The Incident, Parts 1 & 2

Welcome to the season finale edition of The "Lost" Diary.

In the locker room before the Super Bowl, they always show the coaches giving some kind of pre-game speech to rally the troops. Really? You need a speech to get you excited about playing in the Super Bowl. Well I wasn't too into this, but now that my coach said that, let's win this thing! Come on, it's the Super Bowl!!! If you need a pep talk before the Super Bowl, you shouldn't be playing football.

I think you know where I'm going here. It's the season finale of "Lost." 'Nuff said.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. I am watching tonight's episode live, with (gasp!) commercials, from my mom's apartment in Queens, as I just happen to be back in NY this week visiting friends and family. Let's roll ...

9:00 -- For all that's been going on, that was a really short "Previously on 'Lost.'"

Follow the Leader

Welcome back to another edition of The "Lost" Diary.

It actually stunned me on Wednesday when I learned two things -- 1) Next week is the season finale of "Lost" and 2) Wednesday was the series of finale of "Scrubs" (no matter what ABC decides).

Long time readers will remember I have a special affinity for "Scrubs." Simply put, I have never had as strong an emotional attachment to a show as I had to "Scrubs." It was not a comedy, and it was not a drama -- it was just a show and I think that is what drew me in. I felt like J.D. and Turk were my friends -- I wanted to buy my own stuffed dog, and I sometimes refer to people by girl's names. I have laughed as hard as I ever laughed during some episodes -- and cried like a baby during others.

I don't think I will ever encounter another show like it.

Who wants to watch "Lost"? Let's roll ...

The Variable

Welcome back to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

So tonight's episode is being billed as the 100th episode of "Lost." Do you think the producers really care? Do you think JJ and company went "It's our 100th. We better make it good!" I don't think they care in the slightest, but either way ABC has promoed the hell out of it and being that we just had a week off, I am excited as hell. Let's roll...

9:00 -- Picking up where we last left Desmond, he's being brought into the ER. Penny gets a visit from Mrs. Hawking.

9:01 -- Back on the island, Faraday has returned and he's intent on seeing Jack and finding out how Jack got back to the island.

Some Like It Hoth

Welcome back to another edition of The "Lost" Diary.

The last two weeks have been so phenomenal, I am almost approaching tonight's episode with nervous trepidation. Can "Lost" really knock three in a row out of the park?

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. I am actually writing this at 3:30 AM Thursday morning. I went to the Clippers game last night with my friend Aaron (congrats A-Dogg, you have finally made the Diary) and I didn't get home til almost 11:00 PM. So I decided to take a quick catnap before watching "Lost." Let's roll ...

9:00 -- I don't know if my brain can handle a Miles-centric episode of "Lost" right now. I am going to need to seriously focus.

9:01 -- "I told you! I can hear him!" -- Little Miles

Dead Is Dead

(Sorry I am late this morning. I am home sick with a wicked stomach bug. Good times.)

Welcome back to another edition of The "Lost" Diary.

I try not to look too closely at episode titles, but the last two weeks have been tough to ignore. "Whatever Happened, Happened" told me we were going to discuss the rules of time travel, as they apply to "Lost." "Dead Is Dead" strongly suggests to me we're going to bring Locke back into focus and, hopefully, explain exactly what sort of state he is in. I am also holding out hope we get a little face time with another "dead" person -- Christian. Crossing my fingers on that one.

Let's roll:

9:00 -- A very Ben-centric "Previously on 'Lost.'" Interesting.

9:01 -- "Jacob wanted it done" is how Richard explains to a young Russell Crowe why he took Little Ben to the Temple.

Whatever Happened, Happened

Welcome back to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

We've got a lot of different things going on right now (time travel, Little Ben got shot, etc.) but I need to focus on something that impacts the entire show -- Juliet vs. Kate. Now, Sawyer (and Jack before him) is faced with that very same conundrum right now and I have to say I like the way he's going. I am very pro-Juliet. I put it to a vote among my friends and Juliet won 7-4 (we're talking long term prospects here, not a one-nighter). Reasoning ranged from "Kate would drop me as soon as someone better came along" and "Kate gets kidnapped every five minutes." Makes sense to me.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. I am watching solo tonight as I only got home just in time to watch the West Coast feed after nearly two hours at the gym with Satan -- I mean my trainer Adam. He's like Ben, but with an ill-fitting tank top. Let's roll:

9:01 -- Jin awakens from his Sayid beating and, inexplicably, tells the Dharma people where Sayid is heading. Why'd he do that?

He's Our You

Welcome back (finally) to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

What a crazy week this has been for me personally. I am doing this Sunday night, the day after seeing Prince three times in one night. He started playing his first song at 8:00 PM and his last around 3:00 AM. I got recognized a few times from my encounter with Prince Thursday night. And, along the way, somehow became the most hated "Lost" blogger on the Internet. Good times.

I feel like this is the part where I apologize for not posting this in a timely fashion -- and that would be true; I am sorry I didn't get to do this sooner.

I am not going to get into reasons/excuses or anything like that. Whether it's my job or not (and it isn't, I get nothing extra from doing this -- except that it's a shitload of fun and you guys are the best), I do have an obligation to you all. It's an implied covenant -- you wake up Thursday morning, you get a "Lost" Diary. That's the deal.

