jack, that makes 3 Lockes !!! Imagine if there was a showdown between the Lockes...

@sk- I didn't make the connection with Artz and Ratzo (really similar dispositions when you think about it). You are right on about that little homage to Midnight Cowboy.

@Tootsie- can't see doing a Fringe diary for the three of us who watch the show. I have grown really fond of Walter, Peter and Olivia. The writers have done a great job developing characters during the second season. I just wish they would stay on point with the two worlds colliding theme, instead of using it for subtext.

@Mr- Have you given up on your Djinn theory? I think it plays pretty well with the idea of more than one Smokie (some that do harm, some that do good? A protector of Jacob and another channeled by MiB.)

@Tootsie, another round of WHH debates, I feel like we may be stuck in a "cycle" of our own. :)

@Flashest, not giving up on it, just stepped back and re-evaluating everything. I would be very curious to see what others have to say on what or whom MiB/Smokie is. Djinn, Alien, the Devil himself, etc...

I have also been trying to work out the "rules" between Jacob and Smokie based on wishes from a magic lamp. Maybe if I can make some headway on the rules I can build up some support for this flimsy theory. Not giving up yet...

Anyone make a connection of Jin and Sun NOT being married in LA X alt timeline? I have done some reading elsewhere and saw that Sun was referred to as Ms Paik and neither of them had on wedding rings. I havent gone back to rewatch it yet and check it out for myself.

TGIF !

@Flashest & Tootsie & the third person... Is it time for the Fringe team to get to the island and help out our castaways ? LOL !

@Mr. F - I don't think they're not marrit - but who they are at LA X is not who 'they are as we have known them.' So maybe the rings are off for a reason we don't know yet. It's Sun and Jin, but different. Just like what is happening on island (different time).

I'm still sorting through what the differences mean. And the upcoming Ben episode should provide a whole 'different' side of Ben we don't know.

Like opposites. Not Star Trek universe opposites (though I loved Spock in that one) - but differences that change who they align themselves with.

Fringe. It's not on for a spell... and I haven't a clue what Olivia is gonna do with her knowledge that Peter is in the wrong universe. Obviously, she has strong feelings for him because she SAW the glimmer - and she only sees it when she's scared. So ... and of course, if those universes have to have balance - what balanced out stealing Peter? Or are we still seeing the fallout from that crossover? More Nimoy is needed...

fanolost- Fringe would be so much better if they focused on that storyline instead of being X-Files for three episodes and then having one episode of parallel universes. On thing about LOST, they move the plot along despite having a cast of THOUSANDS (or maybe it just seems like that.)

Mr F- Since Jacob was at Sun and Jin's Wedding, could it be they are not married because they didn't get his special Wedding Blessing (and corresponding touch) in the alternate continuum?

NOTHING is left to chance on LOST......

At the start of every episode, the stars of the show are listed in alphabetical order every week. This has been the case since the start of the show.

Did anyone else notice that THIS WEEK, Emilie de Ravin (CLAIRE) was listed before Henry Ian Cusick (DESMOND)??

Everyone else was listed in the proper order.

Any theories about this???

A LOT TO BE LEARNED FROM ACTUAL TRANSLATION. Last night, I had my friend translate what Dogen has actually been saying rather than taking the translations provided by his assistant. Apparently, Dogen said "If a plane crash in middle of forest, and nobody around, does it make a sound?"

JK. Sorry for the silly posts, I just didn't get much out of this episode...but still looking forward to the future ones (...or is it the past ones...I forget).

@ Jim - That translation is great!

@bb - I highly doubt the powers that be have the time to fiddle with the order of the actors listed in the credits. I attribute this to a lazy production assistant.

billy | February 11, 2010 04:45 PM got me to thinking...
So I know the writers said no FF or FB but I keep thinking, They get off the plane at LAX and then go about their lives for 3 years and interact with each other then somehow all end up on flight 316 and end up on the island in 2007 anyway...
Any thoughts????

But wait... It's underwater. Damn!

@ Why is Kate Alive:

Best handle ever...Kate and Juliet both should've died together and we can all be happy

I think we all forgot about Mr. Widmore. My theory is that FLocke is actually Widmore. He is the one who is using Locke's body, and is disappointed in his "others" for the way he was exiled. Rich people can do things like take over dead people if they want to.

The Jacob/FLocke interaction reminded me of something. In the bible, in the Garden of Eden, God informs Adam and Eve that they are not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. They end up eating from the Tree (after the serpent's temptation) and God becomes angry and banishes the couple from the Garden. Now, on the surface that seems like a cut and dry story. But, I am reminded of a different interpretation. Most will agree that the serpent is equivalent to the devil, or Lucifer - a "bad" or "evil" character. But, Lucifer means "light bearer," and, in the context of the above story, he/it is the one who leads humans to the "knowledge" possessed by God. Some people see this as "enlightening" or "freeing" humans from the life God made for them. Had Eve not eaten the fruit, humans would be in a state of oblivion (remember, in the bible Adam and Eve had NO IDEA they were naked until they ate the fruit). One can read this how they wish, but on the surface, it seems that God did not want humans to have the same knowledge he/she/it has/had. The serpent allowed people to obtain this previously forbidden knowledge.

What does this have to do with LOST? I'm not sure, but I THINK that Jacob might be the God character and FLocke the serpent. This could be why FLocke is "disappointed" with the people on the beach. They were following Jacob, the one trying to keep them subjugated and not FLocke, the one who opened them up to knowledge.

What do you all think?

@sandra Remember when Paulo and Nikki had the diamonds in Season 3 - maybe Sawyer kept one of those diamonds when he kept one of those diamonds

Also, I think that by showing us the island underwater in LA X, they are telling us that the LA X LOSTies are in an alternate universe...I don't thnk that they "end up on the island" I think the "flash-sideways" are to show us what would have happened had the Oceanic flight NOT crashed.

Probably not important but did anyone else think that the inside of the pill Yoko Ono (Lennon/Yoko...) prepared for Sayid looked a lot like the ashes used to stop smokie. So what are these ashes?
A pretty slow episode indeed and no satisfying responses to the same old questions...

@Lostintranslation:

I don't know, but the pill looked green-ish to me. The ashes look gray...anyone else have some insight?

I thought the pill was green too.

Jim - thanks for the translation. Keep 'em coming! :)

Kroxoli - I like your interpretation of the Jacob/FLocke situation. It seems way too easy to be simply good vs. evil. Perhaps it is but we're just not seeing through the right eyes, if you know what I mean.

Kruxoli & duffy...Do you think that when we saw Jacob fillet and eat the fish (the red herring), that is was a clue ?

Did the writers deliberately lead us in the wrong direction to think that Jacob is the good guy ?

Has anyone noticed that teenager Claire was sporting a band aid, left side - forehead, after the car accident with her mother. Then again, with Christian, her father, in Jacob's cabin... Same spot !