Life gets in the way sometimes (I doubt anyone has watched every single episode of "Lost" on the night it aired) but I need to a better job of managing my time. What I have tried to juggle is whether or not it's better for me to watch the show when I am dead tired and rushing through it ... or wait a day or two and try do it right. I think I have learned the correct answer there.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. You know the rest. Let's roll:

9:02 -- I think this opening little story about a young Sayid killing chickens is supposed to tell me something. Once a killer, always a killer -- perhaps?

The "Lost" Diary -- Namaste

Welcome back to another edition of The "Lost" Diary.

I have a startling confession to make -- I didn't know "Lost" was a re-run last week until about 5:30 PM PT. I had absolutely no clue. I avoid promos and commercials all week long, so I never heard about it. But this extra week off has me super excited for tonight. It's kinda like being in a boring marriage and we skipped "date night" one week and now it's back on.

9:00 -- Instead of a PREVIOUSLY ON LOST, we get a little of Lapidus in the cockpit. I always like a scene where you see something you've already seen before, but this time from a slightly different perspective.

LaFleur

Welcome back to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

I really can't think of anything interesting to say going into this week except for this joke, courtesy of "30 Rock" -- The island, I want to go to there.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. Ari somehow ended up in Alabama this week, so I've decided to relax and fly solo tonight. Let's roll ...

9:02 -- Pardon me for a minute, while I lose my mind -- IT'S THE DAMN FOUR-TOED STATUE!!!!

The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham

I've written several times about how there are certain instances when I am more excited for "Lost" than others -- a season premiere, a season finale, the episode after a great episode, and the episode after a bad episode. I am officially adding a new one to the list -- when the title of the episode just sounds cool. You can't tell me when you looked at the channel guide and saw "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" you didn't go, "Oooooh, this is gonna be good."

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. Back at Ari's house tonight with Lauren and Marisa. Let's roll ...

316

Lately I've been getting a lot of comments that it doesn't seem like I am having any fun watching "Lost" anymore. While I certainly haven't liked this season as much so far, I like to think I still have fun watching. Nonetheless, I am approaching tonight's ep like a kid in a candy store -- BRING ME "LOST"!!!

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. Back at Ari's house tonight -- Lauren isn't here, but our friend Marisa is. Let's roll ...

9:00 -- Nothing warms my heart like seeing the single eye opening to an episode of "Lost." It's like a warm blanket and mom's homemade chocolate chip cookies ... mixed with the smoke monster and a time-traveling island.

This Place Is Death

Welcome back to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. As you all know, it's Thursday and I am watching "Lost" by myself -- the whole thing feels wrong. I am reuniting the band next week, I don't care what it takes.

9:00 -- I noticed earlier in the week, the synopsis for tonight's episode reads, "Locke tries to stop the island's shifts." Hmmm, why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah, cause thats what happened last week.

The Little Prince

Welcome back to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

Here's a thought I had the other day that proves I am not all there:

If you were contemplating suicide – I mean REALLY contemplating it – would you factor in that you would never find out what happened on "Lost" into your pros/cons list? I mean, if I were really on the edge and about to end it all, I'd have to try and hang on for another year or so til "Lost" ends.

Sometimes I have too much time on my hands.

Anyway, for all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. I've decided to quarantine myself tonight and watch "Lost" by myself – I didn't want to risk exposing Ari and Lauren to the Ebola/E. coli/E. leprosy disease I seem to have contracted. Let's roll:

9:00 -- If I am ever in a car crash or shot by a gunman or something, I hope I hear a voice that says "Previously on Daniel" before my life flashes before my eyes.

Jughead

Welcome back to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

Being a fan of "Lost" is a lot like being a fan of Prince.  Let me explain.

Both have hugely devout followings that speak languages all their own. Non-fans don't see why us fans still follow them. But we know better.

But here's my point -- within our community, criticism is often looked at as treason. I've spent my fair share of time on Prince-related message boards and let me tell you, dissenters are often met with hostility. I hate to break it to you, but Prince does make a bad song/album every now and again. It doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, just means it wasn't up to par.

Same goes with "Lost." As a "Lost" fan, I was supposed to LOVE the premiere, but I didn't. And, of course, a lot of commenters took me to task for it. HOW DARE I??? True criticism, the criticism that is truly worth paying attention to, comes from people who truly love something. Who else would you trust to tell you the truth than the people who care most about you?

I hope that made sense.

Anyway, for all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. The gang is back together -- I am chilling at Ari and Lauren's place (yes, they live together now) and it feels like old times again. Let's roll:

9:00
-- Efren Salonga!!! God bless closed captioning.

Because You Left/The Lie

Welcome (finally) to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

It's been a long time, hasn't it? Since we last spoke, two of the best shows ever -- "The Wire" and "The Shield" -- have ended their runs, leaving "Lost" as my undisputed favorite show still on TV. With two seasons left, I always get people asking me questions like, "What if it all turns out to be some girl's dream or something?" Simple -- I would end up in the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. "Checkmate, Mr. Eko."

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. I am watching tonight's episode of "Lost" solo -- Ari and I had a late basketball game, so I am watching East Coast feed (which isn't in HD), so I can get this done at a reasonable time (ed's note: How'd that turn out?). Anyway, let's roll:

9:00 -- It's 8:15 in the morning as the show starts. Of course it is. What other possible time could it be during the first few seconds of the new season of "Lost"?