Several random thoughts:
Why was Jacob already invisible to everyone besides Hurley (who saw his eye in the cabin) in the previous seasons? I always thought he was dead so just visible to people with special abilities but then he appeared to be visible to everyone even Ben and actually die so I got really confused. So who did Hurley see in this cabin???
I don't think that MIB is a divinity or some kind of spirit, I believe once he was a man like Jacob but something happened to them (perhaps exposure to magnetism or something...I pray for a rational explanation on this one) and they started to have supernatural powers, just like Hurley and Miles who can communicate with dead people (which I hope is gonna be explained somehow).
Did someone comment on Desmond being on the plane and suddenly not there anymore? Some theories? I think he's travelling between the different realities although it doesn't explain why his body disappeared from the plane (only his mind was travelling in time). We never knew exactly what happened when he blowed up the hatch (why he didn't die and found himself naked in the jungle), did we? Can't wait to see him again and all the other characters we left on the way (Eloise, Widmore, Penny, Charlie 1 and 2...).
There is definitly something funny with Christian's body which keeps disappearing although I can't quite wrap my mind around it. Everybody thought the coffin was empty on the island because MIB had possessed it but then Locke's body remained untouched although his appearance taken by MIB, just like Yemi. Has Christian be claimed like Claire and come back to life to accomplish MIB's will? Is the whole Shephard family destined to be 'claimed' by MIB, which would explain why everything has been done to prevent Aaron from staying on the Island and Jack from dying.
There's so many storylines that I wonder how everything is gonna be developed in one season, and more and more characters...Really happy that Hiroyuki Sanada joined the cast though, such a great actor.

@sk
I agree that the Sawyer scene ("James" outta respect for Juliet) was amazing. I think it was the best emotional scene acted out by anyone.
@ All Kate Hateres.
Time for me to be brave, I don’t hate Kate. Ok, I've said it, please don't banish me! I think she is doing the only thing she knows how to do, survive. And why are the boys off the hook? One question, if both of these hunks wanted you, what (who) would you do? Yep~ Nice thoughts.

While I don't fully hate Kate, I have to disagree about her not being selfish. She's not in a situation where both hunks want her. Her thing with Sawyer has been pretty unrequited for years island time (from when he jumped off the helicopter). That should have been obvious for her. If she was still carrying such a torch for Sawyer she should've jumped off the chopper with him. What happened was that back in the real world things got tough with Jack and she bolted to try and run back into Sawyer's arms. Saying she went back just for Claire, to me, is total BS. She went back for Sawyer too. Problem is, he doesn't want her. That's why she was crying on the dock. Purely selfish reasons. JMO

I will concede that she is back on the island partly for Claire, but she was also pining for Sawyer. Pretty naive on Kate's part. I mean, even Clementine's mom knew he wanted to get away from Kate when he jumped off the chopper and she wasn't even there! I think Kate wants whoever doesn't want her most of the time. All Jack needs to do is act like he doesn't care anymore and she'll come running back.

Hey Daniel

You should do a Facebook fan page for The Lost Diary...I bet it would have more fans than Brody Jenner. lol

@Sahara
Ahhh, but the kiss he gave her before he jumped off the plane would make me think different. Maybe he jumped off to save her life? Plus she had a baby on her lap. As far as her crying at the dock, I think she was crying because of what Sawyer said that some people were just meant to be alone. We are talking a lot of life and death type extreme emotions in play here. She may just care for both of them.

Next, I do believe that she is trying to unite mom & tot. They make a lot of point towards that like the shopping sense where lost Aaron and turning around when she saw the baby stuff in the Clair’s bag in LA X. Remember she has her own longing of being with her mother. (Now mommy deserves to be hated!) How much could it mess you up if your mom would choose a looser drunk over her own daughter? Plus step daddy was always hitting on her. I don’t love Kate, but there are a lot of people on the island who have done A LOT worse and seem to get off the hook. Sawyer is the tree frog killer / medicine hider? Sayid wasn't always nice. And how about Ben, he even has groupies. I even find myself on and off that wagon. Just saying maybe being freaked out and running to the safest arms doesn’t make her hate worthy, just maybe a little emotionally weak.

@Sahara
She seemed happy with Jack until he wouldn't help with Aaron on the mainland. He was the one that wanted everyone to lie when they got back. I believe she really does love Jack and would have wanted to live happily ever after. Side note; remember in the sub Saywer called her Freckles. Plus, wasn't she really there to save jack from blowing himself up with a bomb? Could we also look at it that she followed Jack back to the island? I’m sure there are a lot of holes in this but…
Forgot about the Clementine's mom statement Good point.

Claire had her ultrasound done by Dr Ethan Goodspeed at the "Angel of Mercy" Hospital...Makes me think of all of the saint cities that Locke went to visit in the Jeremy Bentham episode.

The date on the ultrasound is Oct.22 2004. When Ethan was on the island, he was shot 6 times at close range by Charlie two days before that date, trying to abduct Claire...Now Ethan's line to Claire that "Mother nature has gotten a little ahead of herself" in the hospital makes sense.

On the island Claire gave birth to Aaron on Nov.1 2004. That day is also known as All Saints Day. Mmmm.

Dogen is seen spinning the baseball on his desk. Did you know that there are 108 double stitches on a regulation baseball...108!!!

If you love Lost and Valentines Day, check this out...LOL!!!

http://bit.ly/aLLsaX

@sk- LOL. I'm not even a fan of that holiday (esp. not this year, but not going there.) and those had me laughing. :)

Anyone catch Michael Emerson on E's "The Soup"? funny stuff. Go-Ben!

did anyone else immediately think of Matrix choice "between the red pill or the blue pill" when dogen gave jack the 'medicine' pill?

Daniel,
I've been following your blog quite some time - really enjoying your comments and thoughts. But is it me, or are you not into things this season? You seem....distracted...not yourself. Everything ok there, man? Perk up - it's the last season and while yes, this past week's was lame, i think we're in for a great ride out. Rev up your sarcasm/enthusiasm! Besides, not only is it the last season of Lost, it's the last season of The Lost Diary (i presume lol) :)

Daniel...Will you be My Valentine ? ...XOXOXO... It's time to come back.

Tootsie- I loved Michael Emerson on the Soup. He did those lines "bug-eyed" as only he can do in character as Ben. (later on Joel McHale was doing a Ben impersonation as well- trippie)

I like how they both were mocking "24" for having Jack stabbed in the gut and then later its only a flesh wound (bringing main characters back from the dead- so to speak) For those of you on the Benwagon (Pitiful wretched souls that you are) here's a link to the clip from E's Soup.

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/the_soup/b166989_losts_michael_emerson_found_on_soup.html

Time for Warren Zevon, in spirit, to join the Benwagon " Poor Poor Pitiful Me "... Go Ben Go !

I re-watched a movie called "CUBE" It starts off with the opening of a eye ( just like on Lost ) people who do not know each other are placed in this mystorious box that seems isolated from the rest of the world ( Like the island ) The box is a puzzle that then need to figure out in order to survive ( Like trying to figure out how the island works ) There are numbers on all sides of the box they need to figure out in order to get out ( Hurley had numbers ) and to see the numbers you need to open these doors that resemble a hatch type look to it. ( There was a hatch on the island ) This all could mean nothing at all. But could it?????

So are we going to learn ANYTHING about the NUMBERS before the end of the series?

@Twistie- I agree that Kate has had it bad and acts accordingly. All I'm saying is that she is being selfish, for whatever reason, and she always has acted that way. I think she is finding Claire more to ease her own guilt than any sort of altruistic purpose, and I think that she is back to her same old games with Jack and Sawyer.

She was probably trying to save Jack when she got on the sub to get Sawyer and Juliet, but she didn't think about the danger she was putting them in, only of her own selfish reasons.

I am totally sticking with the idea that Kate was crying on the dock because she realized Sawyer didn't want her, that he had been really, truly in love with Juliet, and that he was going to propose. I think seeing the engagement ring made Kate upset, and the only think about Sawyer's speech that made her upset was her own realization that he didn't want her. She was sitting right there and he was talking about being destined to be alone; i.e. not with Kate.

Lol sorry, I guess I am a little anti-Kate after all. I like the character, she is well written, but she is very selfish and self-serving, IMO.

According to Lostpedia...MIB took the form of the Medusa spiders that paralyzed Nikki and Paulo. Was anyone else on Lost Diary aware of this ? I sure wasn't.

The lady that was going to be an adoptive parent to Claire's unborn child is named Lindsay Baskum...It is an anagram for " Used By Malkins ". Richard Malkinis is the psychic that Claire went to see.

PS...Do change the record and stop all the Kate hate.

I re-watched " Because You Left " last night and noticed something that I never saw the first time. When Richard is treating Locke's wound, Ben says to the Locke who is standing beside him in the tree area " This must be quite the out-of body experience." Richard concurs that there is "something different about Locke".

When Richard approached Locke, and the camera switched to Locke's perspective, it looked like Locke was viewing Richard through a black mask, peering out from behind the mask. Has anyone else noticed this strange visual ? Or have I completely lost it.

Sawyer also said something very revealing..." I ain't starting over. I know that I can't change." Is this foreshadowing technique a big clue ?

Opps...should be Malkins.

When Jack goes back to the funeral home, and breaks in to see Locke, Jack has a band-aid on his forehead, the same spot as his half sister, Claire. Whoa man !!!

Happy LOST DAY!

@SK Thanks for the info, I'll have to rewatch that eps.

Happy LOST Tuesday everyone. Unfortunately I can't keep up with the posts....too much work :( But I'm sure the Benwagon is going strong. Team Ben all the way.(come on flashest...you know you want to get on the Benwagon!)

HOORAY! LOST Tuesday is here again! Can't wait --- BIG fan of the Olympics, however, LOST is ending in 4 months --- I only have to wait 4 years for the next Winter Games! LOL

I like the Olympics too, but I love Lost. Can't wait for tonight

LOST in a few more hours! Hope we get a few more answers tonight.

@lovesteamykeamy - each week we get closer to seeing your man again. Wonder what he'll be like in the alt line.
I've been thinking about Sawyer (no surprise there) in the alt line. I think he's not the same either. He seemed sincere when he told Hurley to keep the fact that he's a Lotto winner to himself rather than the con man trying to get over. We shall see. I also think that the ring (for Juliet) may have been his Mom's and that is why he forrowed it away under the floor boards. There were other items in that box too.

Hopefully he'll be around the same, it'd be weird if he was some mild-mannered guy. Although I can't see that happening. Can't wait though :)

Watching the episode again... the guy who cut off Kate's handcuffs, finally figured out who he reminded me of... Mr. Friendly. Just till he took the glasses off... not that it matters much...

holy crap balls.

just putting this out there for those of you who watch tonight - shephard wins out.

The Substitute - Wow! One of those mind-blowing episodes. Lock-Centric never disappoints :)

also - can shephard be aaron? he is one technically

If Daniel gives this one a "bad" grade-I am so done here!!! Well-I would stick around for all you guys. Daniel only shows up just for the "diary" part anyway-LOL!!
Good thing my hubby was gone, cause @ the end-all I was doing was screaming-"The numbers"-"The numbers"

Catch u guys tommorrow!!

I agree Tootsie. Great episode. As soon as I saw the names on the ceiling I knew what it was and started talking to myself that it was the numbers! Best part of the epi - no Kate. Love that the writers have such humor. Ben admitting he killed Locke was great. Lapidus had a great reaction. Can't wait to see Daniel's grade, but doesn't really matter, now, does it!

ssarah - So were Claire an Christian. But it couldn't be them, bc they should technically be crossed off. Also - which Kwon? And no Kate.

Michael Emerson is on Jimmy Kimmel tonight.

man, that was a great episode! Inside Joke!

Since its Ash Wednesday, its appropriate to start the day with a reading from the Bible: Book of Genesis (28:11–19):

Jacob left Beersheba, and went toward Haran. He came to the place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! And behold, the Lord stood above it [or "beside him"] and said, "I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your descendants; and your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and by you and your descendants shall all the families of the earth bless themselves. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that of which I have spoken to you." Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I did not know it." And he was afraid, and said, "This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven."

Angels ascending and descending on Jacob's ladder, where did I see that recently?

So, now we know where the numbers came from. There was Jarrah, Shepherd, Reyes, Kwon, Locke, Ford....but no Kate. Jacob touched Kate so why isn't she on the wall? Hmmmmmm.

@flashest monk
Very appropiate, thank you. My mother would be very happy to know I am getting my daily dose of the Bible.
ok what else can I say but WOW! need to watch that again and again.
But which Kwon? My bet is on Jin.

In regards to which Kwon it was... After watching Jacob touch BOTH Sun and Jin, is it possible the Kwon in question could be Ji Yeon, their child?

I see others caught on that Kate was missing from the names on the ceiling, does this make her very important or not important at all?

Ben's eulogy for Locke was so Ben, started off all heart felt and sincere then Ben dropped the fact that he murdered Locke on Sun and Lapidus, classic Ben. Had me laughing at that one.

Lastly, Illana made reference to Flocke not being able to change faces anymore. Which I guess means whatever he had to go thru to get to where he is now, made it permanent. So how does this factor into the scene with Ben and Smokie under the temple wall? Who appeared as Alex to Ben?

For reference...

4. Locke
8. Reyes
15. Ford
16. Jarrah
23. Shephard
42. Kwon

The no Kate on the wall had me curious, but the best part of the episode to me was Ben as the OCD about the coffee European History teacher! It fits him so perfectly!!

I believe a person's place with respect to the island must have something to do with how they are portrayed off island. Ben, as teacher. Hugo as the owner of at least two companies (so he's pretty powerful). Jack, a healer, etc.

@ Mr. F:
I think when Alex appeared to Ben ala Smokie, she was just an apparition. I think Ilana meant now that he has a "real" body, this face is permanent, except he can still turn into smokie :) This to me means that he has not "impersonated" anyone else in all his time on the island. Wonder what she's gonna do with Jacob's ashes...and who is this kid? Aaron? Flocke didn't look happy to see him...and since Sawyer was able to see him too, he must be a real live human?

@ Sarah Badara:
I was thinking along the same line as you with "Shephard" not being Jack, but I thought it was Claire, not Aaron. Claire was technically a Shephard too right?

Who's the little kid Mock saw in the jungle? That's the biggest question I had from this epi. He said, "you can't kill him"
..not past tense.... got me thinking, is jacob really dead.
Sawyer saw the kid... Richard didn't. Hmm...

Ok, just read elsewhere that people think the kid meant: You can't kill Sawyer.
Hmm...

Maybe the ashes were taken by Ilana because of their value as protection against Smokey. Just like when Bram put the circle of ashes around himself in the temple, or the ashes around Jacob's cabin.

We know that Sawyer is a canidate, maybe that is why he could see the child, who my guess would be a young Jacob. OR huh, maybe he is the RULE MAKER/KEEPER of the Island. Remeber the first time flocky saw the boy, Richard did not see him. Also, were the boys arms bloody in his first showing? So much to rewatch.

I don't know who the kid is, been wondering about it... shouted at FLocke to say his name. I don't think it's Aaron, he looks too old. And who can't he kill? Sawyer? The new Jacob?

@ Genie - I also think the kid meant that he couldn't kill Sawyer, at least not until he decides which option. I think that Sawyer saw the kid because he is still in the running as a candidate. Not sure where this will all go though.

Very interesting that there was no Kate. At first I thought they were the names of the O6, but with no Kate and Ford being on there, I don't think that is it.

@ flashest - very appropriate

Ben. What can I say? Even though he was only on for a few minutes, he was fabulous. The ulogy was AMAZING. And as a teacher.....My heart grew 3 sizes for him yesterday (if that is possible as I am already a card carrying member of the BenWagon)!

Also, I had this thought....did Richard just pretend he didn't see the kid or did he really not see him. Is it possible the kid was Zach (of Zach and Emma)?

At the end, when FLocke gave Sawyer his three choices - and the last one was for FLocke and Sawyer to go together - "home" - I guess - did this strike anyone else like a fairy tale type enchantment? FLocke says he is captured, but once he was a man, he lived, he loved, etc. - it struck me so clearly at the end - the game between MiB and Jacob; you can't kill him; you changed the rules; Jacob brought you here - it is all one big enchantment that FLocke/MiB is trying break out of, with Sawyer or whomever will help him.

I am with Twistie on the kid, sure reminded me of what a young Jacob might look like. If I had to guess who he is, my money is on Jacob.

And rolling with Jenn3 here, I believe the kid was referring to Sawyer, Flocke can't kill Sawyer for whatever reason or rule.

Here is what lostpedia says about the kid so far:

A mysterious kid appeared, arms bloody, before Richard and the Man in Black (in the form of Locke). Richard did not see the boy, though it is unclear if this was simply due to him not looking up in time or not physically seeing the boy. Shortly afterward, the Man in Black and Sawyer encountered the boy again. This time, Sawyer saw him, and the Man in Black gave chase. He tripped and fell, and as he looked up at the boy, the child said "You know the rules. You can't kill him." The Man in Black became agitated, screaming "Don't tell me what I can't do!" ("The Substitute")

This reminded me that Flocke said the same thing Locke always said "Don't tell me what I can't do" Any thoughts?

Just blown away by this episode. I loved seeing the island from Smokey's point of view when he was flying around. Fantastic !!!

I don't know. To me, it didn't look like Flocke wanted to kill Sawyer. He had ample opportunity BEFORE that kid showed up. He genuinely wants Sawyer on his side.

Sorry to keep posting, but here is the casting call (from lostpedia) for the boy:

The casting call described him as "Teenage boy, caucasian, 12-14. Dirty blond hair. Wise beyond his years. He's got intense, searching eyes. He's dealt with a horrible family accident. Even at a young age, he has been put in charge of something very important, and it weighs heavily on his shoulders." [1]

@Jenn3
I think Ben pulled me on the wagon last night.

@ Jenn3:
Don't forget, Flocke didn't realize that Sawyer could see the boy.
Sawyer: Who's the kid?
Flocke: You can see him? Sawyer: Hell yeah I can see him

or something like that :)

He's bbbaaaccckkkk!! Ben is back! He's scheming on island... and I would have loved to have had him as a history teacher (as that was one of my BAs....)

I thought the kid was Aaron because the eyes (y'all remember we thought little Aaron was down syndrome or something??? at one epi at Kate's house).

And I thought 'you can't kill him' and did he not say you're not supposed to in another sentence - references Jacob. But being Lost - my bet is on it's Jacob for the supposed to and Sawyer/Ford for the other.

Off island Locke is not pretty. How extremely 'wrong' is it to take company funds with no intention of going to the convention? Puleezz - he deserved to be fired and he certainly shouldn't have been helped by Reyes - the other... I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around Hugo as Mr. Lucky...

I absolutely agree that Kwon is the kid - not the parents. Jin is gonna slowly fade away from his injuries (dirty trap...) and Sun won't be able to deal... so Kate will likely bring up the kid...

YAY! twistie! Welcome aboard, there is always room on the Benwagon.

Tootsie, fanolost - We got another recruit!!!!!!

I can't believe I forgot to mention this, the black and white stones on the scale! Just like backgammon and just like Adam and Eve. Were Jacob and MIB brothers? (see the casting call I just posted for the kid) Was the tragedy the death of their parents? Could their parents be Adam and Eve?

Also I take back my thought that the boy might have been Zach. Don't know what I was thinking.

All the names on the wall refer to men on the island. FORD (Sawyer) SHEPARD (Jack or Christian or Aaron [who, as far as I know, is NOT on the island], REYES (Hugo), LOCKE (John), JARRAH (Sayid), and KWON (Jin). It can't be a coincidence that NO WOMEN are on Jacob's list of candidates...No AUSTIN (Kate) no JULIET...

I posted the 6:42AM post last week but I think it plays into this weeks episode as well. FLocke told Richard something like "You've been doing his bidding and he (Jacob) NEVER TOLD YOU WHY." This looks like FLocke it trying to paint Jacob as someone who doesn't want everyone else to know what he knows. Also, FLocke offers Sawyer something...KNOWLEDGE of why he is on the island...

What do you all think?

Was that a baby crab or a spider on dead Locke's head, lying on the beach, "getting ripe", according to Lapidus ? Ha! Ha! Love it.

@ SK:

100% spider! And, dead Locke had his (Shepard's) shoes on...

@Jenn3 – Can I be on the BenWagon but only on the LA Reality side? Like Fanolost, one of my BA’s is in History as well. I could see sitting in the teacher’s lounge, drinking coffee with Ben and discussing the meaning of Nietzche’s Beyond Good and Evil (as it applies to a certain TV show). While I admire his chutzpah, I can’t get my hands around Ben’s ethics in the island reality. Doing a Eulogy and in the middle admitting both that he murdered the deceased and that his victim was a better man then he will ever be, is WHACK! So one foot on the BenWagon (kind of like one foot on a banana peel.)

I completely agree that Sawyer will be the new Jacob. Kinda goes with his statement that he is meant to be alone forever.

@sk - that was a crab atop dead Locke.

OK, here's a really odd thought: we are all assuming MIB is a man.

We know MIB takes other bodies - and yes, we've seen males. But who is to say....

That MIB is actually female, who, as the game/time/cycle has played, she figures out having a male form gets her more recruits, and assists her living on the island. Historically speaking, being male would be advantageous - as women were chattel up until recently... (with exceptions of course)

So, Adam and Eve can still be Jacob and MIB - but when they were young and innocent.

Maybe the reason no women are listed on the ceiling is because long ago MIB stopped taking on that form - and Jacob knew that males would be needed?

Am I making any sense?

For all the questions about the boy and if his arms were bloody... just looked at the pic up on lostpedia, yup, he has bloody arms.

Just had to do a presentation thing for work, and found myself wishing I could talk about LOST, because it's more comforting to me and I can talk without nerves, lol. Scared me a little. ;)

@Fanolost
You are making sense.
@flashest monk
Ok I may be waaaay off base here, but is there anywhere in the Bible that speaks of men having a different role then women in heaven? I know that women cannot become priests. Could this be why no women are on the list? Maybe because women are the “mother/nurturer” they would find it difficult to do the “judging/punishing” part.

Ok now am I making any sense? lol

Sawyer was listening to Iggy Pop and The Stooges, " Search and Destroy ", when Locke comes a calling at Dharmaville. Perfect song choice for Sawyer to be drinking whisky to.

@SK. Glee and I both laughed when we heard him rock'n out. Yes Perfect and so many great one liners I gotta give it an A+

Sawyer's classic line, or one of them..." Well I guess I better put my pants on!" Great writing.

The writers re-used another actor, just read at least (I'm bored at work today, never get things done day after LOST day. ;) ), the chick who was interviewing Locke after getting fired (what type of animal would you describe yourself as...) was in Season 3 as the person Hurley's dad hired to be the "psychic" he and Hurley went to to convince Hurley he wasn't cursed...

One half of Flashest is better than none at all...
Tootsie, Jen3, Twistie, the Benwagon is loadin' up...I love it!
How great is Katy Segal? And how important is it that Locke seemed to embrace his fate off-Island, even as far as to laugh when the sprinklers came on. FANTASTIC ep!

Daniel is up !!!

Hello. This is kind of an "unconventional" question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you've got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this ...so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I'll just keep working on it one day at a time

Hi Guy, this good blogs, thanks
